As a Southerner, I'm sometimes wary of books written about events in Southern history or those with Southerners as main characters, especially if the author isn't a native of the South. That was a non-issue with this novel because even though the author was not born here, she has the heart and soul of a native Southerner. I honestly don't read many historical fiction books, just because I am not that bit of a history buff. But this one I really did like. Bit of romance wonderfully mixed in with the historical facts. And if you are a history buff, you get to meet all the heroes of the Civil War, but if you are not that into history, you can let yourself get wrapped into the plot. Wonderful story in which I learned some things about the Civil War that I had not known before, and it leaves you thinking in the end. ...more
