Gillian Chang is an awesome person. She is brilliant in schoolwork, gifted in music, and totally in love with God. People love her for her outgoing and tell-it-like-it-is personality. When Lucas Hayes, the smartest guy in the school, takes an interest in her, Gillian is love struck. But the more time she spends with Lucas, the more she realizes that she doesn’t measure up. Determined to be everything Lucas needs in a girlfriend, Gillian starts to make changes. When her friends call her on it, sh...more
I'm still not liking the "it's all about us" premise, which is repeated throughout the book, using those exact words. I get it--that's what the series is called. Move on. Now that I've got my obligatory complaining about YA novels out of the way (I don't know why I do it), I will say that I thought this was a well written book.
The main character was a little hard to like at times, and I kept wondering why these teens in these novels are always so stupid. Why can't they see what everybody else se...more

Christmas break is over and we are back at Spencer Academy with Lissa, Gillian, Carly, and Shani. Since Lissa was able to tell her story about Callum in It's All About Us (and Carly will share her story in book 3 - Be Strong and Curvaceous) it is Gillian's turn to come clean about her infatuation with Lucas Hayes - the smartest guy at Spencer Academy.

THE FRUIT OF MY LIPSTICK introduces the reader to Gillian Chang. For those that have read IT'S ALL ABOUT US, you will recall that Gillian is the outspoken Christian roommate of Lissa Mansfield. This is Gillian's story.
Gillian is by far the most verbal of her group of friends. She speaks honestly and openly about matters that are dear to her. That would be her family, her studies, her friends, and her faith. But when Lucas Hayes, most likely the smartest bo...more

Normally, all that Gillian Chang has to worry about is making sure her grades are absolutely perfect. This generally isn’t a problem because Gillian is extremely intelligent, but pressure from her strict parents can get a little tough at times. The last thing Gillian wants to worry about is a guy, particularly after the fiasco Gillian’s best friend Lissa got involved with last term. But then again, love, or at least like, is not something Gillian can prepare for—especially when she finds herself...more
This was cute, but not my favorite in the series. The story was a little too obvious, even for me. And the assult/abusive boyfriend could have been played out a bit more to really show girls how easy it is to get in that situation, how to recognize it, and how to get out. And the importance of going to the authorities or a trusted adult.
This is the 2nd book in a young adult Christian novel series. The 4 group of girl friends go to a posh boarding school called Spencer Academy in Cali. Each book has one of the girls narrate and it deals with a struggle they go through as teenage girls living in a non-Christian environment. Love these books because they are wholesome and entertaining.
now about the series:
ohmygosh! this is one of the best chicklit series I've read in a while. it has real life problems and temptations and even forgiving friends when they royally screw up.

Award-winning author Shelley Adina wrote her first teen novel when she was 13. It was rejected by the literary publisher to whom she sent it, but he did say she knew how to tell a story. That was enough to keep her going through the rest of her adolescence, a career, a move to another country, a B.A. in Literature, an M.F.A. in Writing Popular Fiction, and countless manuscript pages. Shelley is a...more
