with each subsequent book, oregon author matt love refines his craft ever more fully - honing an innate storytelling talent and developing his command of language and rhythm. rose city heist, a work quite unlike any of its predecessors, may well be his finest outing yet (it's certainly his most spectacular). with his trademark wit, iconoclasm, and fervent rock and roll sensibilities, love unfurls the true tale of his involvement in the biggest jewelry theft in portland history.

“A wild ride ushered to your brain by pages filled with honest content.” –Yours Truly

I think the above statement is the most concise way to describe the Rose City Heist: A True Crime Portland Tale of Sex, Gravy, Jewelry and Almost Rock and Roll. Matt Love delivers a Portland scene before the vogue breweries and collective beating hipster hearts we now know and love about Portland, Oregon. The Portland Love dishes us for a fun-filled brain meal is almost arcane today. But, fear not, Matt delivers

Are you impressed that I got the Rajneesh reference without having to Google it?

"Cunnilingus Coach" is my new band name.

I did enjoy reading this book, after having seen Mr. Love present it at my library. I do wish there was more content, this was almost like a short story presented in book form. I realize the author has other memoirs related to different parts of his life, and there was a reason this book could not be published until now, but I think this would be more satisfying as part of a lo

Matt Love spins a good yarn and the book is a fun, quick read. Two annoyances:

(1) The book is relentlessly teased as a "confession" that can now be published only because the statute of limitations of the crime has run out. Was Matt Love really a jewel thief (as well as a social studies teacher)? Does he know where half a million dollars of jewelry is still buried in a vacant lot? Spoiler Alert: No. But the story itself is entertaining and well told.

(2) In decrying today's "Portlandia" and lame

I was surprised by how little plot there was in this book. In hindsight, not that surprising since the story was told from the perspective of a person who didn't really know what happened. Enjoyed the Portland descriptions (past and present), but a bit tired of books that romanticize hanging out in bad bars and getting drunk all the time as if that was a good thing.

It was okay
Being a native Portlander, the references to some of our city landmarks was so so, but I do not think Matt Love really captures the spirit of most of the Portlanders I know.
Great to read a story set in Portland, too leftist for me.

Probably a bit more, but I'm against star inflation...

I'd caution Matt to watch out for non-Christian families homeschooling in the real world. They often make a lot of noise!
