In The Boy and The Lion, the reader follows Martin, an only child, whose biggest wish is to own a real black pony. ("Possibly on your birthday," his father promises.) So Martin contents himself with his favourite 'interesting thing', a mysterious tapestry picture of a lion guarding a beautiful princess.

On the night before his birthday, drifting to a sleep, Martin's thoughts wander into this picture as he grows curious to know why the beautiful princess seems so sad. Of a sudden, Martin discovers
