This book was recommended to me by Angela Jackson, who wrote the introduction. The poems are evidence of Carolyn Rodgers versatility and creativity as a poet, her strength and wisdom as a Black woman, and her heart and soul as a human being. Many times I had to stop reading to start writing because her subject matter woke a personal memory. Many times I had to read the same poem over and over because I was struck by the truth of the words and the grace of her craft.
