Great basic overview of the more well known hikes in Yellowstone. There was some I hadn't heard about and the author's honest rating system for trails was very helpful. I also enjoyed the recommendations for best hikes for photography (and other activities). I wouldn't depend on the directions in the book alone to find my way - you still need some very good maps and a GPS but this book points you in the right direction.

This book is a great one to help you plan out some neat hikes on future trip...more

Not only does it have honest advice on the quality of the trails, explicit directions to the trailheads, and detailed information on terrain, it shows a line map of the elevation gain of the trail! I love that! I HATE hikes that turn into death marches because suddenly there's a freakin' mountain to climb, and this book makes that impossible. Also, it told me about this really cool hike that is unmarked on any other map (not to mention road sign or trailhead) that I've seen...more
