This book is a lovely collection of the easiest skirts & dresses styles to try for first time sewers, from the A-line skirt to the shift dress and many other options in between. The authors also suggests little variances for each style, such as using contrasting bias binding, or embroidering the collar. I will definitely refer to this book in the future and use it as a springboard for creativity! Love it!

Pattern QRs and URLs included :)

Patterns are basic and are to be downloaded from PDF (5 sizes) - but what is interesting about this book is the section for each garment: Key characteristics/Who does it suit?/Suitable fabrics/Styling tips. Links sewing to style. Also, good inspiration on how to modify a basic pattern to create a completely different garment - might be worth borrowing again from the library.

Christine Haynes has been sewing since she was 10 years old, when she learned from her mother in small-town Michigan. She has a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and started her own line of vintage-inspired sewing patterns in 2011. Her first book, Chic & Simple Sewing, published by Potter Craft in 2009, led to a career teaching sewing, which she still does today in Los ...more
