I love, love, love this book for older siblings welcoming a new baby. We checked out so many books about preparing for a new baby and a lot had a rather negative tone, as if to suggest the sibling would for sure resent the new baby and the noise/loss of attention/family change. Our copy of this is a board book and it's aimed at toddlers/preschool age kids - since our kids were all spaced less than 2 years apart it was perfect for our family dynamic. :) There are no words so it doesn't presum...more

This was one of my favorite books to "read" to Isaac when I was pregnant with Elise (and I never paid attention to the author at the time - so when I found it at the library today I had to jot it down and add it on goodreads). i like the pictures in this and its fellow series members, but i don't like that there were no words because i was forced to make up the story each time i read it and in my current state of fatigue and non-imagination-ness, i would rather not. i think elisa is just getting to the point where she will "read" a story to herself or her babies or anna so it might be more fun if she was making it up instead of me.

Jack Kirby and the X-man
A wordless picture book that tries to portray the impact a new baby will have on the first child.

There are scenes where the new baby is obviously dominating, with everyone giving presents and cooing. But there are also scenes where mum and dad get to spend some alone time reading to the older brother.

Also begins to introduce ideas like breastfeeding and baby-wearing which might concern the older brother.

A useful tool in the arsenal of those with "number...more

Recommends it for: expectant parents with a child/ren
The best thing about this book is that there are no words - so every time you sit down to read this, you & your child can talk about different things. The older sibling, the new baby, helping mommy & daddy, and so on...
