4 and 1/2 Stars - Old New Orleans and the Pirate Jean Laffite in the time of the War of 1812

This is a wonderful novel from a winner of the Romantic Time Lifetime Achievement Award.

Set in New Orleans and environs beginning in 1811, this is the story of Nicolette Vernet, a beautiful Creole girl, who falls in love with Jean Laffite, the gentleman pirate. I thought it was very brave of Weyrich to choose a real person for her hero, but she did it well and the story is absorbing.

There are several things which pull me to a book. Beautiful cover, enticing blurb and a title that means something, and not just about anything – for example being named according to the number of books in a series. Tainted Lilies by Becky Lee Weyrich falls into the last and third category, and I was not a bit surprised to discover that it was first published on April 12th 1984 by Fawcett as I was not at all familiar with the author.
