This is the third story in the Botanicaust series (a short story, Taking the Knife" is also available, placed between the two existing novels), a novella that takes a much deeper look at a scene from the first book, Botanicaust. This "retake" as it were is skilfully done, so despite already knowing ho

After I finished Botanicaust and read the 'Secret Page', I fell a little bit in love with Michael's innocence. So I was absolutely delighted when I realized that this was his story, and it all tied in in a neat little package. =)
The abuse that Michael takes not only from his Father, but from the guard, left me sad but more angry really. I have no use for people like that, so when Michael finds his courage and stands up for what he believes is right I was doing cartwheels in my head. He finds out

Imaginative and passionate, Tam Linsey delivers a classic post-post apocalyptic Earth, where a few live within shelter, growing food and safely having children. Except that the children are damaged. And their parents prey on the other group of humans left in the world.

Michael, mentally challenged by what I take to be Down Syndrome, must overcome, both his own limitations and his fear of his father, in order to champion those he realizes have been milked of life so that the humans like his father

This book didn't seem sustainable at first. It's written from the point of view of Michael, who apparently has Down Syndrome and the story is told in a rather simplistic manner. However, it ended up working well and was a good story overall. I didn't realize there were other books before this one, so I'll have to go back and read them, but this stands alone quite well and is very enjoyable and interesting, despite the method of storytelling.
