I read this because I am teaching Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity this fall in a reading skills class, and I wanted more background. The writing is a little dry towards the end, but the book is packed with information and careful analysis. In particular, it also looks at why woman are attracted to ultra-conservative ideas.
