I really enjoyed this book. The story line and the characters had me pulled in from the first pages. It is wonderfully written historical romance that captures the essence of the early 1900's. I enjoyed following Anna on her journey to finding the independence she wanted so badly in a day when young woman weren't supposed to be independent and her finding that one person God had intended for her life. This is the first book I have read by this author but it won't be my last. I received a ...more

Excellent read. Anna is running from her Dad's choice for her husband. Can she fulfill her dream of being a successful artist? Who is this stranger that poses for her on the beach? Why is he so depressed? Can Anna help this man, Charles, without her heart becoming involved? After all she can't let her heart be involved and be a successful artist too, or can she? Three men are vying for her attention. Will she fall in love and with which one? Not only is there romance, forgiveness, and faith, but ...more

I was fortunate to be given a copy of Watercolor Dreams by Sherry Kyle to review, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anna, an artist is in Carmel for six months, to prove to her father that she can make a living from painting. It's 1910 and her father wants Anna to marry Henry, his business partner.
Charles, jilted at the altar, walks into Anna's painting - a dark, brooding presence. It is the first time their paths cross but it won't be the last.
Charles and Anna have a natural attraction to each other,

It's hard to beat Carmel-by-the-Sea as a setting for a a story about a budding artist. I will admit that I was more interested in her career than her love life. I found Charles a bit of a bore, but I loved Anna's confidence in her talent and gumption in getting herself a showing. The author painted some lovely moments of Anna at her easel. I especially enjoyed the scene where set up shop in front of a beach house and sketched wildflowers until the fog rolled in.

A character that captured my imagi

Very good, light and enjoyable read. I am thankful to have been given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

At first the attachment of the two main characters seemed unexpectedly quick. However, not long into it at all, during the disastrous diner scene, :) I found the flow to be perfect.

The characters were well developed, and I enjoyed meeting them. My favorite may have been Aunt Clara. I think she's the type of woman that I would like to become. The children were wonderful and

Very good book. Easy to read and light reading. I normally don't like short chapters but I soon grew accustomed to them. The story line was good and was easy to follow. Anna has left home to follow her dream of becoming a water color artist and to escape a prearranged marriage that her Father has arranged for her with his business associate. As she meets a stranger and paints him into her picture, things begin to change in her life. In the end she finds true happiness and live. The stranger finds ...more

Absolutely wonderful! Loved the main characters. The children, well that was an adventure in itself. Heartwarming, suspense, mystery, exciting, as well as sweet, and even though faith was in it, it was just right amount, done tactfully, not pushy and preachy.
The ending wasn't just about her, but all involved there was conclusion for them also.
P.S.

When I first started reading Watercolor Dreams, I thought it was going to be a typical romance plot. However, there is much more to this story. The characters are well-written, and the plot takes some unexpected turns. Although it takes a few chapters to get hooked, I recommend it to those who enjoy historical fiction!

I look forward to reading more books by Sherry Kyle. I was sent the book to provide an unbiased review. I am glad I was able to read it and review it. It led me to another author I enjoy reading.

A delightful book that had me hooked from the beginning. Who couldn't love Johnny and Thomas a couple of precocious boys needing the love and discipline of parents but instead are being raised by nursemaids. This book is written well and the characters seemed real. I felt like I was right there. A wonderful bonus was the spiritual thread throughout the book.

A Review: Watercolor Dreams by Sherry Kyle

It’s 1910 and Anna Lewis wants to become a premier watercolor artist of the lush beaches of Carmel, California. When a man strides down the beach and stops to face the ocean, Anna sketches him into her painting. Was it a mistake? Anna thinks so when he approaches and tells her he doesn’t have spare change for her work. Spare change indeed! She’d better keep her day job as nursemaid to two rambunctious boys. But what about her watercolor dreams?

This is the first book from,Sherry Kyle, that I have read, and I have to say, it was very well done! I was drawn into the story when I started reading the first page. Being an artist, I could "see" her paint her pictures and I just loved how she described them! I am wondering if she is a painter on the side :) This story has a strong theme behind it-having the faith to step out and pursue your dream. I admire that about the main character,Anna. She put so much passion into her dream and along ...more

If she doesn’t accomplish her dreams by then, she must go back home and marry her father’s business partner, a man she can’t stand.

