I usually don't buy books at readings. One, they're expensive. Two, you can never tell how a text will hold up without the smoky baritone of the author warming each syllable. I made an exception for Eric Pankey, mostly because fourteen bucks for three hundred pages was a better deal than the usual twenty for scant seventy, half of which I'd just had read to me. That and I liked his style.
