"A Simplified Overview" as the subtitle is a bit misleading. Perhaps the authors, a father and son team, didn't want to scare people off. Great illustrations, clear understandable exposition with plenty of detail. Helpful to have a little background--some idea about plate tectonics, geologic eras, etc. However, if you don't you will by the time you finish the book. Even just dipping into it while visiting Kauai will make you smarter, or at least better informed.

A must read for anyone visiting K
