Great book for all the basics. Especially with the addition of hilarious cartoons modeling ski moves and how to winter camp. Great book for someone who has been in the backcountry but has no real expertise. I can't wait to pull a sled to my snow cave after a long day of skiing. Also great basic ski touring tips and gear suggestions. The chapters are easy to follow and a fun read, even if the material is very "how-to" which is...more

4 stars doesn't mean this is great literature (usually 4 stars is a high bar). In this case, it's a great manual for backcountry skiing. Tons of totally useful tips I wouldn't have thought of otherwise, and great illistrated how-tos for snow camping. Built my first quinzee (snowcave) from its instructions...
Highly recommend for any fairly-new backcountry skiiers.
