This takes place in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States in 1817 ten years after the previous book in the series. The heroine, Celia, is twenty-four. She has blond hair and brown eyes. The hero is Justin Vallerand and he has dark hair and blue eyes and is twenty-five. His identical twin brother, Philippe, is her husband.

Sadly, I only liked the first quarter of the book, which was the first 100 pages. So many things, so much action, took place during the beginning that I felt like there was not...more

Guardando i voti degli ultimi romanzi della Kleypas, questo tre non mi sorprende più di tanto. Praticamente mi sono abituata a darle un voto medio e a non rimanere fulminata come mi capitava con le prime letture.
D'altronde bisogna essere realisti e accettare che non tutte le ciambelle escono con il buco. Alcune partite hanno proprio lo stampo sbagliato.

In questo caso, però, il voto doveva essere un 4. All'inizio ero presa dalla storia, i personaggi mi piacevano ma dalla metà in poi ho avuto un calo di interesse drammatico. Non vedevo di arrivare alla fine per leggere altro.
La storia ha come protagonista Justin, il gemello ribelle della famiglia Vallerand. Per un attimo, però, ho avuto il terrore che l'eroe fosse Philippe perché la storia si apre proprio con lui e Celia. Ho dovuto controllare la trama nel retro per tranquillizzarmi. Non per niente, ma Phillip è noioso fino al midollo, fin da quando era piccino nel primo romanzo. Justin, invece, con il suo atteggiamento ha dimostrato di avere un grande potenziale. Non mi aspettavo che diventasse un pirata, così dal nulla, perché nel romanzo precedente la pirateria non era un elemento così presente.
Quindi, Justin il figlio cattivo, per un attimo sembra essere il vero cattivo della storia. Celia e Philippe vengono assaliti dai pirati mentre stanno tornando a New Orleans come novelli sposi. Durante l'assalto Philippe rimane ferito e viene gettato in mare e Celia viene rapita dal cattivo per essere data in regalo al fratello psicopatico del pirata. A questo punto si capisce che il pirata non è Justin. Tiriamo un sospiro di sollievo.
Tra mille peripezie, questa poveretta viene sballottata come un sacco di patate verso l'isola dei pirati dove diventerà carne da macello, letteralmente. Per fortuna appare, finalmente, il Grifone. Questo omaccione grande e grosso, con una massa di capelli che neanche Tom Hanks in Cast Away, barbuto, bruciacchiato dal sole...insomma talmente camuffato che Celia nemmeno si accorge che ha lo stesso strano colore degli occhi di Philippe. La poverina, ormai isterica, prega di lasciarla andare in cambio di un riscatto perché lei, dopotutto, è una Vallerand. A questo nome Justin esce dalla sua tana oscura e decide che non può lasciare che questa sbirulina venga maciullata dal ciccione Legare. Quindi, riassumo brutalmente, la salva diventando il nemico numero uno del cattivissimo Legare. Justin decide che la cosa migliore è portarla dai Vallerand eliminare Legare, e tornare il più velocemente possibile alla sua vita. Quello che non prevede è che Celia lo attizza. Eh già, anche se è la moglie del fratello morto se la vuole fare. Celia, d'altra parte, non è certo una povera ingenua. Per quanto sia disperata e dispiaciuta, non lo è abbastanza. Lei non sa che il Grifone, Justin, è il gemello del marito e si lascia andare ad esperienze sensoriali inaspettate.
Poi c'è la separazione, di mesi, durante i quali Celia combatte tra l'odio verso Justin e verso sé stessa, e l'inevitabile malinconia. Quando Justin ritorna, ferito e malconcio, i due riprendono da dove avevano lasciato. Fin qui, tutto bene. Il contrasto 'mannaggia a te che non mi hai detto chi eri' e 'ti amo, ti lovvo, I love you' è abbastanza da rendere coinvolgente la storia ma appena i due diventano pucci e innamorati tutto si trasforma in noia assoluta e in prevedibilità. Tutta la parte finale, Justin che si scambia per il fratello redivivo, Legare e l'assalto all'isola...di una noia disarmante. Sapevo che fine avrebbe fatto e quindi non avevo nessun interesse nel continuare la lettura. Sono arrivata alla fine con un sospiro di sollievo perché, va bene tutto, ma la noia non la sopporto. Ma va bene anche così, anche se la parte finale non è il massimo, la precedente è stata abbastanza per rendere piacevole la lettura.(less)

Oh, Lisa Kleypas, why?

I am fast coming to the conclusion that I don't care for most of Kleypas' stuff outside of her Hathaways and Wallflowers series. How one woman can write two series so good and the rest so not, is a mystery. But even with that, Only With Your Love is a whole other kettle of fish.

I mean, what woman wouldn't want a true love who is a rapist pirate twin of your kinda-dead husband?

