The title The Reiki Magic Guide to Self-Attunement is a bit of a misnomer. First off, Reiki is not magic in the normally thought of sense. Reiki is merely universal life energy/ unconditional love. Moreover, the author does not teach the reader how to become attuned to Reiki. Instead, the book includes instructions on how to call down the three traditional levels of attunement and a variety of other symbols used by the author.

I'm just beginning my journey into Reiki. This book has some very good background information. If you are interested in Reiki, this is a good place to start. However, based on the experiences of my own journey, I really feel books can't replace the actual person to person contact when you are first learning. I feel a person starting out needs a good mentor they know and trust. This book will help augment that experience.
Interesting, an alternate school of though of the 2 already existing and established schools of Reiki.
I really tried to finish this book, but I could not bring myself to do so when I felt he (the author) took the commitment and effort that takes to learn and practice 'Reiki' way too lightly.
Reiki takes discipline, dedication, and work; it is not metaphysical-pop, and it cannot be learned from odd little rituals in a book. There's no magic but energy workings in it.
I was sorely disappointed.

The author provides an easy to read and simple explanations on each of the exercises at Levels 1, 2 and 3 of Reiki. The book shows an alternative method of learning Reiki, as the traditional method tends to be elitist. Mr. Bevell recommends "Essential Reiki" by Diane Stein as a book to assist the student in their study of Reiki and its many uses to heal not only the body but the spirit as well.
