Работа Моруа, посвященная жизни и творчеству нашего классика, - это, прежде всего, взгляд на русских и русскую культуру XIX века со стороны, взгляд из Европы на малопонятную, загадочную Россию как на некое таинственное явление природы. Важно не только то, что Тургенев явился в свое время откровением для Запада, но и то, что он "ввел" в европейскую культуру и Пушкина, и Гоголя, и Толстого.