Better than book #1. Dari buku 1 gw mang ud suka dengan karakter Justin, hingga buku 2 inipun karakter yg gw suka tetep karakter Justin dibanding yang lain. trus tiba2 Justin terluka parah dan hampir buta kr ngadepin si bajak laut jahat *ah gw lupa namanya* pokoknya trus Justin balik ke Perkebunan dan di rawat Celia, Max n Istrinya *gw lupa speling ini emak tirinya Justin kwkwkw* bingung dong, secara Celia kan benci Justin tp mo ngerawat dia :D
trus ada kapten entah siapa namanya yg cari kapten Griffin aka Justin, dan mo nggantung kepalanya. jadi Max nyaranin biar Justin nyamar jadi Philip toh Philip udah mati kan dan Celia jadi istrinya.

Hingga pas pesta dansa di rumah *lagi2 gw lupa namanya* si bajak laut jahat itu datang dan bilang kl Philip masih idup dan ada ditangannya, dia minta dituker sama Justin. jreng jreng jreng.. seperti apa kelanjutannya? sementara Celia dan Justin sudah saling mencintai satu sama lain tp dimata hukum ttp aja Celia itu istri Philip dan Philip akan kembali..
baca sendiri lah kelanjutannya.. ngga asik kl spoiler, blm lagi penghianatan-penghianatan awak kapalnya Justin, blm lagi si kapten yg mo nangkep Justin aka Kap.Griffin.. seru deh pokoknya...

yg jelas tidak ada manusia yg sempurna, Philip yang selama ini dikenal alim dan bertanggung jawab t-e-r-n-y-a-t-a!!!! *jreng-jreng* udah ah... cape :P (less)

Celia, gadis Prancis, yang menikah sama Philippe diboyong Philippe ke New Orleans naik kapal. Eh, pas mau malam kesekian (jadi udah beberapa minggu merit nih si Celia masih perawan, katanya sih belum siap… jaman sekarang, no way), tiba2 kapal diserbu (ugh… ganggu aja neh bajak laut, lg asik2nya jg, begitu kata Philippe kali). Really enjoyed it. Continuing with the Kleypas backlist. This was obviously an older one because it featured an old favorite plot device that you just no longer see due to the political incorrectness of it all - i.e. the one where the hero is a pirate and encounters the heroine when she is abducted on the high seas. This one was a bit toned down because the hero didn't do the initial capturing - he steals her from a really bad pirate to save her because...*drum roll* he's the twin brother of her...more

I absolutely LOVED this book!!! I've recently gone back and read all of Lisa's books that I haven't read, which have been many, and I have to say this tops the list of one of the best, if not the best, books I've read.

I didn't like Justin too much in the first book, When Strangers Marry (an ok book), because he was selfish and nothing but a troublemaker. He changed in that book toward the end and I came to like him. I was so happy to find out Only With Your Love was Justin's story. It was more t...more

Celia ini beruntung karena bertemu dgn Kapten Griffin yg tak lain adalah kembaran suaminya (awalnya Justin merahasiakannya dari Celia). Ditengah pelarian mereka terjadilah "insiden" yg menjadi salah satu penyebab perubahan hati Celia terhadap suaminya (Celia sangat membenci Justin karenanya).
Setelah 5 bulan ditinggalkan dgn aman di keluarga Vallerand dan menjalani kehidupan sebagai seorang janda, Celia harus merawat Justin karena luka luka yg dialaminya dlm usahanya membalaskan dendam atas kematian saudaranya. Selain itu celia dan Justin harus bersandiwara agar Justin tdk ditangkap oleh pihak pemerintah karena aksi aksinya selama ia menjalani kehidupan sebagai perompak laut. Ditengah badai perubahan hati keduanya, diketahui bahwa Philippe masih hidup dan mejadi tawanan di pulau perompak. Atas usaha Justin, Max, dan mantan anak buah Justin, Philippe dpt diselamatkan dan gerombollan Legare dpt dihancurkan.
Penyelesaian keruwetan cinta segitiga antara Justin-Celia-Philippe sangat mengharukan. Awalnya Philippe menolak perpisahannya dgn Celia dgn alasan cinta sesaat dan Justin yg terkenal playboy (Philippe masih mengorbankan perasaannya sendiri). Tapi dgn sabar Celia meyakinkan Philippe dan sekaligus menyadarkan Philippe akan perasaannya terhadap Celia dan gadis lain yg sangat dicintai Philippe.

Menurut aku, Sosok Justin dan Philippe merupakan penggambaran ulang sosok ayah mereka Max.
Philippe, istrinya berpindah kelain hati (karena situasi, Celia mengira suaminya sdh mati) dan akhirnya mendapatkan wanita pujaan hati. Sedangkan Jusin merebut Celia dari Philippe (spt Max merebut Lysette dari tangan Etienne).(less)

The story was really heavy, while reading it I was wondering if there were any redeeming values and if the way they would be written could balance the gloom in the book. The events happened years after Lysette and Max got married and in here they already have three children. So it's time for Max's twins to take the stage. Enter Philippe, whom I found boring in the first book because of his righteousness, and Justin whom I didn't necessarily like in the first book, but came to love in this one.

