Since this manga series was only four volumes long, I decided to read them all at once and review them at the same time. I first heard about Kingdom Hearts from the popular game and loved the idea of anime coming together with my beloved Disney characters. When I realized that there was a manga as well, I've been wanting to read it for the longest time ever. With the Manga Challenge, it gave me my excuse to get into it.
The storylines are great. It brings readers on this wonderful adventure throu...more

After hearing about how good the Kingdom Hearts video game series was and finding out that the games were only on PS2/PS3 consols or one of the pther consols you hook up to the TV (none of which I own, sadly), I really wanted to find out more about this, so I picked up the manga.

The storyline is original and refreshing, something I could easily enjoy without focusing too much but had a gripping plotline and packed action in just the right places so I wouldn't go snoozing off.

The art is really g...more

Being an administrator at the KHInsider forums means I know a lot about the video game series, and being a book worm I want to read as much as possible. I'd seen the mangas in the library before but they were always out of order so I never picked them up. Finding a trusty site online, I can now peruse the mangas at my pleasure in neat order. So off I start with Kingdom Hearts Volume 1.

I like this quite a bit. Despite having grown out of the series I was surprised to find that the manga is very e...more

I want to read this, because the Kingdom Hearts series is probably my favorite collection of games, next to Assassins's Creed and the pre-Legend Tomb Raiders.

But should I bother? Is the art nice enough? Does it follow the proper story? Dunno. I should probably just give it a try while I wait for my new PS2 to arrive, shipped from the magical land of Amazon, along with all the games in the series that I'm dying to replay since my three-year Nomura hiatus.

And this is why, when you emigrate, you...more

When I saw that Kingdom Hearts was going to have a manga, I got all excited. I was hoping for a more extensive storyline or even just little story-bits that didn't make it into the actual game. I was sorely disappointed. There isn't anything new or interesting though the entire thing. The art wasn't cute but didn't stand up to the beautiful scenes in the game. It wasn't bad, just not my taste. [return][return]I suppose someone who didn't get to play the game but wanted to get into the lovely fan...more

I did play the game and I red this because I wanted to support the Kingdom Hearts Franchise in any way possible.(Yeah! Ima die hard fan like that!) What I have to say is if you played the game you might be surprised, there's some added things and detail that make the story interesting and this is especially for those who have played Kingdom Hearts already. For those who have not played the game, the story might not be as interesting or maybe a little vague as to what originally what happens as w...more

Reviewing all four volumes at once, so beware of spoilers.

I didn't like the manga as much as the game. I usually like the book/manga better than the movie/anime, but this is one of those exceptions. For one thing, they cut out several worlds and some of the scenes that I enjoyed in the game. For another, I don't remember there being much if any cursing (especially from Donald Duck) in the game. I'm surprised that Disney allowed one of their signature characters to be portrayed this way (even tho...more

Kingdom Hearts is a truly phenomenal gaming series for the PS2 platfrom. The 4-issue manga retells the story of the first game, accompanied with Siro Amano's simple style. If the game moved you to tears, then the manga will bring back all these emotions...The power of friendship,Sora's determination and the resteless battle between good and evil are the main elements of the game, which made millions of fans from all over the world to fall in love with it...It is touching and beautiful...:)

I have read one of his best book and first as well kingdom hearts. This book is about three friends that are on a island. They know there’s something more than that island but the cant get out. Riku one of the main character turn evil and tries to get sora the other main character. Riku disappears and sora too. Sora lands in a town called Traverse town there he finds new friends like Donald duck a goofy. There they find the keyblade. The keyblade chooses sora to find Mickey mouse.

I found this Manga to be very interesting. This is a Manga, written by Shiro Amano, that is based around the life of a boy named Sora. He, and his friends, had grown a desire to set sail from their island and travel to other worlds. After a strange meeting with an organization member(a group of individuals with the desire to kill the Keyblade Master) and a night of darkness Sora was chosen as the Keyblade Master. He was destined to leave the island and restore the worlds that had been blinking...more

Proof that usually it's nearly impossible to translate a RPG video game (where you just basically wander around, picking up special items and fighting bad guys) into graphic novel form.

