This was the 4th book by Shane I have read. The story centers around a woman named Cecilia. Who's job as a Doula is to help the parents get thru the birthing of their child. As the story goes on we find out that Cecilia is divorced. The reason for this is he wanted to have children and she wasn't able to. Then one day her boss(Judy)tells her that there is a way she can have a child. This is where the Fairy comes into the story. Fairy was a quick okay read. This was my least favorite book of ...more

[Full disclosure: I received a free ebook through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.]

I know the blurb sounds like it belongs to a crappy erotic novel, but I swear to you that this is straight up horror. It’s actually quite terrifying.

I don’t find Cecilia incredibly sympathetic but she is interesting and held my attention. She’s so desperate for a baby that she’s willing to try anything and she’s especially tortured by seeing new life come into the world as a midwife. It’s hard for her,

I hadn't read anything of Shane's yet, as I don't read bizarro horror generally. When I saw he was releasing the short story or novella FAIRY, and I read the synopsis and knew it was different type of story, I knew I had to pre-read it for review. I love dark fairy tales in the vein of the the Grimm Brother's but set in the modern time with today's issues. I'm sure the fairy was pretty ancient though. The whole "my baby is evil" and "I can't have a baby so I'll do anything to get one" type of ...more

Shane McKenzie, a relative newcomer, brings something to the table that I don’t think I’ve really read before. Rooted in fairy tale tropes, he takes those, and turns them completely upside down. And then turns them inside out.

Everyone knows about the Tooth Fairy, but they probably haven’t heard about the Baby Fairy. If I had to guess, you probably wouldn’t want to either.

The story is wholly original, and completely disturbing. However, Cecilia is a sympathetic character and Shane makes sure that

Fairy is about a single woman, Cecilia, who cannot get pregnant. She has tried everything modern medicine can offer. But she isn’t willing to stop trying. Adoption and surrogacy are out of the question for her. She is willing to do absolutely anything to have a baby of her own; even if it means bedding a dark, ancient being.

Fairy is a short novella; even shorter than it first appeared. I was very disappointed when I found myself reading a never-ending introduction, by someone completely irreleva

This is the story of Cecelia. She works as a Doula, assisting women at the birth of their children. Her greatest wish is to have a child of her own, but she is unable to conceive. Having exhausted all conventional methods, her boss and close friend Judy, gives her another option. Sadly it comes with consequences.....

I loved this novella. I love this type of genre, it is my guilty pleasure and I read this in one sitting. This took me to places I wasn't expecting it to, and back again. The idea it

Cecilia is a desperate Midwife who would do anything for a baby of her own. Everyday is tormented by having to deliver other people’s babies, while knowing she will never feel life kick from inside her. To make matters worse, her husband Frank has left her some time ago and is left with the lonely option of IV treatment from a donor.

Her desperation quickly unhinged her and she tries to summon a Fairy to impregnate her.

This novella was truly macabre, and is definitely shows that Fairies aren’t th

I received this book free to review from Netgalley. I did not like it. It is horror genre and contains a lot of foul language - even one of the children used foul language and it also has a few editing errors. I think that part of the problem may be that the author is a man and he is telling the story from the POV of the main character who is a woman and it just does not work. The best thing about it is that it is very short.

this is the first book by Shane McKenzie that I've read. A really great idea at work here. There are plenty of women faced with Cecilia's problem every day. this was a interesting and really frightening way to handle the issue. I applaud Shane for following his creepy mind down this avenue and taking us with him. I would have liked a little more on the back end of story, but it was a good read.

I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. First off this is not your typical fairy tale. This is dark and sinister. It is also a very quick read. It was just okay for me. Not much character development and you never know much about the Fairy. It was different but other than that nothing special.

Not like shane

The story was really drab and slow. There really wasn't much action or pull to the story no gore no aggression. From the author of don't bleed on me and other high class gore horror this was like a cheap fire side horror story. I'm disappointed
