A Pendragon Gargoyles Prequel

For months Corrine Lawson has walked a fine line between reality and madness. The only thing keeping her sane is her sexy and mysterious next-door-neighbor, Ryker. Yet the closer she gets to uncovering the truth about him, the harder it becomes to resist the man who exposes her to a dangerous world steeped in myth and legend. Surrendering to hi

I'm going to go on record as saying that I think gargoyles are the underutilized paranormal critter in the PNR genre. I mean... THEY'RE MADE OF STONE (at least sometimes) and everyone knows that romance heroes need to have at least one rock hard appendage to really please their lady friends. WHAT'S BETTER THAN WHOLE-BODY STONINESS???

Nothing, that's what.

Anyway. Ryker and Cori. They both have some things that have to work past. He might be hiding a few things about himself and why he befriended h

Great story..

Ok! We have werewolves, panthers, dragons, immortals, Fea, a sorceress, tales of King Arthur, Morgana, Mordred. What a fascinating storyline.

I like Ryker and Corrine, and I like that he’s a werewolf and she’s a panther. And their sexual tension simply terrific. Another thing I like about this book is that both the hero and the heroine are beautiful. I know a lot of you want them to be more “life-like” but I don’t. I have “life-like” every day of my life so I want a book to be a fan

I'm doing this challenge where I need to read books with gargoyles....despite the series name...there is not a traditional gargoyle to be found here. They are more like shifters(wolfs, cats, dragons) that due to an ancient curse turn to stone during the day unless they've found their mate and then they don't. So does that count?

There are Fae, the legend of King Author, a separate world called Avalon, Morgana, sorceresses, the search for Excalibur, revenge, Goddess', half-Gods, betrayal, murder,

A very interesting take on shifters. They are gargoyles during the day if they aren't mated. We also have a flavour of King Arthur & Avalon, Excalibur and the associated myths.

Elina doesn't know she's a Pendragon Gargoyle, as she's never shifted. Her father has basically ignored her as he's a jerk who thinks she is worthless. Until she starts showing signs of shifting. Her dad, Dalton, is a bad, bad man.

Ryder is a Pendragon Gargoyle wolf, and he wants revenge against Dalton for slaughtering

The only reason why I marked this as four starts is for one reason only: Gargoyles. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed reading this. There doesn't seem to be that many books about gargoyles (or shows for that matter). This story had a very interesting twist on them. Primal Instinct has plenty of action and a couple small, steamy scenes. I am on the fence with this one regarding reading the next one in the series. I am thinking I may want to give the author another chance then make my final ...more
Cori and Ryker. I loved the way this started out. Ryker moves in next door to Cori who is a student working long hours to put herself through college. She has never seen him because of the tall fence that separates their houses, but has chatted with him at night across the fence. In fact, you could even say they develop an easy friendship chatting after dark about anything and everything. What she doesn't chat about though, is that she is going mad. In fact she is taking umpteen pharmaceuticals ...more

This prequel to the Pendragon Gargolyes Series written by Sydney Somers presents wonderful characters that I hope will show up in books of their own. In this first book the story is all about Ryker, the ancient werewolf-gargoyle and Cori, the woman coming into her own. The author creates interest from the very first scene where Cori and Ryker are speaking to one another while sitting on their balconies isolated from one another by a partition that hides them from one another. They may be unable ...more

I purchased a copy of this book from Amazon. I am a member of the review team @ The Paranormal Bookshelf.

Corrine thought she was going crazy, she couldn't sleep, she had aggressive moments and she just got fired...AGAIN... The only high point in her life is her neighbour. She's never met him but she has spent every night since he moved in talking to him. She's convinced he must be a werewolf though. Ryker has lost his sister and her children in a horrendous murder. Corrine is the key to his reve

Primal Instinct is a prequel to the Pendragon Gargoyles series. As expected, it is rather short and gives the reader a basic background of the characters and the myths surrounding them. Also crammed into this novella is the story of Corrine and Ryker.

I liked the book, but I can't say I loved it. The problem with authors writing these prequels is trying to fit so much into a book. This results in too much background information being left out and the story line to be rushed.

It did get me interest

I enjoyed reading this book. Ryker had his work cut out for him when he tried to avenge his sister and nephews deaths. When he found Corrine he had no idea what would happen. I would recommend this to any one that likes fast paced and exciting books.

