Just read this book this morning to my 6 year old. The story is about a girl who has just moved into a new apartment and shares a room with her tidy sister. Marta collects things and so her side of the room is messy. Summary:
Marta has not made any friends, but she loves collecting things. One day she came outside to play with her magnets and had to use one to get someones key out of the drain. The children swarm her and become friends.

Reflection: Great use of being passionate about science. Author does a great job of incorporating a lot of different pieces from hobbies, to making friends, to science.

Themes/connections:
science, magnets, friends, hobbies

I actually found this book while doing a science unit for another class. It is great because it deals with science, magnets, and relationships. Marta uses her magnets to make friends and help her sister's friend retrieve a key she lost. I would use this when doind a unit on magnets or any other science area.
