Evie needs a good holiday. Not just because she’s been working all hours in her job, but also because every holiday she has ever been on in her life has involved sunburn, arguments and projectile vomiting – sometimes all three at once. Why can’t she have a normal holiday, like other people seem to have – some sun, sand, sea and (hopefully) sex?

So when her employers invite...more

Jenny Colgan's operation sunshine is a wildely fun novel with a gritty edge centering around main character Evie. Evie is easy to identify with due to her overwhelming desire to go on holiday. Sun sea and sand is what she's after. Evie is soon on her way to the Cote d'azur with her two bosses ( harley street cosmetic surgeons) to a major conference for a new project known only as 'Operation Sunshine'

A fast paced witty novel 'Operation Sunshine' is full of laughs aplenty and shocking discoveries...more

More of a 2.5 stars. I got this book free in a mag - I think it was Cosmopolitan and I really wasn't interested in the look of it at all, or the blurb. But, me being me, I couldn't just throw a book away... so it went under my bed for... oh I dunno a couple years or months or something.
Well, I have eventually got to it - I was after something light after reading Nien's 'Life and Death in Shanghai' and well - it was a light read.

The story reminded me somewhat of 'Bridget Jones' though not as witt...more

Operation Sunshine is about a receptionist in Harley Street who is asked to administer at a conference being held by her practice in Cannes, and her (mis)adventures there. Which include romance. Obviously.

I really, really like Jenny Colgan. As a person, that is. I have read a previous novel of hers called Amanda's Wedding, because I am a Manda, but have very little recollection of the novel apart from the title. I do not even recall if I enjoyed it or not. Jenny herself however, I love. I have s...more

Evie works on reception for a plastic surgeons clinic in Harley Street in London, when her employers invite her to attend a conference with them in the South of France; she sees it as a chance to have a good holiday. It is just what she is looking for, the chance to have a normal holiday, sun, sea and hopefully sex. Every holiday Evie has been on has not gone too well in the past. Will this one make a difference and be the holiday of a lifetime?

I really do enjoy reading Jenny Colgan’s books and...more

I do love Jenny Colgan. She makes me laugh out loud and always writes heroines you can root for and leading men you can fall for (more often than not they're not arrogant, handsome lady-killers with hidden depths and a heart of gold - but more realistic flawed men who are kind of cute and eventually figure out how to win a girl-next-door's heart). I know she'll never win any litarary awards or acclaim but I also know that whenever I want a break from the often emotionally draining Booker prze wi...more

Looking at the title and description of this book I thought it was going to be quite a laugh and a good idea but I really struggled to get to the end I'm afraid.

It was all a bit silly and the characters all seemed to be over the top stereotypes, sooo good looking or sooo geeky. The main character started off as a ditzy receptionist who was useless at most things and then seemed to change, unbelievabley, into someone quite different by the end. I didn't particularly like her and I wasn't even th...more

There is something about Jenny Colgans books which stop me from loving them. I can't quiet put my finger on it. There is just something missing. This one was the same, took me about 30 or so pages before I got into it. I didn't love it but I didn't dislike it. It also suprised me because I thought it was just going to be a holiday disaster plot but there was a bit more to it. One of the better Colgan books I've read but I don't think she's ever going to be in the same league as Jane Green or Mar...more

I spent most of this book trying to work out what was happening. I just didn't know whether it was supposed to be a romanctic comedy or a thriller, and somehow it ended up being neither. I found the world of surgery hard to care about, and the main character was very self absobed and pretty useless. I found Wilf to be boring and dull, and the complete lack of romantic spark there meant the ending was pretty tacked on and unsatisfactory. A shame really.

It started off quite funny and made me laugh a few times, but as the story progressed, so did the ridiculousness. The type of chick-lit that I hate with the main character as the irritating "look at me, I'm so ditzy but adorable" types who gets into countless stupid situations yet, unsurprisingly gets the guy at the end. The only person I feel ever did this successfully was Sophie Kinsella with the first couple of Shopaholic books.

A freebie from a magazine. Going to give it a quick read before bookcrossing it

Glad I didn't pay for this! It was alright I guess, but I don't think I'd bother with any more of her books. The central character was trying to be like Becky from the Shopaholic books, but without the charm that that character has.

Will bookcross it and perhaps someone else will enjoy it.

It's unfair to say i really didn't like this book, because i read it to the end, and i liked the plot, but the first few chapers were so cheesy! Just a generic character with generic chic-lit feelings written in a really cheesy way, it made me cringe.

I dont think i'd bother reading anything by this author again if this is anything to go by.
Jenny
A bit of a odd book - the animal activism plot was a bit strange and felt a bit tacked on and not explored properly, but oddly I was gripped and wanted to see what would happen in the story next.

Very cute book! I'm very American so I got slowed down a bit by some of the wording but not too much. I read it in about a day. A good quick read. It really made me want to jet set to France or somewhere equally beautiful!
Maud
The type of book that is filled with clichés, tiring (main) characters, stylistic inconsistencies and outrageous plot lines. But it was a nice quick read, entertaining enough, and I got the copy for free, so who cares?
Anna
This had a surprisingly high plot-to-romance ratio which I liked but I did get a liiiittle bit bored..it doesn't live up to some of the author's other books unfortunately.
Malou
I like her work as it makes you laugh out loud. I definitely recommend it as a summer/beach read as it is light and fun reading. My favourite book remains "Meet me at the Cupcake Café".

A witty, enjoyable read with minimum brain-power required. If you simply want entertaining or to unwind, this is the book to read.

1 1/2 - 1 for enjoyment and half for plot.

Not very good, but was a quick read and quite enjoyable. Probably won't pick it up again though.

I takes some talent to come up with a story this stupid, and still manage to write a half way entertaining novel around it.

Yes i was suprised Lydia's parents is from Malaysia :)
Juliet
I enjoyed the book, but not as much as some of her other books if I'm honest. It seemed very rushed at the end and just sort of stopped.

Read by the pool in Majorca. Great holiday read. Easy going. A tad far fetched at times

This book is about Evie who works as a receptionist for a plastic surgeons and is invited to a conference with work. I read Meet me at the cupcake cafe before I read this which I did prefer. This was ok, an easy read and think it would make a good holiday read.
Amanda