I guess even the most awesome writer cannot write a winner every single time :P I have never read a Lisa Kleypas book that I don't love or like...until this one.

I always believe that LK's strength is her ability to write wonderful, larger-than-life characters; heroes that you immediately fall in love with, and heroines that you wish you want to be.

Unfortunately, in Only With Your Love, not only do I not want to become the heroine, I don't even want to be anywhere near her! She's such a tiresome...more

i started reading this and liked the fact that the character was really shy and misunderstood becuse of that because not many authors write about characters like that. and then just as quickly,i hated it.
because soon after turning the first page i realized that the girl is one of those weak characters who cant hold it together.they're the farthest thing from a heroine that you could possibly get. i mean she acts like a completely helpless baby because of the blood rushing through her arms or her...more

The setting is Louisiana around the year 1817. This features the sons of Max Vallerand from Only in Your Arms.

Definitely has a more old school (bodice ripper) feel to it. Not anything like Ms Kleypas current releases. But for what it is I enjoyed it.

Un passo avanti deciso rispetto al primo capitolo della saga Vallerand.
Insolitamente avventuroso per gli standard della Kleypas, soprattutto nella parte iniziale e finale, è un romanzo che mi ha appassionato e coinvolto.
La storia è movimentata e romantica quanto basta per essere credibile; i personaggi principali sono caratterizzati in maniera curata, soprattutto Justin, il cui cambiamento da pirata a uomo innamorato è delineato in maniera convincente e non banale.

I cant believe I'm saying this but... this was just ok. In fact Griffin (Justin) was a crappy hero. He bothered me in so many ways. 300 pages in and I still didn't like him. Honestly the relationship between Justin and Celia felt force. I really wanted Celia to run from Justin than to him. He just loved to put her down and hurt her. I first read ONLY WITH YOUR LOVE about 5 years ago and was kind of shocked when I reread it recently. It definitely doesn't compare to Lisa Kleypas' later work, but most troubling was the fact that some of the "romance scenes" between the hero and heroine, if presented in a court of law today, would qualify as rape. The second half of the book is great and Justin's love for Celia is passionate and wonderful in this section, but I just couldn't get over how they started off and wish that some of...more

Mudah saja untuk menebaknya bagi para pembaca seri Vallerand pertama, Only in Your Arms karena memang kedua buku ini saling terkait. Kematian Phillipe di awal cerita membuatku mengernyitkan dahi, secepat itukah tokoh ini meninggal? Apakah memang hanya untuk pengantar kisah cinta Celia-Griffin saja? Namun kukesampingkan saja pemikiran tersebut karena memang sesuai sinopsis di atas, cerita di buku ini terfokus pada kisah kedua orang yang terjebak dalam permainan takdir tersebut.

Permainan takdir seperti apa yang mengikat Celia-Griffin? Well, Griffin yang sejak pertama merasa tertarik pada Celia berhasil memaksa gadis itu untuk memenuhi seluruh keinginannya dengan jaminan perlindungan dari keluarga Phillipe. Setelah bertemua keluarga besar Vallerand, Celia-Griffin bukannya berdamai namun malah sering berseteru seiring dengan semakin besarnya rasa ketertarikan di antara mereka berdua. Bahkan saat Griffin terluka, Celia-lah yang merawatnya dengan telaten secara diam-diam. Ketika pada akhirnya mereka berdua nyaris meraih kebahagiaan, kenyataan masa lalu harus mereka hadapi berdua.

Sosok Griffin yang bengal dan berkharisma mampu menarik perhatian para pembaca, namun tidak demikian dengan sosok Celia yang dinilai malu-malu mau tapi mengingkari perasaannya kepada Griffin. Aku sendiri sempat merasakan hal yang sama, kesal kepada Celia yang mudah tergoda dan Griffin yang bertindak di luar batas sementara dirinya mengetahui kebenaran tentang kelaurga Vallerand.

Sebuah twist yang disajikan di pertengahan cerita untuk memperlihatkan bahwa sebenarnya sosok Phillipe tidak sesempurna yang dikira oleh keluarganya sempat membuatku geram. Kenapa harus dengan cara itu? Kesan pertama tentang Phillipe di awal cerita seakan hikang begitu saja terkait dengan sikapnya tersebut. Bagiku ini dibuat untuk menyelamatkan karakter Griffin di hadapan Celia dan keluarganya, padahal sebenarnya hal itu tidak perlu dilakukan.

Walaupun banyak yang lebih menyukai buku pertama seri ini, namun sejujurnya aku lebih menyukai buku kedua ini. Konfliknya tidak melulu tentag hubungan kedua tokoh utama namun juga tentang efek masa-masa pemberontakan Griffin semasa menjadi perompak yang akhirnya ikut menentukan alur menuju akhir cerita ini.(less)

I went back and forth whether to give this a 3 or 4 star rating. So probably 3.5 is a good choice. This is the second and final book in the Vallerand series.
