Jaine Austen's Writing Job has been next to nothing and her bank account doesnt look much better either. So when Patti Marshall wants to meet with her about writing her wedding vows, Jaine is hesitant, she remembers how nasty Patti was to her in high school. But when Patti offers Jaine three thousand dollars to do it, she reluctantly says Yes.

Jaine Austen’s career as a writer hasn’t been so fluid. Best known for a plumbing company ad, Jaine is surprised when her former high school nemesis Patti Marshall asks her to write a balcony scene for her wedding ceremony. When Patti tells Jaine she wants the lines to be a mix between Romeo and Juliet and Friends, Jaine wants to turn down the job but she needs the money. Jaine is hopeful Patti has matured from the bully she was in high school, but that’s not the case. Patti turns out to be the...more
"Fun and Frivolous" was my description of "Killer Cruise," my first foray into the slightly wacky world of Jaine Austen, writer of advertising copy for the plumbing world and part-time amateur sleuth. The description holds.
In this installment, Jaine agrees (only because she desperately needs the money) to write wedding vows for Patti Marshall, one of those popular girls who make high school a "blistering nook of inferno Dante neglected to mention" for everyone outside of her little clique. Twent...more

Laura Levine writes the Jaine Austen mystery series featuring writer for hire, Jaine Austen. She does ads, resumes and whatever else comes her way to make ends meet in Hollywood. Levine herself is a former comedy writer and it shows in the timing and style of the humor of her books. Here she gets to mine the humor of the painful high school years when Jaine is called by her personal HS nightmare, Patti Devane, and offered a very badly need $3,000 for writing her wedding vows – a rewrite of the b...more
I've been a fan of the Jaine Austen Mysteries since I read the first book in the series. They are funny and light, but centre around a murder that Jaine finds herself in the middle of.
This time Jaine is caught in the middle of the murder of the most popular girl that she went to high school with. Patti hasn't changed since high school. She's still pretty, mean and there are plenty of people that want to kill her. It's up to Jaine to figure out just who wanted Patti killed the most.

I didn't really like this one as much as some of the others. The plot was good enough, who doesn't want to kill a Bridezilla? But I felt like the author was trying to hard to make it funny to, and just threw in a bunch of random stuff that happens to Jaine that I feel would probably never really happen.

Out of the blue, Jaine gets a call from her former high school tormentor - Patti. She wants Jaine to write her wedding vows for her. Well, Jaine needs the money, how bad can it be? Turns out Patti is just as mean and cruel as she was in high school. She is the bridezilla from Hell and she actually HIRES a model as a bridesmaid because her "friend" didnt lose the weight she wanted. The list of people who hate her is long and when she is murdered during the wedding, the suspect list is long.

Killing Bridezilla is the 7th book in Levine's Jane Austen Mysteries. Not having read any of her previous work I was worried that I would be lost without any character back stories however, this was not the case with Killing Bridezilla.
The story kicks off with writer-for-hire Jaine Austen lamenting her dwindling bank account and growing credit card bills when she accepts a new gig writing wedding vows for her one-time high school enemy, the ultra-rich and spoiled Patti Devane. Patti's three thou...more

annoying main character talks to reader and not in a really likeable way. basically yapping about what food she was currently shoveling down her throat. or the disgusting names of the cat food she was feeding her cat Prozac. the characters are unrealistic, unlikeable. this was a mindless read , and although i didn't figure out who the killer was, it was my idea of a light and fluffy "mystery" for non mystery readers. Me, I like some actual meat on my mysteries.
This is the first book I read by Laura Levine. Cute, easy, fun, fast and made me laugh a few times. The problem is, when I opened the second book it was exactly the same. I mean seriously, if you are fortunate enough to have one hilarious toupee debacle in your life, you are fortunate, this character has two in as many books. I don't regret reading them, but I doubt I will get more.
This was the first book by this author that I read. I was unaware that this was book 7 in a series, and it does stand alone. I may sound a bit morbid, but this book as one of the greatest "death" scenes I have ever read. The book is what I would call a "light" mystery, but I'm ok with that as it still had a fair share of twists and turns. I will most willingly read another book by the author.
I found a new murder mysteries series that I love. Of course, I picked this book up randomly, amused by the title. I never expected to find another series and a character to adore. I'm off to read my next one - don't bother me!

Fun read...makes you laugh. Don't read this looking for a "good" book...but if you need a laugh, this will do it!
Poor Jaine. She’s so damn hapless all the time. Just once I’d like to see something work out for her. It’s like witnessing Stephanie Plum on her worst day. Times ten. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy these books, but I just cringe whenever Jaine embarks on a grand plan, because I know something awful’s going to happen.
