I gave “Alibi in High Heels” three stars for one reason: Jack Ramirez. I can't stand that character and his relationship with the main character, Maddie. For four books now, my dislike for his character has grown to the point where he is the only reason why I didn't give the book five stars. I LOATHE him. He is such a jerk to Maddie... he has treated her like an incompetent child from the first book and not only has he not changed, he’s gotten worse as the series goes along. And Maddie is STILL...more
Another great book from Ms. Halliday. I would normally never rate a chick-lit wibook 5 stars, but I did because as far as chick-lit books go this was a favorite. I am finding that I adore any book in which American girls travel abroad. I'm not sure if it's because I want to do it myself so badly or if it's just the escapism to a foreign place, but I just devour these books. Between Anna and the French Kiss and this I was in Paris heaven lately. Maddy is up to her usual antics so lovers of the se...more
Alibi in High Heels- 1/13/13 - D- or 2 stars - They just get worse and worse, don't they? This book proves that Halliday still doesn't have a fact checker, proofreader, or continuity editor. Maddie is still an idiot. If someone runs over your daughter and breaks her leg because she's an idiot and driving a stick shift when she doesn't know how to drive one, wouldn't you be pissed at her, even if she's your best friend? Why do Maddie's mom and friend go to Paris with her? So she'll have someone t...more
Maddie Springer is in a whole heap of international trouble in this hilarious 4th installment by Gemma Halliday. As we open the book, Maddie gets hits by a car, breaking her leg! To make matters worse, shes off to Paris to show her shoe line at Fashion Week! Strutting around Europe in a cast and crutches is not and easy task when your trying to solve a murder of a model who was stabbed in the neck with a stilletto heel. (designed by the one and only Maddie) Now deemed the "Couture Killer" Maddie...more
I'm still not entirely positive how I let myself get suckered into this mysteries series --- given that I'm not a fan of the genre. So, keep that in mind as I do these reviews. I am NOT an expert on the mystery genre, nor is it my preference. However, I bought the first five books for my Kindle all at once, so I'm at least going to finish this endeavor. And, honestly, it's really not as painful as I first expected.

Honestly, I enjoy these books as something to pass the time, but they're not the best books I've read, even by a long shot. The fourth book in this series finds Maddie stuck in Paris, on crutches (meaning, she's in flats - the horror!), helping a popular young designer with the shoes for his show during Paris' Fashion Week. However, one morning before the show, she and the designer, Jean-Luc, find the star model of the show, murdered. She wasn't just murdered though - she was killed with a stile...more
Well, this book makes it official. I am on "Team Felix". I'm actually imagining future books with Maddie and Felix as a crime-solving couple! Trouble is, I don't think this is what the author intended.
The good--this is Halliday's best mystery plot yet. I didn't guess the murderer at all. That's a first for me and this series. She writes the comedy well, although at times she sacrifices realism for a funny bit. She's developed her supporting characters (Mom, Mrs. R, Dana, Marco, etc) very well. I...more

This is the fourth book in the High Heel series. You will want to read the first three books Spying in High Heels, Killer in High Heels and Undercover in High Heels, before you pick this book up as with each book there is the development of the main characters, the relationships and the "world" that they live in, which is one of high fashion and murder.

I finished this one a couple of weeks ago, and then read the next one, so it's not exactly fresh in my mind. We find out something I wasn't expecting about Felix, which was awesome and random. I thought we were going to get Maddie and Felix running around Paris, but then Ramirez showed up(bummer). I continue to be perplexed as to why Maddie is with Ramirez. Forgive me if I repeat myself, but, I was indifferent to Ramirez, and fine with him being Maddie's boyfriend(who we don't really 'see' alot...more
Maddie and gang head off to Paris to showcase Maddie's shoe designs for Fashion Week. Among, of course, some craziness and general mishaps.
Big drama, lots of traveling, a murder being pinned on Maddie, and revealed secrets about Felix make the story interesting.

Damn you, Gemma! Just when I swear off buying the next book because of the HORRENDOUS editing, misspellings, typos and grammatical errors, you go and throw a twist like that ending! For the record, I may buy all your books in hard copy just so I can mark them all to hell with a red pen and send them to you. In the meantime, keep writing these entertaining stories. As much as I complain about the editing, it's clearly not bothering me enough to stop buying your books. Parting thought, these "stil...more
Just a note -- there is a spoiler in this review.
Finished this last evening (12/29). If you've followed my reviews of this series, you'll notice I've downgraded my rating on this one. It's not because it isn't well plotted; it's not because it isn't filled with lots of action, crazy people doing crazy things, mayhem and murder -- it has all those things. It's just getting too predictable: Maddie gets into trouble -- often of her own making; Maddie involves her best friend, Dana, her Mom and Mrs....more

Maddie's made it to the big time! Her shoe line took off and she's been requested at Fashion Week in PARIS! She's all set to go when she has an unfortunate incident with a sports car driven by a psychic who can't operate a clutch... (any guesses?) She won't let a little thing like "Wonder Boot" and the doctor's orders of no heels for 3 months get in the way of her dream though, so off she goes!
Things are off to a great start, until she finds a dead body, that is. Aside from the person being dead...more

