Disney at Dawn (Kingdom Keepers #2)
It's supposed to be a happy day at the Magic Kingdom-the return of the teenaged holographic hosts. But things go very wrong when a sudden lightning storm disrupts the celebration, and Amanda's mysterious sister, Jez, disappears. Pearson has done it again, for the 2nd time in this series. (this is the 2nd book) He has written another disaster. I was disappointed in how un-magical the first Kingdom Keepers was. This is one is actually worse. I am sorry to say, but this book is not for die-hard Disney fans. After reading the first one, I was hoping the second book would be so much better. I am disappointed to report that it was not.

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I find that the book Kingdom Keepers II: Disney at Dawn is an excellent book. The novel is intended for young adults and is written by the talented author, Ridley Pearson. This book is filled with excitement as you once again follow Finn, Maybeck, Willa, Charlene, and Philby (aka the Kingdom Keepers) into the world of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. As you read this book, the main issue that keeps appearing is the struggle between good and evil.

Second in the Kingdom Keepers fantasy adventures series for children.
My Take
Maleficent plans to take over Disney World. Again.
I enjoyed the adventure and Pearson does provide an interesting series of action adventures for the kids as they work out the clues and reconfigure the computer feeds and follow the network path. That alone makes it a worthwhile read. I'm just irritated with the rather "dumbed-down" level of writing. There's no reason Pearson couldn't have upped the quality to a Harry...more

In spite of the mixed reviews on here I went ahead and read the second book in the Kingdom Keeper series and I enjoyed it. I am not one of those people who read a book to just find out what is wrong with it so I enjoyed it. If you are one of those people who will get hung up on the fact that Finn has a sister even though the author didn't tell us that he did in the first book (nor did he tell us that Finn didn't have one) or the fact that the park doesn't have free wi-fi (seriously, are you real...more
The series continues as the Kingdom Keepers, our famous five DHI’s, find themselves once again thrown into a world of adventure and intrigue. Magic Kingdom throws a parade to celebrate the re-release of the Disney Holograms, the five youth guides of the park. The DHI’s lead the parade and their originals, now a little older and more filled out, follow behind on the closing float. But during the middle of the parade a great storm starts brewing leading to the release of the Disney villain they ha...more
While still recovering from their first overnight adventures in the Magic Kingdom. Finn, the unelected leader, is join by techie Philby, Willa, Charlene, and Maybeck when they are once again forced to use their surprising talents. These skills came about after they became DHIs, or digital hosts for Disney World. It seems that when they go to sleep in the real world, they appear as holograms in various locations in Disney World.

This is the second installment of the Kingdom Keepers series. In this one, Finn and his friends must save Jess, (who for some reason went back to being called Jez for this book?) who has been kidnapped by the OTs. At the same time, another Overtaker rises, one who is even more evil than Malificent...

I will admit it, I am a fan of Disney. I am also a fan of suspense and science fiction. So when the three came together in this series, I figured what the heck. Ok, the truth is I had run out of books to read and my son had the Kingdom Keepers books lying around and I started reading. Once I started the first in the series, however, I definitely wanted to continue.

Again, if I wasn't such a Disney fan, my liking for this book would not be this much.
In some ways this book was better than Disney at Dark (Kingdom Keepers #1). The mystery was more interesting and the information given was fascinating (as far as how the parks run etc). It definitely was action-packed but it still lacked something.
Still, I'm struggling with the portrayal of the kids in these stories. They just.. act like what an adult would envision a kid to be like (if that makes sense?) Everyt...more

Pearson, Ridley. (2008). Kingdom Keepers 2 Disney at Dawn. Disney editions. (378pp).
Have you ever had a double? A virtual double? In the book Kingdom Keepers 2 Disney at Dawn by Ridley Pearson they do. Same complaints as in my review of the first in the series. Again, interesting concept, but wasted potential. And if continuity errors drive you nuts, this book will make you yell at the pages. On one page the character puts the blackberry in his pocket. A beat later, as you turn the page, he is seeing something "by the light of the blackberry." Almost everything taking place inside the "Virtual Magic Kingdom," an online MMOG, made me crazy. We're told the game was taken offline, the public is n...more

I still wish I could like the series but it still continues to just be so very badly written.
And, I can handle the kids turning into holograms; I can believe Disney villains are trying to take over the parks - those things are supposed to be fiction and they're part of the fantasy of the story. But when you get basic, simple real-world facts wrong, it's SO aggravating.
For example, a huge part of the plot requires that they stay in communication. And they opt to use Nintendo DS systems. But...more

Disney at Dawn continues the story of your fave DHIs: Finn, Maybeck, Willa, Philby and Charlene (and their friends/sidekicks Amanda, Jez and Wayne) and their pursuit to save Disney World from the Overtakers, Disney Villians, who have come to life and cause all sorts of mayhem in their pursuits to rule the park and eventually the world.