It’s not always easy to write Inspirational romance with enough conflict to keep it interesting. After all, Christian characters should be able to lean on their faith in times of trouble, right? But Sherry Kyle has managed to inject a healthy dose of conflict into her new release, Watercolor Dreams, taking full advantage of struggles heroines only experienced in historical times.

Artist Anna Lewis doesn’t just face pressure to give up her art and settle down as a proper housewife. She must also

This was an enjoyable quick and easy read. It's a period piece, set in California in 1910, a time when women still didn't have the independence we can enjoy today--and that fact plays a big part in the story.

Anna has six months to prove to her father that she can make a living with her watercolors, or she will be forced to return to San Francisco to marry his business partner. Charles has just been left at the

If you don’t mind wading into the ocean up to your waist before you cast your line, then Watercolor Dreams is the book for you. Anna Lewis is trying to accomplish what women in her 1910 era don’t do—become independent entrepreneurs not necessarily in need of a husband. But from the start she muddles just about everything: her job as a nursemaid, her interactions with businessmen who don’t like her paintings, her father. Add jilted Charles Jordan to the scene and you have a lot of pages to figure ...more

I enjoyed this book! I loved reading about the time period that it was set in because I have not read a lot of books set in this time! It was interesting to me that it was a book that was talking about that it is ok to have your dreams and that you don't need to be married to achieve them! However, in this case she is torn between both pursuing her dreams and real love! When the book started, I thought it was a little slow but as I continued I could not put it down, I couldn't wait to find out ...more

I just finished this book and what a beautiful story it is. Anna has left San Francisco to escape her father's plan for her to marry his business partner. She wishes to pursue her dream of painting. The story opens with her painting a beach scene when a man walks into her field of vision and into her painting. She was captivated by his defeated posture. We soon find out that this man, Charles, has just been jilted at the altar. The path to love is not easy for this couple. This story includes ...more

What happens when an ineffectual nanny who dreams of pursuing a career as a watercolor artist meets a handsome stranger who’s just been jilted at the altar? Sparks fly, of course! There’s only one problem: both Anna Lewis and Charles Jordan have vowed to remain single. In this sweet historical romance – kind of a “California 1910” take on Pride & Prejudice, Anna and Charles must come to terms with others’ expectations of them, with their own misconceptions about each other, and with the ...more

Sherry writes easy-to-read relational stories that capture the reader's interest and heart. Watercolor Dreams follows the story of a young woman longing to fulfill her dream as an artist at a time when women weren't always able to do so. I loved the setting and time period, especially since I've lived nearby and visited the area frequently. Sherry does an excellent job of portraying both. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and didn't want to put it down. It was one of those that you wish didn't have ...more

A very good book. Easy to read, entertaining characters. Anna is a young woman who wants to be a watercolor artist and is seeking her independence. Her father has given her six months to prove herself as an artist or return home and marry his business associate. Enter Charles, Aunt Clara and two naughty little boys for a great cast of characters. I highly recommend this book. I received an ARC for my honest review.

Water Color Dreams is an easy historical read.

The heroine is working as a nanny while she tires to become an artist. Her only desire in life is paint watercolors and she does not want to marry the man her father has planned for her.
The hero is a writer and has baggage, but he is a likable man.
What follows is a story of two young adults finding their way.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher for the purpose of reviewing. This review is my honest opinion.

Carmel couldn't be more beautiful, so I was thrilled to see this as the setting of Sherry's story. She gave brief glimpses into the history of the area, but I would've appreciated even more.

Sweet romance with one conflict after another keeping my interest until the last page. Well done, Sherry

Watercolor Dreams is a sweet story about a young lady, Anna, trying to find herself and her purpose in life, who happens to find love along the way. She hits a few bumps in the road, so to speak, but in the end, as all good romances should, she finds her happily ever after. I highly recommend this novel.
