Kay Hooper's Chill of Fear is about Quentin and Diana and their special binding to an old Hotel. Quentin is an FBI agent and part of the Special Crimes Unit (SCU) who is obscessed with a murder from his past. Diana is a woman looking for a cure for what she thinks is mental illness. The two are brought together at The Lodge by forces unknown to them in order to help solve a string of murders, as well as find answers to both of their pasts.

This is the second in the Bishop/Special Crimes Unit Series by Kay Hooper. I really liked this one, but probably not as much as the first one.

This novel is based on another member of the SCU. You get to know Quentin who was introduced briefly in the first novel of the series, Hunting Fear.

The story line goes in a different direction from Hunting Fear. There's still the paranormal, but the crimes being investigated are weird. I don't want to divulge any more than that. It ...more

Quentin Hayes and Noah Bishop are part of the FBI’s Special Crimes Unit. Members use there special “talents” to investigate the paranormal. Hayes keeps returning to an aging resort in Tennessee where a child died twenty-five years ago when he and his family were vacationing. Diana Brisco has been haunted by strange nightmares and visions most of her life so her doctor suggests she spend some time at this retreat drawing as a way to relax. Immediately things start happening. She draws a pictu...more

Although Chill of Fear is part of Kay Hooper’s fantastic Noah Bishop/Special Crimes Unit series, I found that this story separated itself in that it jumped to the “ghost story” category; and a mighty fine jump it was!

I thought the mystery surrounding “The Lodge” intriguing and reached the level of where the reader is drawn deep into the mystery and not just needs to find out who and why but must find out!

With Kay Hoopers touches of paranormal, a solid base ...more

In general, I'm not a great fan of ghost stories, but I really enjoyed listening to this book. It's number two of a series, and I'm going to check out the others. I found the story itself to be compelling, with enough twists and turn to keep me interested. Unlike many ghost stores, there was not a stupid heroine who kept getting herself in all sorts of dumb situations. There is a heroine, but she is not dumb. The audio reader is Dick Hill, who always does an excellent job of individualizing ...more

But, Quentin has another problem besides his psychic abilities. He experienced a horrible tragedy as a child, while staying at The Lodge. This hotel placed in the middle of nowhere Tennessee is quite known for its ability to hide secrets and indiscretions. Though I usually like books by Kay Hooper, I felt that this one wasn't as good as others I have read. The premise was interesting--someone was killing guests at The Lodge--over many years' time, and a young woman found out that she was not mentally ill, though she had been medicated for a number of years. Ghosts floated around, sometimes appearing to be solid, and actual persons. There were times when I felt that I was getting lost in the narrative.

This book is very descriptive mays you believe you are there looking over the scenes of what is happening. The author paints the picture so well you feel the pain and gilt that characters are feeling. This book turns so may times it will make you wonder if you will ever figure it out before the end.

Different and unusual storyline. I'm thinking I'm starting to get bored with the whole "Noah Bishop Special Crimes Unit" plotline and wish Hooper would do something different. Having said that, I enjoyed a lot of the characters and finding out some of them weren't who or what you expected...

I had no idea what order these books came in so I just took what was there and dove right in. I remember Kay Hooper from her Romance days, but this was so much better than any of those. Hooper has a great sense of timing in her writing and that makes it easy to keep on going.

I listened to the unbridged audio and found myself so intrigued by the story that I kept sitting in the car in parking lots because I didn't want to stop the flow.

The paranormal aspect of this is so g...more

Another in the Bishop FBI SCU series. This one gives a brief glimspe of the unit in the beginning and the thoroughness of Bishop's research into possible paranormals to add to the group. Bishop has his thumb in a lot of pies and, while he doesn't figure prominently in this story, he is instrumental in getting everyone into location.
Diana has been led to believe that she is insane, or close to it, but here we find that isn't really the case. This story has some unexpected twists and turns, b...more

It was very well read by Dick Hill and had very spine chilling moments. I did not know it was going to be a paranormal book but once over the surprise I really enjoyed it. Some good twists and turns and neat plot twists.

It was hard to decide if this was a 4 or 5 for me. I really enjoyed this book. But it wasn't a book I had to finish before I put it down. I left it last night with 85% read and finished this morning. (therefore the 4 rating)

Wow, wasn't expecting this. I've had this book in my library for a long while, and just recently decided to give it a go. Not disappointed. This is apparently part of a series, so my goal is to track down the other books.

I'm pretty sure this is my favorite Kay Hooper book. The story is interesting, but what really sells me on this story is the spooky, ethereal world Hooper creates between the living and the dead.

I liked this book a lot, all the way up until the part where they started to jump around in realities. I thought it was more of a crime thriller, I wasn't expecting a fantasy novel.

Read this b/c goodreads gave it a high rating. It was very choppy and was about solving crimes using psychics. Pretty average and easy to put down except towards the end it got good.

I've been a fan of Kay Hooper's writing since I picked up her first book many years ago. Chill of Fear has a little less action than some of her others but, for me, it was just as good. The story centers around Diana, a woman coming to terms with her ability as a medium. There's mystery, an emerging romance and, of course, the paranormal world of ghosts and extrasensory abilities.

This is part of the ongoing Bishop/Special Crimes Unit series, though it is also broken down into the se...more

As with most of the BSCU series - this was a true page-turner. While the 'romance' was missing from this romantic suspense - it did not at all take away from the appeal. Chill of Fear was unfolding from the first page, and it never stopped. The clues were revealed steadily, you were right there with the investigators. Sometimes the paranormal can be over done, but did not seem so with this installment. This ones a keeper.
