people feeling just a little bit cynical about love
Beigbeder's novel is about a naughty playboy who cheats on his wife, is rejected by his mistress, and finds little solace in the (group) sex, (party) drugs, and techno music of his incredibly hip Parisian crowd. Quel dommage, baby. This barely fictionalized hero would be reason enough to toss the book with great vigour at the nearest Eurotrash electro DJ, except for one problem: Beigbeder can write.

El libro empieza muy bien. Parece que a a ser una crítica cínica, divertida, contada desde el punto de vista masculina, de las relaciones amorosas... la primera parte incluso es eso, está bien. Pero luego acaba siendo la historia de un divorcio y de un posterior enamoramiento no correspondido primero, y del tipo "amor verdadero" después por parte del autor. Esta parte es muchíssssimo más aburrida y sin ninguna aportación relevante.

this guy knows his way with words, and he's not afraid of using them! as usual, he reflects on social events in everyone's life almost (here it's about a jet set guy who gets a divorce...), with his humor and take on it, and you almost think you are reading a diary!

This book had me cracking up laughing at times, and too often I also wanted to put the book down because the main character was so jaded he turned me off. But I suppose you take it for what it is...entertainment...and few books actually manage to make me laugh out loud.

das buch, das ich in drei jahren begonnen hätte zu schreiben, obwohl ich das ende zu versöhnlich finde und es als pure fiktion betrachte, trotz allem aber eine sehr kurzweilige lektüre für herbstliche nachmittage auf einer parkbank!

my first book by Frederic Beigbeder, a famous jetsetter.
Loved the style and the story (auto-bio??) of this poor rich lazy guy who ends up with standard couple problems... his view of marriage is quite acurate and right... to me ;-)
