in a sentence or so: a twenty year old skeleton surfaces at Wayne Manor wearing only a costume mask and bearing an invitation to a party hosted by Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Wayne.

Bruce Wayne took up the mantle of Batman and started his protection of the people of Gotham after his parents were murdered when he was a young boy. Bruce always believed his parents were genuine, helpful philanthropists who poured their hearts into Gotham and were committed to making it a better place for everyone. he has al...more

"You're awfully quiet," Gordon said.

"I've been told I brood."

Bruce Wayne’s last memory of his dying parents is his father reaching out for his mother, but was there something more to that final gesture? When construction workers at Wayne Manor uncover the corpse of a long-missing woman, suspicion falls on Dr. Thomas Wayne, father of the Batman. It’s a case that hits Batman at home, but he’ll pursue it to the end -- even if it means condemning his deceased father.

Things I loved about this book:
1) It's Batman! Love everything about this cool superhero, without any super powers! Love him putting his detective skills at work!
2) It's an interactive crime story! In this story you get a chance to play detective as well! Complete with clues in envelopes and access to the Bat Computer (sealed pages towards the end of the book wherein the solution to the crime is revealed).
3) Finally, it was nice to get a glimpse of the Wayne's life and how they brought up young...more

I am a fairly passive Batman fan. I read many of the comics as a child and I still enjoy the modern revisionism whenever it comes across my lap.

This book is a bit unusual in that it is not a comic book but it is instead a mystery built as an interactive adventure. Many of the clues that Batman finds are in sleeves within the book and instead of reading about how The Detective would examine a clue I got to do so myself. Fun! Clearly a lot of effort and polish went into the publication of this uno...more

I like Batman, and I like mysteries, and I like interactive books, so I thought I'd give this a try. My fear, though, was that it would be targeted to a younger audience. It wasn't really, but while it was kind of fun, I don't think it was a complete success. First off, I felt like you should have all the information that Batman has, to see if you could solve the mystery at the same time he does. But as it turns out, it is written in such a way that at least one key piece of information is left...more

My Batman-buddy and I found this online and decided "By God, we have to have it!" She ordered it off Amazon and kept it safe until I came home for the holidays. So we spent a night with pie and Batman reading this ridiculously fun murder mystery that we had to solve. It was great fun to look at all the clues and read the out loud in our best attempts of "GRAVELY AND GROWLY BATMAN VOICE" and "I AM ALFRED PENNYWORTH AND I REALLY AM THE BEST CHARACTER IN THE ENTIRE BATMAN MYTHOLOGY".

Batman is one of the three oldest comic-book superheroes still running (2009 will be his 70th anniverary). But there's arguably more than one Batman. The original was a dark and weird avenger of the night who (at first) wasn't above using a gun. Later, he was softened, in part by acquiring a brightly garbed and light-hearted ward and sidekick. Decades later, batman became a warm-hearted and even friendly authority who entered into downright-goofy adventures. By the early 1970s, the pendulum had...more

This book is SO MUCH FUN because it's interactive and has pull out magazine clippings and photographs and stuff so you can help solve the mystery with Batman. I'm a sucker for this kind of thing so I loved it and the pictures are beauuuuuutiful. Did it change my life? haha no! Was I even close to solving the mystery? haha noooooo and that seems to be the biggest complaint when I read other reviews...that it's too difficult to solve. But the story is fun and I wasn't trying too hard to solve it a...more

A compelling "game" of whodunnit in the classic Noir-esque style. Get into the shoes of Batman as you delve into the mystery death at Wayne Manor. I followed through the book (complete with tactile pockets and envelopes and knick-knacks—clues, I mean) with girlish wonder and ease. It's diverting the first time but would probably be a bit of a downer after that.

This is a short Batman prose mystery, which includes several inserts that are supposed to serve as clues to help you solve the mystery along with Bruce. It's very nicely designed and has some very good illustartions. I felt a little cheated, though, because the reader isn't provided with all of the information that Batman has.
lisa
eh. this was alright, although i wasn't terribly impressed by the mystery or batman's ability to solve it. like the other one i read, the tone/language was a little odd and didn't really feel appropriate for any particular age group, although there weren't any sex toy brochures so it wasn't AS bad.

A neat intro for someone new to Batmythology. Lots of in-jokes. It almost works like an Ology book since there are little pockets where you pull out letters and other stuff. Bat-experts will probably be bored. But it's a nice novelty item--and a good way to kill an hour and a half.

It's a fun read, and entertaining to look at all the clues and decipher them. Even if you're not familiar with the Batman mythos, the mystery is quite crackable. If you are, though, it's a no-brainer once you see some characters appear.
Stephanie
Such a cool concept...it's a murder mystery with the clues included in the book. Also got me into Batman more so I'll be adding those comics/graphic novels to my list.
Jeff
This is a great Batman story will all the classic elements. It's written in prose with several illustrations and lot of interactive clues. It's pretty straight forward and written for most age groups.
Boyd
This is a fun read if you are a fan of Batman, you learn a little about his past, and you solve a mystery. What more could you want.
Lisa
As a Batman story, it's okay, but the mystery is a no-brainer. And it's told in first-person, which my writer husband says is a cop out.
Elin
Great fun! I liked how it was written, a bit noir over it all.
Ozzy
I liked the mystery but a couple of the attached clues are sadly inconsistent w/ the final solution. Also if the clues were consistent this mystery would have been to easy to solve. Still, I had fun going through it.
Cindy
It was great. You get the evidence and figure out who did it before reading the final chapter, where the truth is revealed.
Emily
As an interactive mystery it was pretty easy to solve, but the process was well done. The inserts and "clues" given in all the pockets throughout definitely made it more interesting. I also liked what was done with the characters throughout. I don't need to keep it on my shelf to read again, and it's not necessary to the main Batman universe, but it's a great novelty item to have on a shelf if you're a fan of the caped crusader.
Kristen
I really enjoyed reading this book. I'm a big fan of Batman, but I loved all of the pieces to look at while reading through this mystery.

!@Holy Props, Batman*%$
I got to touch all of the evidence for myself in this crime mystery.

And

#$@Zapp..POW*$@#
I was fighting and detecting as any righteous sidekick should.

But

$#%^DRAT!!$#@!
I didn’t solve the mystery. (Think the Cluemaster shielded a clue.)

Good Bruce Wayne background. Well-mannered storyline. Fun playtime.
William Thomas
Definitely one of the most fun books ever published- an interactive murder mystery that included pieces of evidence in envelopes every so many pages that you could actaull take out, like a beer coaster with a note on it, a coroners report, a letter from Dr. Wayne. However it was not the most exciting writing.
Michael
Pretty good!