I did not know what to expect from this book, but it's apparently a combination of King Arthur and gargoyle shifters, and magic and sexy times. I see the potential for an interesting series, I'm just not big on the King Arthur legend so I'm not sure I want to keep reading. I like the gargoyles and the idea that if they find their mate they don't have to turn to stone during the day. I'm just not sold on the shifting into their "animal" part. I think there are one too many supernatural elements ...more

So this week I read Primal Instinct by Sydney Somers. My friend, Crystal, at Redheads Review It Better raves about her, so I definitely had to see what’s up. I was pleasantly surprised and very impressed!

In the most basic terms, this book is about Corrine. Holy cow, I loved her! She’s a bit down on her luck and she has these nightly talks with a guy who lives next door to her – and she’s never seen him. They talk over the privacy fence! Anyhow, like I said, she’s down on her luck – and who can’t

I seriously couldn't put this book down. It's a great story. Gargoyles and King Arthur so original. I'm so excited for the next books in the series.

I'm a self professed sucker for a good werewolf book and I like other shifters as well. However, when I read the summary for "Primal Instinct" I was expecting a more traditional version of gargoyles. You know the ones I'm talking about: gothic creatures with wings that are stone during the day but come alive at night. That is not what I received. Anyway, I will say it is difficult to write a review of a book without revealing too much of the plot; so, I'm writing this critique with only myself ...more

I really liked this book. I've started reading paranormal books again after getting burnt out and am really enjoying them. This is the first in the series which deals with shifters and gargoyles which I've not read about before, and so far it's good.

Cori has known something was wrong for several months, but no doctor has been able to help her. The only solace she's found is talking at night to her mysterious neighbor. She hasn't seen his face, but she's drawn to his voice and feels safe when he'

Primal Instinct offered a little bit of the familiar along with a bit of something new. I'm always a sucker for werewolves, so the hero of the novella was already on my good list. I like the introduction of the heroine and the hero as well as their easy relationship (before it's complicated by other matters, anyway).

What I also found refreshing was the King Authur legend retake. I love fantasy but somehow have managed to not stumble upon something like this sooner. Being a novice to the rehash

Primal Instinct is an excellent debut to the Pendragon Gargoyles Series by Sydney Somers. The first chapter was probably one of the best opening chapters I've ever read. It was tight. You could tell the author had tweaked it until she had it just right.

Chapter one introduces us to Cori, a woman having a rough time because she thinks she is going crazy. In the evenings, she goes out on her balcony and confides in her neighbor, Ryder, a man she has never seen because of the wall between balconies

I have just recently found Sydney and her Pendragon Gargoyles series and I must say. I'm glad I did. I haven't really read any shapeshifter books before but if they're like this, I'll be reading tons more.

In this installment we meet Corrine Lawson and Ryker McKinnon. Ryker, the hot, alpha Gargoyle who's not only man but wolf, is set on getting revenge for the killing of his sister and nephews. When he finds out that Cori can lead him to their killer he sets his plan in motion for the showdown. C

This book is a paranormal romance. It involves gargoyles, which are shape shifters from King Arthur's Avalon. They vary from Wolves to Dragons to Panthers. Are you following me? It is a very out there idea and when mixed with Arthurian legend it can get a little convoluted. Even so, I found myself enjoying it very much, when after the very beginning I ddin't think I would.

It's not the kind of book that you obsess over every detail nor is it very literary, but it isn't meant to be! It is a fun, s

Primal Instinct is the prequel to Sydney Somer's Pendragon Gargoyles Series. I've already read Books 1-3 before I read this one. I enjoyed this book but I had an advantage of already understanding the background. I'm not sure how easy it would be to pick up on everything if this is the first book in the series that you read.

In this series Avalon is real but separated from the mortal realm by a magic mist. Once Arthur was killed his loyal servants were cursed to be gargoyles (stone half the time

I picked this up at the same time as a whole stack of free e-books. Most of them were average at best but I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I haven't read any of Sydney Somers' books before and I'm definitely interested now.

Sydney Somers new novel Primal Instinct is a prequel to her Pendragon series. It’s romantic, funny, sometimes tragic and full of action. It’s a paranormal romance, featuring immortal shifters with ties to King Arthur’s fabled Avalon .

Gargoyles! Didn't see that coming! The story is refreshingly new with shifters and their ties to Arthur and Camelot. The pace of the story is pretty fast though there is not a lot of suspense and we already know who the bad guy is...Corrine's father. There is action, shifting, turning to stone and romance. A few visits from the ...more

I have read all of the books in this series and I was shocked to see I missed one in the collection as well as it being a prequel. I really enjoyed the story of Cori and Ryker.
