As I closed the last page just the other day I let out a long hard sigh. Something about Eye of the Oracle really gets me thinking. The amazing power of God, and how he can take such small events, and what seems like such insignificant people and things, and turn it all out for his good, is awe inspiring. And that is what Eye of the Oracle did to me. And there is one part in the book that I especially enjoyed, when God opens Sapphira Adi's (one of the main characters) heart and shows her his mer...more

Bryan Davis is one of the most controversial Christian fantasy authors in our age. In 7th grade, we had the privileged to meet this outstanding author when he made a visit to our school, Spring Valley.
In his book Eye of the Oracle (the prequel to his bestselling series “Dragons in our midst) Davis takes us back in time way before the tower of Babel. In eye of the oracle we discover history of the modern day dragons of the series dragons in our midst. Davis explains how the dragons survived th...more

"Eye of the Oracle" is the longest read yet of all the Bryan Davis books I have read. It is worth the read though it explains any questions about the story behind the entire "Dragons In our Mist series". It was basically a prequel. It explained how most of the characters came to where they were and why also. It even explains the series from right before Noah's Ark. It even explains how the dragons interacted well with some humans during King Arthur's reign. It gives the story line a new perspect...more
Part of me sees it only as fitting that I should write a review years after I read this book (and please, bear with me on that). That's when you know what really sticks with you. And what brought the emotionally confused freshman I remember myself being to tears was this book, after the first part, to be precise, but that's as precise as I'll get it

Any book with a spine this thick has aready lured me in—and Eye of the Oracle kept me hooked! It was absolutely gripping, as is usual for Bryan Davis, and provided a ton of backstory and history on the DIOM books. A must-read for any fans of the previous series, to which this is a prequel of sorts. The story was beautiful and utterly gripping. It had a much darker tone than the previous books, because it delved so far back into Scriptural history, but I think that actually helped me engage with...more
Eye of the Oracle is the stunning prequel to the Dragons in Our Midst series by the talented author Bryan Davis. This book takes you through 609 pages of intense battles and the inner turmoil of those striving for faith. It begins in the days of old, incorporating dragons into the Biblical accounts of Noah’s flood and the Tower of Babble. Whereas glimpses of the old and cherished characters are displayed in a few given chapters, new and delightful characters expertly open the doors for the Oracl...more
This is Book 1 in the Oracles of Fire series. It is a prequel to the Dragons in our Midst Series. Questions that you had about DIOM, and how the story started. It is answered in Eye of the Oracle. Packed full of action, touching moments, and spiritual truths, Eye of the Oracle kept me up at night, reading under the covers. I found myself unable to put it down! Although it is the prequel to the best-selling Dragons In Our Midst series, it is able to stand on its own. From Noah, to the Round Table, to the present day, Eye of the Oracle takes readers on a journey through time. Discover the history of the dragons, the origin of the evil slayers who pursue them, and the truth behind the Oracle...more

OK, first off let me say, I am not a big reader of fiction. My mind seems more geared to engaging and loving deep theological works that challenge my thinking and my positions. Sure, I have read and loved things like Lord of the Rings and the Narnia series in the past, but it is just that fiction is something I rarely spend time with.
My wife read the first two related series of books by Davis, and suggested I give my mind a rest with some lighter reading occasionally, so I did. It was a struggl...more

Bryan Davis handles the plot exceptionally well in this novel. It’s a little more history then the average plot. This is, of course hard to not do when the timeline spans some five thousand years.
Even with the ‘history’ factor of the novel, the author still manages to draw you in and keep you there until the end. While Mr. Davis may have done very well at keeping the reader, he also established many sub-plots. The main plot itself was almost the collection of sub-plots and I think it depends on...more

Upon finishing this massive volume, I have to say that it was worth the journey. Eye of the Oracle is an epic that spans thousands of years, following immortal characters from just before the great flood and Noah's Ark to the time of Merlin and King Arthur, through the early to mid 1900s, and up to current day. The storylines unfold at an excellent pace.

First things first, DO NOT READ THIS BEFORE THE "DRAGONS IN OUR MIDST" SERIES!!! I made that mistake and as a result, I had no idea what was going on at the end of this book, and had a major spoiler for the end of "Tears of a Dragon"...anyway...It was, however, a great read. The way Bryan Davis blends his story with the Bible is very good, and the characters are well developed and interesting.
When I first read this book, I was expecting it to be a lot like the Dragons in our Midst series. However, it didn't take me long to realize that Eye of the Oracle goes deeper then DioM ever did. In this amazing prequel Bryan Davis weaves a story of adventure, triumph, sorrow, romance, evil villains, and memorable characters. This is one truly fantastic book, and I would recommend to anyone!
I think this prequel to the Dragons in our Midst series was meant to be read after reading Dragons in our Midst. There were parts, especially at the end, where it just skimmed over rather large events. I am assuming they were covered in more detail in the series. Good book, kept me entertained, but now I want to read the rest of the books to figure out the whole story.
This book was fantastic it has blended all the boundaries that I once knew between Religious fiction and Fantasy. It was masterful, I can't wait to read the next in the series!!!! The characters had such depth and appreciation for life, their thoughts and ideals were perfect for this book. The plot was ingenious, I absolutely loved the originality by the author.
This book was, for lack of a better word, amazing. It filled me in on a lot of the information that I had missed out on, and I recognized many scenes from flashbacks in the other books.
Eye of the Oracle is called by some a "prequel" to the Dragons in Our Midst series. This is partially true, because many of its events take place before Raising Dragons, but I believe that it is very good in sequence right where it is. I read Dragons in Our Midst and the last three books in Oracles of Fire before...more

I liked the series to which this is a prequel, but this book frustrated me quite a bit. There were just so many plot threads that were led ways I didn't think made sense that the book was kinda ruined for me. This is just a person peeve of mine though and you may still love the book, so don't let this scare you off:-)

i read this book, which is 607 pages long in five days (which is insanely fast for me, being a pretty slow reader). i loved it tremendousley! it and the rest of its series and the DIOM series are both fantastic! they tie in fantasy and the Bible sucessfully into one book. and had me captivated all summer. i had my Bible out continuously so half of the time when it is usually in my purse, the little Bible was in my lap, looking up a verse (if i didnt know it) stated in the book. i have definately...more
This book is entirely too long. There are so many characters and most of the characters change their names at least once in the book. It also skips through the centuries leaving you only to guess what was happening with them during that length of time. It is an interesting story-line, but it just leaves me too aggravated to want to deal with the rest of the series.
for anyone who has read the Dragons in our Midst series this book is a must read. Be warned that it is a little slower that the other book and a little harder to get into but if you intend to read the Oracals of Fire series you will need this vital information. it might be a bit tempting to skip over parts of it and to get through it quickly but this book definatly needs to be taken as a whole.

This book felt like reading deleted scenes from the previous series. It certainly fills in a few details and adds characters where we had no idea they were there in the first series. This was woven in pretty well.
I don't know how I feel about the interpretation of the events in early Bible history. And I'm not too keen with the portrayal of God in this book. He's certainly given the role of omnicient and as a loving provider...sometimes. But he is also shown as extremely aloof and hands off, let...more
