A nice neat little thriller with supernatural overtones. Yumi Matthews is looking for answers, one of them so close to her that it drives her into danger. This authors first novel is a compelling read and one that I found myself thinking about well after I finished it. The only drawback to the story was that it left some things unanswered, but it did make me curious as to what direction the author will take further instalments. Definitely worth keeping an eye on this series if you enjoy ...more

I have been reading so many romance novels lately, that it was a nice change to pick up a mystery. This one also had a bit of a paranormal twist to it, which made it even more unique.

Yumi definitely has a backstory, which she gets into here and there. I felt like I wanted to know even more, in greater detail than she gives in the story. At first, I thought perhaps I had missed an earlier book, but this is the first book in the series. Perhaps a prequel to the series should come out later? I real

Author Amber Carlyle takes us on a journey with Yumi, a young lady determined to detect the details about her brothers disappearance some 10 years ago. What happens along the way has all the overtures you would expect down deep in the bayou. The story takes place in New Orleans, and the author does a great job of creating the picture, making the landscape real.

Supporting characters flesh out the details, including Ash and Josh. Whatever situation Yumi is in, both of these guys are protective of

I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Yumi Matthews has been haunted by the disappearance of her brother ten years ago. It's as if he dropped off of the face of the earth. While as she works as a private investigator reuniting families with their loved ones, she's been unable to uncover any clues leading to her missing brother...until now. While investigating a murder, she finds a recent and blurry photo of what she thinks is her brother. This new piece of evidenc

I love murder mystery/detective/police/thrillers etc. This author didn't disappoint me. PI Yumi is investigate a murder. She likes to dig in cold cases to help their families find peace. And to keep her mind of the disappearance of her own brother. Talking about him, while she was on her latest case, she found a clue about her brother, exciting she digs in more again. Soon she feels she is losing contact with reality or is she not?

Good, well written mystery, lots of plots and turns, mystery and

Wow - I am always a sucker for a good detective type story - and Amber C Carlyle did NOT disappoint me. Having never read anything by Ms Carlyle, I can honestly say that I hope to continue to read her books!!!

I wasn't really sure what to expect when I started this book - but I did love the way that Amber C Carlyle developed the story. Yumi seems to be all caught up in the mystery of trying to figure out what happened to her brother when he disappeared 10 years ago. With the fact that it takes pl

Really loved the New Orleans setting, the dialogue, and a few of the characters, but that's about it. The plot felt disjointed, which would have been fine if all of it had fallen seamlessly together at the climax. Unfortunately, it did not accomplish that *and* the disjointed pieces dragged most of the time. There is potential in this story and these characters, so maybe the second book in the series is better. I don't know if I'll stick around to find out though.

There's not enough start to on the scale for this book! WOW!!! Talk about a read that keeps you up all night, keeps you guessing and then throws twist and turns at you once you think you have it figured out. This is a page turner to say the least. Well written and remarkable characters. I would say this author knew exactly how to capture the reading audience when writing this book!

Who is Amber C. Carlyle?

Well, to be honest, I'm pretty much your average geek. I love roleplaying games, video games, comic books, board games, movies, and I fangirl over some of them. I have friends who will no longer play Star Wars trivia with me, even though I have not won every game we've played. (They just got mad that I got the Bothan question after quoting Mon Mothma for the entire game.)
