I would describe this book as incredibly inspiring, visually stimulating, creatively brilliant, but sometimes impractical.
Being an apartment dweller myself, in a relatively low-income family, some of Robin's tips were quite unuseable for me. The idea of using rugs on the walls appeals to me (after all, the great William Morris put rugs up on his walls as decoration too) but her method of attaching oriental rugs to the walls with wood braces attached into the studs just plain won't w...more

A genuine California/Texas raised hippie, Robin Brown hits the big time in decorating. Her personal style is a delightful mix of Queen Victoria, Janis Joplin and Alice in Wonderland (their description). Artist parents who made their own unique beauty and passed from this world too soon, Robin created a "purse" to honor the memory of her mother. Lo and behold this purse started an empire. Great destiny, follow your bliss, kind of inspiration. I read the book through then tore out hal...more
I read through this quickly. I was more interested in looking at the pictures of how she decorated and the parts of the book that explained how to do certain projects. I'm always looking for new decorating ideas. My house still needs updating, and I was just trying to get some ideas. Her style doesn't really speak to me, but it was certainly interesting and different.
Fun to browse and become inspired by, though money is apparently no object for Robin Brown and her husband. This sort of design scheme is best suited for those of us with ample enough space to store everything they need in order to pull off this sort of look!

Let me tell you, a little bit of this lady goes a long, loooong way. Seriously, a piece or two in her style might liven up a room, add interest. After that you have Miss Havisham's abode circa 1980s Victorian craze. ICK!
If I was as cool as Robin, I would be living in a home like hers and wearing her unique wardrobe. She inspires me to bring a little bit more of my boho self back into my life!
Beautiful and lush decorating style. I like Brown's philosophy of no hard and fast rules for decorating except to follow your own idea of beautiful.
Gorgeous! I love Robin Brown and her Magnolia Pearl style and this book is a wonderful explanation of how she views her creative proces and style.
