Backcut enthralls from the first explosive chapter and draws readers – both figuratively and literally – into the darkest of forests. Highly recommended. Environmental scientist Lisa Stone has just landed her dream job with Environ-Logging, one of the largest and greenest timber companies in the Pacific Northwest. She’s convinced that God has led her to take the position, which will be to help the company practice sustainable forest management. And yet from her very first day at the company, ...more

Disclaimer: I won a copy of this book through Goodreads Giveaways. What follows is my honest review.

I do apologize that it's taken me so long to finish writing my review. Thanks to the author for her patience and understanding!

The whole idea of critiquing or reviewing another writer's work, his/her labor of love, is a little daunting. Here goes...

Backcut by Cynthia Soule Levesque is a fast-paced Christian suspense novel that features two main storylines. The first involves our young and idealist

I couldn't do it. It's not possible. There was no way that I, an intelligent and avid reader, could finish this book. The only reason I made it past the first page was because our book club is trying to support a self published local author. The dialogue sounded so forced, as if written by a 5th grader. The main character, Lisa Stone, was perhaps the least interesting character in literature. She came into the book already finished, given no negative qualities and NO character development. She ...more

This is a departure from my normal type of reading - I would not have grabbed for it at a book store. First - my first love is a good historical novel - preferably American history. Second - I think I would put a tall majestic tree on the cover rather than this girl who (in my unprofessional opinion) looks like she is more interested in bedding a man than in worrying about what happens to God's great creation. But a friend suggested I read this book and I am glad I did.

It has a heavy dose of the

Backcut by Cynthia Soule Levesque is not a lighthearted easy read; instead you will find it to be a suspenseful, insightful and thought provoking adventure. It is filled with information about the logging industry and endangered species (frogs- for you frog lovers ) It was a very interesting storyline about an endangered species having a role in a new medicine for a terminal illness. There was a small romance with the hint of a love triangle. Mixed in with all of this was a Christian message.

Enjoyed the book far more than I expected, even though I knew I would like it. The characters were fun and interesting; they are not two dimensional which was wonderful. The subject matter was far more interesting than expected and had a few twist and turns that I wasn't expecting. This was a very quick read and didn't drop the ball. While the chapters seemed to blend into each other, as some were shorter than others and making the read smooth, it wasn't difficult to stop at any point and pick ...more

This debut novel by Cynthia Levesque has it all -- romance, intrigue, conflict, suspense ; interwoven with faith-based references and environmental issues. The author masterfully relates legal treatment of endangered and threatened species when managing forestlands while exposing the reader to the chilling finality of Niemann-Pick Type C disease. This is the book for those who not only enjoy a suspense novel with Christian Fiction tenants (no explicit sexual issues or bad grammar here) , but who ...more
