The second book in a series of romantic short stories, Checkout continues the positive work on Hardinge's first short (The Bus to Edam Yard). Romantic, witty, English charm (although what is up with the guy wearing 3/4 shorts, must be an English thing) an easy read perfect to kill 45 minutes or so.

The one negative about this book is that while I liked the MC, I had difficulty believing him. He was likable, nice, and handsome (in a vague way) but his inner dialogue did not fit in with my concept

C'mon, the world... start reading these fabulous stories by Carmel Hardinge! This second offering is significantly different from her first, but none the worse for that. Carmel has a gift for social analysis, which she brings to bear in interesting ways in this delightful and realistic tale. I'm not one of those reviewers who tells you the plot, so if that's what you're reading this for, forget it.

I enjoy the simple pleasures in life; making bread by hand, sitting by a roaring fire, being in the arms of my beloved. Even better is all these things and a good book in my hand. I hope you enjoy my stories, and thank you for sharing my world.
