The author does a good job at examining how the world looks at Christianity and the fact that everyone, Christans included, suffer from temptations and trials. What is different is the way these trials are handled.
I also found myself examining my own hypocrisy in my life. While I put on the right face when at church or other places in public, I find it easy to make all kinds of excuses as to why I am not faithful with my pray and personal study life. I fear that I am more of a cultural Christian...more

This storyline totally captured me right off the bat. I have been telling people about it left and right before I even finished it. The concept of pretending to be a Christian just to get a job at a Christian publishing company I found quite interesting. The ideas that non-Christians have about Christians and how they should be can be delusional at best, yet I find that I can also be judgmental myself towards Christians and non-Christians alike. To non-Christians this would be deemed as hypocrit...more

This book was one I could barely put down! There were so many good plotlines and I couldn't help but cheer for both Grace and Jack during the whole book!
It is a Christian book so it follows Grace as she tackles investigative reporting while working at a Christian magazine. She pretends to be a Christian to get the job and when her job at the newspaper wants her to investigate the magazine, her growing faith conflicts. She starts to learn more about her co-workers at the magazine and realize the...more

I almost put this book down after the first 70 pages. I chose this book from the library shelf for a silly reason...I liked the cover. I wasn't familiar with Leigh's work, but I have enjoyed contemporary Christian fiction authors Denise Hildreth and Neta Jackson and Judy Christie to name just a few.
While the opening pages portrayed "Grace" as quirky character, the opening pages also jumped right in to the "How to Be a Christian" lecture which really made it seem as though Leigh was assuming that...more

Faking Grace is the third of Tamara Leigh's books that I've read and enjoyed, but it is definitely the most instructive (or "preachy" if you will). About a girl who pretends to be a Christian to get a job, it inherently asks, what are you faking in your life and faith? I would say that this book targets Christians and people familiar with Christian culture, who have turned from faith or are unsure what it really means. The book does a good job at highlighting some of the stereotypes of Christi...more
Maizy Stewart is an invesitagtive reporter, or was until her ex scooped her on a story and destroyed her career. Now, she's moved to Tennessee where she's writing for a lifestyle section in a local paper. Only working part-time, she is in desperate need of cash. When she spots a job opportunity at a local Christian publishing company who expects their employees to walk the straight and narrow path, she decides desperate times calls for desperate measures. She buys a book called The Dumb Blonde's...more
This Christian chick-lit romance was well-written and did keep me turning the pages, but something felt slightly off to me. It seemed to be written for Christians who view all other Christians as hypocrites. The message for them seemed to be 'Christians are the same as non-Christians, only we've been shown grace.' But that's not what the Bible says on the subject. And, although God was prayed to and proper Christian behavior was discussed in the novel, I didn't feel like God did anything. Christ...more
"Oh, what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive." Shakespeare's timeless words are proven in the story of Maizy Grace Stewart, who lies about her religious beliefs to get a position at a Christian newspaper in order to uncover some gossip. Maizy isn't a good liar, though, and it isn't long until every fib she has told catches up with her. Like Splitting Harriet, another book by Tamara Leigh--whose real name appears to be Tammy Schmanski--this is a female-fronted romp through C...more
I was not sure what to think when I began this book - first I thought it was one of those humorous Christian chick-lit books, but while it has it's humorous moments it is a very well written book with several sub-plots. It does a good job of illustrating how religion is often practiced in church but doesn't always follow in real life situations. Also brings to light that even though you are Christian and practice your religion your life can be filled with all the problems everyone else faces: dr...more
Amazing Grace is summed up in one word for me .... "Amazing" !!
Mazie Grace needs a job, and after failing as an investigative reporter for her last job, she is willing to do what it takes. She has a "friend" who is bitter about her own past, and has given up on her walk with God, so she encourages Mazie to go undercover at a Christian based business.
Problem is, Mazie is not a Christian herself. But, this will not stop her on her mission. She can fake it .... How hard can it be?? She even has the...more

A really great read. I love the way that Leigh handled Grace coming back to Christ. It's a humorous and at times suspenseful book and you can't help but fall for each of the characters. The writing is authentic and I really loved the way she incorporated a book with in a book. Overall a very satisfying and helpful read if you are struggling like Maizy Grace and need to find out what true faith, belief and a relationship with Christ is. Any journey you take starts somewhere and this books is a gr...more
Tamara Leigh writes from a place where true Christian's live. We're not perfect and we blow it more times than we all care to admit. She writes in such a way that you can identify and even laugh at it! This book was so incredibly fun. Maizy Grace is a wonderful character that I fell in love with. I totally recommend this book! Tamara Leigh has become one of my favorites since I began blog touring, and she will remain one. I give this book 5 stars out of 5!
It was so bad that I didn't finish reading it. The plot was contrived, the characters predictable and uninteresting, and I couldn't care less about any of it. I was surprised that this author has published so many books and disappointed - there's so much really good Christian fiction out there right now compared to the past that you hate to think that a book like this is sharing a shelf with the others. Blaugh.
While a somewhat predictable "romantic comedy," it was good for a few laughs. A fast and fun read. It was also thought-provoking on the stereotypical Christian, though perhaps a little unrealistic - but hey, it's a novel. I'm thinking I'd like a copy of the Dumb Blonde's Guide to Christianity that the author refers to throughout the book. I hope someone actually writes it someday.
I didn't know that it was Christian Chick Lit until I got home. However, since I'm a Christian. I didn't mind. It was entertaining and cast a light on Christians as fallible. (The snow white image of the perfect Christian who never makes a mistakes is sooo passe.) It is the ideal that although we are imperfect and make (sometimes doozies of) mistakes, we are forgiven and can start again.
I loved this book! Grace gets herself into a sticky situation that kept me turning pages and saying, "Oh girl! Don't do it!" Highly recommended. If you're a Christian you'll get a laugh and maybe recognize some things you've struggled with, if not, you'll get a glimpse of what some Christians struggle with.
AMAZING book. I could not do it justice with any words so I tell you this: read it or be forced to live with the fact you've never a perfect, totally real book before. Yeah, I know the title is "FAKING Grace", but there is nothing false about this book...even though it IS fiction. :)
I really really loved this book!
What I liked about this, was Grace's attempt to get out of the holes she had dug.
The characters were very well developed, and the development between Jack and Grace was very cute. I loved Jem too, and the relationship that Grace built with her.
The book Grace refers to periodically to be a "good" Christian cracks me up.
Overall, this was a fun book, with a nice theme to it...just because we are Christians doesn't mean we are perfect. We have our problems and trial...more

This was a good, light-hearted read. I wanted to know how Grace/Maizy came out in the end from the very begnning of this book. The books starts off quite comical as Grace gets herself caught up in many lies to get a job at a Christain paper.
Those lies catch up with her and eat away at her...at the same time she's learning more about being a true Christian and developing a relationship with Jesus.
