A solid start to the series, which I'm still unsure of how it will work out. While it's overall humorous, it has a really dark overtone--the main character can see spirits and the female lead is a witch. I wasn't really certain what this series would be like, since CLAMP's work can be anything from incredibly silly to very dark and serious (X/1999 is the obvious contender for their darkest series).

xxxHolic is an original manga with a bunch of great ideas. And Yûko is amazing. I thoroughly enjoy reading about her... antics, and I can't wait to read the sequels.
Oh, and if the title sounds or the covers look weird to you, don't let them scare you. I was a bit nervous about the series at first, since it kinda looked and sounded like it was a book about druggy people or something, but when I read about Yûko in Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, I really wanted to read more about her. I liked this book! I can tell it's going to be an interesting series! The artwork was beautifully detailed and enchanting, especially Yuuko's costumes. I like the instant chemistry between the characters. Yuuko seems quite shady, but not necessarily in a bad way, and Watanuki seems crabby - and not too bright, making such an open-ended deal with such a shady witch! I wonder if she'll ever let him work off his wish! The style was very straight forward, and at the same time quite cryptic, if tha

Watanuki gets mysteriously drawn to this shop. The owner Yuko tells him “hitsuzen - a naturally foreordained event, a state in which other outcomes are impossible, a result which can only be obtained by a single causality and other causalities would necessarily create different results” She also tells him that she grants wishes, for a price. He doesn’t want to believe, doesn’t want to be there, but there is a problem. He sees spirits, has all his life and he’s tired of it, so if there’s a chanc

Okay so right when I finished Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles last year I started to read xxxHolic, because characters from Tsubasa, and Holic would appear in both series. But anyways this series was way different from Tsubasa, it had more to do with the supernatural, and desires of people, aside from Tsubasa which was more about a group of people venturing different world in search of princess sakura’s memories that were scattered into feathers.

I bought this manga because I was read TRC first and they said that this book was the companion. At first, it's kinda hard for me to like this story because it's simpleness (that a word?). What made me keep going was the quotes Yuuko always said--stab me to heart like CLAMP always does. But then after volume 10, the pace changed, together with TRC plot on volume 15 who also get darker. The link between two stories getting tighter and TRC group keep mentioning by Yuuko, said that Watanuki's and T

I've always wanted to read a manga by CLAMP. If you read manga, you kind of need to read at least one series by CLAMP. Just because. I chose to read xXxHolic (pronounced simply as "holic"; the xXx stands for a variable or a blank in Japanese).
xXxHolic is absolutely stunning in its art. In fact, it's so gorgeous and intricately drawn that at times I felt overwhelmed by it. As the story developed, it showed that it was strong enough to handle such elaborate art, where both More...

this was exactly what I was expecting! God bless those girls from Clamp! They rock!! Fun, cute, simple! The Clamp chicks always do that! they just drop all the fantasy elements of the show in your face and you decide if you buying or not! And as usual I’m buying! this is about some kid who can see ghosts… (classic!) waling into a very special shop… a shop that sells wishes! But (you guessed) at a price! His wish is to stop seeing ghosts! And his price is cleaning! He has to clean for the shop ow

I've been a fan of CLAMP for a long time. I'm still hoping that they'll eventually finish off their series X (X 1999 in North America). I also really liked the Magic Knight Rayearth series.
This series comes across as a bit of an experiment. The artwork is a definitely change from most of their series, making me think that it's drawn by someone other than the group's primary artist.

Once I watched the Youtube video and figured out how to read Manga, I got the hang of it. The first couple of pages were slow going as I kept trying to read from left to right and forgot that I needed to hold the book backwards and upside down. I figured it out and enjoyed the book much more than I thought I would and certainly didn’t expect the book to have a moral.

"El estudio CLAMP, que como los aficionados al manga saben está compuesto por cuatro mujeres, se ha hecho indudablemente su hueco en el mercado del cómic japonés. Su fácilmente reconocible estilo y sus tramas encuadradas en el sh?jo (tipo de historias dirigidas principalmente al público joven femenino) han hecho las delicias de muchos lectores y han cosechado éxitos alrededor de todo el globo. Prueba de ello son las famosas series de Cardcaptor Sakura o Chobits que incluso se conocen entre

Watanuki is cursed to see the spirits that haunt the living world. He is constantly seeing things he doesn't want to and so when a spirit leads him to a mysterious shop where a beautiful woman tells him she will grant his greatest wish, he jumps at the chance. Yuko, a capitalistic mystic, won't do anything for free. She presses Watanuki into service to clean her house, cook her food, run her errands and so on. Working for a mystic can be an interesting experience when you can see spirits. W

i really liked this book. At first I thought it was blah and I wanted to put it aisde but then it got really exciting. I learned, well I feel that everything that we have ever experienced is hitsuzen. Hitsuzen is unchangable, fated destiny. The main character is Watnuki and he's an orphan who can see spirits, when he goes into Yuko's shop, she says she can grant his wish of never seeing spirits ever again. To pay for that, he ends up wotking for her, but he changes for the better. He meets new f

CLAMPS's crossover series with Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle. Holic is where many of the explanations for TRC are fleshed out, and while it's possible to read one without reading the other, they'll make more sense together.

Review by taylor93:
Himihiro watanuki makes the mistake of telling "yuko", the owner of a shop that grands wishes, so then she has hold on him. Watanuki askes for a wish, to not see or be followed by the spirits that he sees everyday, and inreturn Yuko requires servitude form Watanuki, so he becomes her slave and watches her grant wishes to other people.

Now that my son's older, his taste in reading is converging with mine (as is his taste in television and movies). One series he and I are both tearing through having watched the anime series together is xxxHolic by the mangaka group CLAMP.

This manga was really awesome. XXXHolic combines a witch, philosophy, a medium, some annoying children, and a bit of romance to create a fascinating storyline. Yuuko is really interesting because she is seemingly trying to help people by fulfilling wishes, but her methods seem pretty depraved. She is a complete seductress, I picture her having a husky voice, and everything from the artwork to the dialogue creates her vibrant character. Even though Yuuko works Watanuki like a slave, it is pre

Reread 2011. Volume 1: The stories are boring. The art is gorgeous. Shop owner and wish granter Yuuko bids fair to become one of my favorite characters--all sly smiles and mysterious eyes, elegant lines and glorious curves, part ukiyo-u and part Art Nouveau.

This is an interesting supernatural series with some Tsubasa crossover occasionally woven in. The plot is somewhat like Pet Shop of Horrors in that the magic shop draws a variety of unusual customers with a variety of serious problems and they rarely take the advice the witch gives them. The main character Watanuki looks a little like a tall, lanky Harry Potter, but his hot-tempered personality couldn't be more different. He has good reason for frustration however. Yuko, the powerful witch who o

Naturally a good supplement to Tsubasa, but definitely not as worth reading. It is a little too reminiscent of Legal Drug except minus the gay undertones (sadly) and with the addition of the overtly mysterious and well-endowed Yuko-san who does little to nothing to advance the series except leaving puffs of smoke around and hanging out in doorways with very little clothing on. More CLAMP re-hashing old Japanese folk tales in modern settings, except not as fulfilling as in their other works.