I never played Kingdom Hearts so knew nothing about the back story or anything, so I was really hoping that the manga series could catch me up to speed on that universe. But although it wasn't difficult to understand, the plot was simply all over the place...more

What better way to remember an amazing game, than read an amazing manga about it! This book (Vol. 1) starts the saga of the Kingdom Heart series and continues to the climax and eventual conclusion in Volume 4. Following the game in most text though not as detail or with as many return trips. Disney fans and RPG fans met great synergist union! The artwork is excellent. Definite read!

This book is very simplistic, and the plot sorta meanders on pointlessly. The characters aren't at all developed. I'd probably enjoy this more if i played the game. If you haven't skip this book. I'll probably finish the other three books, just cause I have them, I bought them, as I buy most of my books, used and dirt cheap.

Kingdom Hearts Volume 1, the manga adaption of the best-selling videogame, follows Sora as his world is devoured by the darkness and he inherits the great power of the Keyblade. He journeys to other worlds with his allies to seal the open Keyholes and search for his missing friends.

I don't know about this one. I mean, I love the videogame, I play it all the time, so I already know everything about what's going on. But if I were someone who hadn't played it, I think it'd be harder to understand w...more

I love anything that has Kingdom Hearts in it... except maybe all the games except the first one... but still! This Manga does a good job in portraying the events from the first game, but it still lacks the adventurous feel only the game could give. In this sense, the video game is better than the book.
Nikki
This is cute, but it doesn't add anything to the game, and it feels so scanty. Obviously you don't get to explore the worlds or figure things out yourself in the same way as you do in the game, so especially if you've played the game, it comes up lacking.

But it is cute.

I think Kingdom Hearts is a very good book, even if its a video game. To me, its a very funny, adventurous, and couragous manga book. I like this book because for one thing, it has mmy fav disney characters, second, it teaches you a few lessons, and its very entertaining. The door to the Kingdom Hearts is sealed, dealing with a blow to the heartless and restoring the worlds to normal, but Riku and King Mickey were trapped inside! Now, Sora, Donald, Goofy, and Jiminy Criket's search for their fr...more

I'm a huge fan of the games and I've played the first one way too many times. Despite that I missed it today and immediately found this, and I must say I love it just as much as the game. Sure it's about the same thing, but I find it to be just as interesting.
Aubrey Hansen
Half (or more) of this didn't make sense. But then again, I've heard the games, no matter how many times you play them, don't exactly make sense either...

Ah well, can't resist Disney characters mashed with manga, however bizarre the result may be.

This is NOT for people who don't like visual irony and stupid jokes. There are a lot of things that made me laugh until I couldn't breathe, but those who are so serious they can't take a joke shouldn't read this.
Cindy
I love Disney and Kingdom Hearts is a cute game, so the book was great. It's a little hard to understand the beginning if you haven't played the game, and some of the creatures are hard to get but it works out.
Momiji
This book maybe a bit dif then how you played the game but it kinda explains more of the story than the game and you'll luv the art work if you love the Kingdom Hearts game you'll luv this manga book by Shiro Amano
Emily
I picked this up on a whim because I've always been a bit curious about the game. I wasn't too impressed, though. Mostly because I'm not too into manga. Also, I imagine it's probably more fun to play theactual game.
Ryu
If you liked playing the games, this series follows it exactly. Very cute. Fun to see them in cute drawings and in action on page instead of spending all my time killing the Heartlesses for hours before moving on to the next part of the story.

i love kingdom hearts it is the best video game and the best storyline i've ever heard of. sora is immaculate. i love him and i sorta like kairi and i love riku. go and live forever kingdom hearts
Jennifer
I expected to really love this series as a friend of mine recommended it to me. It was ok. I'll probably check out the next book in the series but I'm not in a huge rush to do so. It's got a neat concept. It just didn't capture my interest enough.
Ronnie Rogers
I thought it would be such a fan book but, it sorta proved me wrong it portrayed the story quite well, or at least for me it did, not to mention the artwork was phenominal
Karen
These are based off the video game and are a lot of fun. Since I played the game, they made sense to me, but I am not sure if they would if you have never played the games before.
