Love Inspired romances are sweet, upbeat reads, often just what I'm looking for in the midst of busy times. And although Second Chance Reunion is sweet and inspiring, Merrillee involves her characters in some pretty serious situations. I enjoyed the depth of storyline and Merrillee's writing.

In years past, both Annie and Ian's behavior had been destructive to themselves and their marriage. "As a preacher's kid, he should've been someone w

“Second Chance Reunion” by Merrillee Whren is the first book of her 'Village of Hope' series and I was hooked after the first chapter or two. I have to say that I just loved this story for it was so different in a lot of ways that really surprised me.

In most stories, if there is going to be someone who is a graduate of the school of hard knocks it is either the hero or heroine, while the other one has almost always had their act together. This is different for both the hero and heroine are gradu

It is far too easy to become caught up in today’s world of drugs and free flowing alcohol.
Second Chance Reunion offers us a window into the life of Annie Payton and her determination to remain clean.

The story begins with Annie’s arrival at the Village of Hope, a Christian center where people can come for shelter from abuse, to get back on their feet after going through rehab, or reside in an assisted living facility. In addition, the shelter offers legal services which Annie desperately needs i

When you reach rock-bottom, there’s nowhere to go but ‘up,’ right? Annie Payton has made serious past mistakes, abusing alcohol and drugs and stealing money to pay for those habits. After losing her children to social services, she starts to get her life back on track, completing a year-long rehab and doing whatever it takes to win back custody of her children. But the past still lingers and even those who are helping her at Village of Hope seem to have their doubts; especially ex-husband Ian ...more

I love Merrilee Whren, and I think this has got to be one of my favorite's of her book's. The first in her new Village of Hope series. I am already looking forward to the upcoming books in the series. I really enjoyed this story. So heartwarming, hopeful, yet realistic. I really liked BOTH the Hero, Ian Montgomery and Annie Payton. This story was a little different, in that, Annie and Ian were married before, until drugs got in the way and destroyed their marriage. I loved how strong they were. ...more

This was the first in a series and it is another great book by Merrillee Whren. Annie has had her share of problems. She used to party and had a problem with substance abuse. She has lost her two children and is trying get her life back on track. Her main goal is to straighten out, get her children back and be the best mother she can be to them.

When she enters The Village of Hope where they will help her straighten her life out she runs into her ex-husband Ian. They had a lot of problems that th

Annie is hoping that her life can get back on track. She has been through a troublesome time that included an addiction, a failed marriage and having her children taken away from her due to her life choices. She is on a good path now, and wants to continue to live her life in the right way and hopefully be able to get her children back with her. Ian and Annie have a past relationship that no one knows about. He has a story in his past, too, and some of that story included Annie. He wants to ...more

I got this book in a giveaway, and am very glad I did. Annie comes to the Village of Hope to try and rebuild her life after rehab. Her first priority is to get her kids back! She is shocked to see that Ian, her ex-husband, is the lawyer there. Ian isn’t sure he can trust that Annie has really changed for good. She hasn’t before.

I liked the fact that Annie had tried to get sober more than once before. I think that’s how it is for so many of us when we try to change, whether the change is big or s

Annie has been through so much, a failed marriage to Ian due to substance abuse and betrayal, a second relationship that included two children and those children being taken away because of continued substance abuse. Annie wants to get her children back.

She comes to Village of Hope to get her life back on track and hopefully be reunited with her children. The resident lawyer that ends up taking her case is none other than Ian, her former husband, and the very one that turned her in to the DFCS (

I loved Ian and Annie's story of second chances! Annie Payton had gone down a rough road having traded her marriage to Ian Montgomery for drugs and alcohol. Finally after having her to young children taken away and a street preacher sharing God's love, Annie started on the path of healing at Hope Village. Ian wasn't prepared for the jump his heart made at seeing his ex-wife in his office even after all that had happened between them. Would Ian be able or be willing to help Annie to get her kids ...more

I loved this book, first in the series,The Village of Hope.
It's the story of Annie Peyton and Ian Montgomery.
We see their struggles as they have a growing attraction again after being divorced for over six years.
I loved the interaction between the characters and I especially loved the ladies in assisted living.
To me Village of Hope could be a model for what every community should have, a place for all ages to come together in harmony, a place to redeem yourself in a Christian environment.

This is a powerful story of love and forgiveness. Whren deals with the difficult topic of substance abuse with sensitivity and compassion. I appreciated her delicate touch as Annie and Ian overcome past hurts and betrayal and work together to save Village of Hope and Annie’s family. This book has it all, drama, romance, mercy, and adorable kids. Annie’s journey to recovery touched my heart. I could relate to the difficult decisions Annie’s loved ones made in their efforts to help her. This was ...more

She is the best Love Inspired author I've read. Whren has a way with words. Ian and Annie felt so real. What I loved about her writing was that the characters were really flawed. Even though other LI writers' characters have sketchy pasts as well, they are pretty clean while the story is unfolding. Their characters are filled with self-doubt but are otherwise squeaky clean. Whren's characters get jealous, defensive, insensitive, and mean towards each other. This makes them real. I loved reading ...more

Cannot go on...
Just cannot go on!

I wanted to at least finish the book, but the problems with the premise are too glaring to overcome. Is the storyline possible? Yes. Is it probable? Not so much.

Another reviewer describes the book as "cloying," and unfortunately, I have to agree.

I would not rule-out other books by the author, however.

Second chance Reunion a village Of Hope series by Merrillee Whren was a very good good. Annie Payton did drugs and lost her two children. She is now living at The Village Of Hope a place that helps people in trouble. Annie is trying to get her kids back. Ian Montgomery, her ex husband works there. He works to help her get her children back. A very good book. A lot goes on in this book. A must read.
Another great book by Merillee Whren! This book is the first book in the Village of Hope series. Annie has had a tough past and is trying to better herself so she can get custody of her kids back. Will Ian her ex-husband and Annie grow back together? This storyline was great and kept me reading from beginning to end. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I received this book as a Goodreads giveaway and really appreciate the chances that Goodreads give to try a variety of books. Unfortunately I tried reading this one but gave up in the end. I found it cloying and smothering. I believe but this was completely over the top. I'm sorry but it isn't for me.

A wonderful Christian romance. The story deals with second chances forgiveness and healing. The book is very well written with true to life characters who are dealing with circumstances that we could find ourselves in. If you are looking for a fast read but still a good read I recommend this book.
