“... a mythical tale as appealing as it is impressive.”Kirkus Reviews

As a half-faerie, Melia is an outcast in the enchanted world where she lives with her two sisters and full-blood faerie mother. Their father has been exiled to the mortal world for breaking his faerie troth. He's determined to return to the Realm of Faerie by harnessing the power of Umbra, a sinister con

Half Faerie is everything I loved about Nandana's Mark and improved on all the things I was less enthused about.

Melia, the half faerie for which the novel is named, is the middle sister. Her sisters aren't particularly likable, but that's beside the point. Their mother is a faerie who practices black magic, and whose husband has been banished to the mortal world ever since he broke the faerie troth. Completely unrelated, at least at first, is a rumor that a dark force called Umbra is trying ver

War is about to erupt in the world of Faerie, and only Melia has any chance of stopping it.

Let me begin by saying this is an immense fantasy world complete with old tales and legends. A lot of thought has gone into creating this world, and it really shows. Present are faeries, pixies, elves, brownies, and trolls. There are some pretty cool cat characters with distinct personalities, along with a goat that is smarter than some people. Add in some dwarves who love to cook (who I thought were just

This book starts with an totally different feeling than book .5. We meet Melia, a young half-faerie, who's father is developing some pretty evil plans, which will effect existence as all worlds know it. Although it was helpful to read the prologue book to this series, it was not necessary. The characters and circumstances were explained well enough to draw in from the very first page.

Melia is a lovely character. Her innocence is refreshing and her 'not fitting in' immediately demands sympathy.

I loved this book! One of the things I like about this book is the rich world building along with the story line. If you have read Nandana's Mark then you have basically read the first half of this book. However, the revisions have made this book even better than the original in my opinion. I love the longer format and that you actually get to a resolution point at the end. Yet the end is only the beginning. What follows is my original review of Nandana's Mark. The longer storyline is why I have ...more

I was finally able to finish this book! I have been so busy and have had no time to read books other than the ones I needed to read for school!

Although it took me forever to read it, I loved it! I read Nandana's Mark before the change and loved it. When I was reading this remembered somethings but not others, so it was nice reading what I already knew to help the transition into what I haven't read yet. I really liked how this book was long, I remember reading Nandana's Mark and feeling like it

Heidi Garrett can be commended for knowing how to spin a tale full of fantasy and female characters.

My first thought when I think about Half Faerie is the imagery which flows through Ms. Garrett's writing. I wasn't simply reading the story, I was there with Melia as her decisions turned her life upside down. The images popped off the page. Many can write, but not all can "show" the reader through their words. Ms. Garrett can, absolutely.

And this is a fantasy tale. Yet, it was so much more than

i really liked this book. i started reading the story that eventually became this story and heidi was gracious enough to offer this to me in its place. i am glad she did. this is a pretty good story. it has enough magic and mystery to keep me hooked and now i am very curious to see how this entire story arc will end. i just have to read the rest of the series! lol i still have questions about the story and some of the characters but overall i think heidi garrett did a fantastic job introducing a ...more

fantastic. I was asked to review this by the author because I had purchased and reviewed the original version. this was so Much better. having books 1 & 2 together really helped with continuity. the opening scenes are fantastic in this version. much better first impression of protagonist. my minds eye pictured a completely different girl and that affected how I felt about the whole story. Well Played. now I just might have to go read the rest of the series.

I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads.

I quickly fell in love with the characters and the world Heidi Garrett created. There were a few slow moments where the rules of this universe are explained in great detail, however the majority of the book moves at an excellent pace. I strongly recommend this book to any lover of fairy tales.