What a fun time I had reading this book. It was light-hearted, suspenseful, intriguing (if you're still a kid at heart like myself), and well written. I recommend this book to anyone.
So here's the rundown: Finn Whitman and his friends are back in the Magic Kingdom this time more specifically in the Animal Kingdom looking for the missing sister of Finn's mysterious friend Amanda. I read the first Kingdom Keepers book a while ago. When I first learned of the series I was very excited about the premise and really looked forward to diving in. While I enjoyed the first book, I wasn't as excited as I thought I might have been and so I delayed moving on to book two.

This was another action-packed adventure set in Walt Disney World, this time in Animal Kingdom. Maleficent has escaped, and it appears that she intends to set Chernabog (the Fantasia villain) loose on the world. Finn and the rest of the Kingdom Keepers have to stop her...but they have to do it quickly, because if they fall asleep, they'll turn into holograms and be captured.

"Disney at Dawn" is the second of Ridley Pearson's clever Kingdom Keepers series. In this outing the Disney Host Interactive (DHI) kids are participating in a celebration at Orlando's Magic Kingdom when they start noticing animals in the park. Animals belong at Animal Kingdom, of course ... and that's the beginning of the troubles.
It seems that the Overtakers, a crew of Disney villains from the first book, have a new plan for taking over the parks ... and it involves the animals.

OK, after reading this, I am convinced that Ridley Pearson has amnesia, because he really can not keep the rules of his own universe straight. He even admits in the back of the book that his writing partner (on other books) came up with the idea and plot. The first half of this book in particular annoyed me because it rehashed "facts" from the first book, which were not necessarily what happened. While I think most 2nd books should remind you of what happened in the previous adventure this one s...more
This book was amazing. It carried on from the first book very well "Kingdom Keeper Disney after dark", this book involves the same DHIs as the first book Finn, Maybeck, Charlene, Willa and Philby as their adventure of uncovering what the overtakers want leads them to the Animal Kingdom. Whilst there they are in a race against time to stop Maleficent from taking over the Animal Kingdom and bring her leader alive "Chernabog" the most powerful of all the disney villains that Walt created. whilast t...more
I loved this book! I love The Kingdom Keepers! This book was just as good as the first one, less scary but still really exciting. You got to know the charcters better and becuase I've been to Animal Kingdom I get a really clear picture of everything in my head. The only thing I couldn't picture was the Chernabog and I've seen Fantasia. Just googled him and he does look pretty scary but I really don't remember him from the film. The book didn't really have much of a good vs. evil face off at the...more
It has been about 4 years between Disney at Dark and Disney at Dawn. This is what was hard about reading this at first, not enough infomation given by author on incidents he mention that happened in book 1. Once I got past that, it was an adventure story. Evil is trying to overtake Disney by making and controlling holograms of animals. The Kingdom Keepers are the only authorized holograms allowed in the park and for once the human verison are allowed to visit due to a parade to honor them. This...more
When I bought the first Kingdom Keepers book, I also purchased the second along with it anticipating that I would like the first enough to read the second. I was hugely impressed with it, but I gave this one a shot anyways. I am a little bit torn on it. I think it is written a lot better than the first and the characters have become more mature after the events in the first book and that makes this one more readable, even though it is all still complete fantasy (which is more than acceptable con...more
In this book the five DHIs are having a celabration of reatering the atraction of the park. The celabration is cut short becaus of a magical chang in the weather. They find out that the witch Malificent was using the storm to break free. They also find out that there friend Jez (who can dream the futer) has been taken by the over takers the main goal of there mission is to re-captur Malificent find Jez and stop the Overtaker's plan to free Chenabog.

An entertaining sequel that suffers from being a transition book from the one story to another. At the end of it, the kids succeed in part of their goal only to be left with something else they need to do.
This time they find themselves in Animal Kingdom and are forced to run around dodging animals and hunting high and low (literally) for a kidnapped friend. The majority of the book takes place in a single day, so the character development that happened in the first book is mostly absent in this...more

This is a sequel to the first Kingdom Keeper book and it was, as I understand, a few years later. It was also something of a disappointment... or the one where Pearson got a little lazy. Not that I want to pick apart a kid's book, but there are a handful (or two) of inconsistencies that raise flags and take the reader out of this adventure. Many are minor, like confusing which character did what and whether or not clues would mean anything to characters who weren't privy to certain conversations...more
As an avid Disney fan and as one who loves a great book, I was disappointed by both aspects. Perhaps it was designed for children to read, and that would explain the predictability. To top it off, the characters are flat. They have as much substance as their DHI projections. What makes these kids tick? What are their fears, their pain?