Shoe obsessed Maddie, the hot mess of Los Angeles, takes on Paris in the fourth book of Gemma Halliday’s High Heels Mysteries. As always, the author’s witty style sucked me in and did not let me go until I finished.
In her Fashion Week debut, Maddie finds herself embroiled in yet another mystery, can you believe it??? (Really wouldn’t be much of a mystery series if she didn’t). This time, she is suspect number one! Thus, the unruly, bumbling, Scooby gang of LA is unleashed on Paris.

omg, this series is getting real old. THey are quick reads and I can easily fall asleep after a chapter (I read when my baby wakes me up for a night feeding and hope that I can easily fall asleep). There's not too heavy of content, so I don't toss and turn when I close the book and try to sleep. It also is not a pageturner, so I can easily read one chapter and go to sleep.

#4 in the series. Maddie is set to show her shoes in Paris for Fashion Week! All her dreams are coming true, what could go wrong? A dead body with Maddie as the chief suspect! Another cute story in the series. Her boyfriend Ramirez is turning into a bit of a pig. I wonder where the author is going with him? He is a bit too controlling. Well, we'll see what happens next! An easy fluffy read for the Janet Evanovich/Stephanie Plum lovers, as the formula is virtually identical.
Maddie must have the worst luck in the world lol Finally getting to show her shoes in Fashion Week in Paris no less, and breaking her leg at the last minute. Her mom was funny tagging along, and her friend Mrs. R. They were hilarious. I didn't like the way things were going with Maddie and Ramirez, and i was really scared there for a while. She managed to be the prime suspect in a murder, and yet still be funny and so maddie.

The implied love triangle with Maddie, Jack, and Felix was the best part of this book. The jump from "friend" to marriage proposal frustrated me to no end. I felt cheated out of character and relationship development causing me to not care so much about the characters. Bought the 1-5 series set so I'll read the next book but otherwise this would have been the end of the series for me. A little too campy.
Poor Maddie - she's a shoe designer who just keeps ending up getting involved in murder investigations! The first two books in this mystery/romance series chronicled the chemistry between Maddie and Ramirez and were very much will they/won't they. The third book introduced a new person into the mixture, and this book continues down that intriguing path - now it's will she/won't she with Felix or Ramirez?
Bah - not for early teens! Ho-hum - not much for substance or mystery but moderately enjoyable if you don't want to think too hard. The series books are all pretty much the same. I read the series because I told my 13 yr old that I would and let her know if she should read them. (The answer is "No." Although, the last book is actually more acceptable than the first ones.
Very similar to the other books. The same basic story.
The parts in Italy, France and England are very stereotypical. Example England has dreadful food, the French are all very attractive and the traffic in Milan is dreadful.
However better than the last book, well worth a read and I even had a tear in my eye on the last page!

I read the first book in this series on a whim and loved Maddie from the beginning. However, I was furious with her in this book, I could not believe some of her ridiculous choices, her attitude and her her lack of concern for others (Jack, her Mother, Mrs. R.). I'm really relieved it ended on a happy note.
Loved this one too :) I just love her writing, I could see an "old" (Clueless era, man that makes me sound old, lol!) Alicia Silverstone playing Maddie in a movie. And, once again, I was surprised at who the real murderer was until the very end! I thought I had it figured out, but I was wrong, lol! Funny, "girlie", mystery all rolled into one.
This book was actually probably my least favorite in the series, however I still enjoyed the fluff. This time the cast of characters go to Paris, and wackiness ensues abroad. The on-and-off with Felix got on my nerves. I realize that basically the entire series is pretty unrealistic, but this one really got to me. No way would any of this happen, it wouldn't even happen on an episode of Law and Order: SVU. Still enjoyable fluff, a quick read, and I gave it 4 stars.
Read during hurricane.
Def. my favorite so far, even though I figured out the killer in the second chapter. Series is becoming slightly predictable.
For once, Maddie is trying to mind her own business and start her own career by designing shoes for fashion week. Arriving at work, she find finds a model dead; by one of her high heel shoes! Automatically, Maddie is suspected and goes on a rampage to prove her innocents and get her shoes back in time for fashion week. She pulls some very stupid stun...more

Maddie Springer has always wanted to be a famous shoe designer. When she is invited to
Fashion Week in Paris, France by Fashion Designer Jean Luc Le Croix even a broken leg will not keep her from attending. Of course wherever Maddie goes something "interesting"is bound to happen.
This book is a good choice for a summer read. Easy, fun, and a quick read.

Gemma had a hard time figuring out what she wanted to be when she grew up. She worked as a film and television actress, a teddy bear importer, a department store administrator, a preschool teacher, a temporary tattoo artist, and a 900 number psychic, before finally selling her first book, Spying in High Heels, in 2005 and deciding to be a writer.
