This was a ok read that got better as it went a long. At first, I was getting a little annoyed with it because there was a lot of repetitive passages as it went between our hero, Cameron McAlpin's POV to our heroine, Avery Murray's POV. It got to the point where I felt easy enough with it that I could skim passages because it was a complete regurgitation of what happened pages before but now speculated from the other side.

But then, as the book finally moved along from the shores of France and to...more

Cameron MacAlpin is on his way home. He has received a message that his beloved sister has been raped and is now pregnant by Payton Murray. Before he leaves France he is given two young women to settle a gambling debt. Fortune has truly smiled on him and one of those women is Avery Murray, the sister of the hated Payton. Now he knows how to get revenge.

Avery and Cameron are both loyal to their families, but they cannot help falling in love with each other.

What is the truth about Payton? Avery sw...more

I didn't like this one as much as the others in the series but it was still good. It's hard falling in love with some couples and in only a few books you are reading about their children find and falling in love. Nigel and Giselle as grandparents? Very hard to wrap my head around. Avery and Gilly were hillarious together, and their sharp tongues left a modern woman proud. I was annoyed that Cameron couldn't see how what he was doing was the same thing he accused Payton of doing but it all works...more

What a wonderful read. I Love when it is based and where it is based.
The Charters were wonderful. Avery is the payment for a debt and her cousin as well. Cameron MacAlpin is the one the debt is owed. He is not sure what to do with the young woman at his feet. Soon after he finds out who she is; He might know then ~wink~ not going to tell you. That would not leave you anything to read.
I recommend this book that is for sure. I love how Hannah Howell writes this story!!

I must admit I am truly enjoying this series! And this book is no exception. Yeah, it's a historical romance, and yeah, it did have a HEA; however, it also was a good story w/ memeorable and relateable characters. I especially liked Avery's character, and watching her ensnare Cameron. I must add that I liked the author's use of humor, and appreciated the few plot twists and turns. I can not wait to read the next book in this series. Oh...and I would recommend this book, and the others to fans of...more

Normally, with a story that appeals this much to the emotions, and have a ripping good adventure (running away from bad guys, at least through the first half of the book) I'd have to give it at least 4 stars. Few books get me so caught up that I stay up all night to finish.

But this one lost AT LEAST a star because I thoroughly disliked the hero for a good part of the book, and it darned near lost another star because the logic behind both main characters' choices through much of the book just k...more

I find that a woman who can clock a big oaf on the head or kick him in the face is well worth the passion and love shared in the story. The chase was funny, but the denial of the heart just drew you in. Avery was feisty and followed her heart whether it was with her fist or her body. Cameron denied his heart, but once he realized his heart was breaking without his soul who is Avery he fought with the truth of his heart to get her back. Even though Payton had a small part in this book he still st...more

Avery and her young cousin Gillyann are bartered to the McAlpins to repay a debt. Cameron is ecstatic when he realises that Avery is the sister of the man who alledgedly raped Cameron's sister and left her pregnant. As they travel from France to Scotland where Cameron intends to exchange Avery and her cousin in return to for Avery's brother marrying the sister. During the journey, passion runs high on both end and Avery falls in love with Cameron. Loved the story, loved the dark not so much broo...more

one of the first Hannah Howell books ive ever read.. I really enjoyed this book and love reading all about the Murry family.. I fell in love with Avery, Gillyann, and Payton in this story.. Cameron as well.. happy tht everything was settled with Camerons sister and Payton, so happy he didn't have to marry her..

Was a sinfully Delicious book. After receiving word that his sister was a victim of rape Cameron MacAlpin is headed her way with revenge on his mind. As luck would have it the best leverage that he could hope for was thrown into his tent. Lady Avery Murray was kidnapped after her family was brutally attached and she fled with her cousin it tow. Little did she know she was about to be sold to pay a debt. Cameron decides that he will do to her what has been done to his sister, take her virginity a...more

I read all of Ms Howell's books Back to Back to Back.. while this is a fun series I seriously do not recommend anyone doing so. The plots tend to be repetitious and run together. If you want to enjoy the Murray Clan, take your time.. there is much to enjoy just one at a time.

This reads as if it were written by an author who has a computer program which switches English words, such as father, with who knows what language that says fither. Howell only has about 10 - 15 of these words, but manages to use them all on every page. Very distracting.

Good book....might have been even better had we *seen* Katherine get her comeuppance...I wouldve liked to know more about the in-laws and how she was being treated at her new home. Moving on to more Howell books....

This is a re-read for me, probably my 10th time. Truly love this story, the characters are favorites of mine and make you want to find others to stay connected to this family

This is the first HH book I ever read. I think I was a bit shocked by it for... various reasons. The only book I ever read that made me blush, sitting alone, just reading it.

I read this book before I even knew it was a series had to back track to the first 4 books of the series. I love the stories of the Murray clan

Avery and her cousin Gillyanne are captured in a raid and deposited at the feet of Cameron MacAlpin, who sees this as a way to avenge his sister who claims to have been raped and impregnated by Avery's brother. But as he continues his plan to seduce her, he doesn't count on falling in love.

This was another good installment of the Murray series, and it never gets uncomfortable or humiliating as sometimes the captor/captive stories can be. Avery and Gillyanne are fun heroines and I love how they a...more

Cameron MacAlpin is given the means to force the man who raped his sister to do right by her. Avery Murray knows her brother, Payton, and is positive he is not capable of the lies Cameron claims his sister states. Plus, with a family member having suffered a rape, she knows her brother could never inflict that pain on to any woman.

But Cameron must follow the course he has set forth. He will seduce Avery and cast her aside, after forcing her brother to marry his sister. Of couse, the best laid p...more

I enjoyed this book. Typical romance with a Scottish slant. But they are quick reads.

A little formulaic, but now I want to know more about this Highland clan. 1/8/11

1/14/13 Second time reading this book, but in context with the rest of the series. More enjoyable when having some framework for the story. Avery and her cousin, Gilly, get caught in a conflict in France and captured. Dropped at the feet of a mercenary Scottish knight in payment of a debt,...you guessed it. How clever you are.

A good story. What Howell bring to these somewhat predictable historical romances is some t...more

The best novel in the Murray family line so far. It is a little unclear just how Cameron thinks he can seduce Avery and then not have that ruin her life even though both of them are aware that that would ruin almost any chance for Avery to be married. It is also a little confusing how, within the space of a week, Avery decides that she is in love with Cameron; it must be a Murray thing. The supporting characters in this novel are really good, particularly Gillyanne and Leargan. Gillyanne gets he...more

I love the way the books carry on the family stories and are all woven together but can be read alone and still make sense.
