Crashing Waves is the first book in the Girl form Ortec novella trilogy by Amy Richie. It features Rani, and young girl in a dystopian time who really has about the worst luck a girl can have. Widowed, orphaned, raped, and servitude – it’s hard to find the silver lining to her life. But what Rani has is a resilient nature and a good friend. Sometimes that’s all it takes to keep your head up.

Loved this story! Very different and interesting! The world the author created will pull you into the story right away. All the characters are very likable even Shona who was the one pregnant not so very nice lady, but underneath what she showed you could see the nice person. Even though Rani is super young and shy she was also strong when it came down to it, she did what needed to be done to keep herself and the baby alive. I really liked how the author ended the story and would love to

Great Dystopian book! A very strange future where almost all the world is water, and people do strange things to survive. Reads very quickly. Found myself reading in a rush to find out what was going to happen as the story slowly unfolds and weaves itself together. Rani is a very young and very naive girl who was married off at an even younger age to the very mean and feared sheriff of Ortec. Until the pirates came....the night that changed everything forever. Follow Rani through a sad and ...more

Crashing Waves is book 1 in The Girl from Ortec by Amy Richie. Taking place sixty years after the great wave has left most of the world under water we meet Rani living on an island in Ortec. If it weren’t for bad luck, Rani would have none. Despite living a hard life, being married to the meanest man ever, being raped and lastly living her life in servitude, Rani has a resilient spirit. In the face of so much adversity, she remains steadfast and determined to have and raise her baby. In Rani, ...more

I enjoyed reading Crashing Waves, but it wasn't what I expected. I was a quick read, but not action packed. This is a book a girl would relate to much more than a boy. There is the concepts of rape, child birth, forced marriage that boys could not understand. The end is open ended and I would love to read what happens to the main characters in the next book. If you are looking for a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat, this isn't it. If you are looking for a book that will make you ...more

Amy Richie’s “Crashing Waves” is an alternative future world short story. Very interesting – kind of a cocktail of the best elements from Waterworld, Hunger Games, and a few other tales. The character development is excellent. I love the vision for society and the rules. I’d like to see where she goes next with this and also to read a prequel to see what happened just before this story. Very powerful little tidbit.

When I first picked this up, I wasn't sure what to expect or if I would like it. It actually turned out to be a very enjoyable and fast read. The main character is Rani, a teen living in an odd world over run by water who is forced to make a very hard decision. It is more a thought provoking story rather than an action packed thriller. It is a very original idea and I am looking forward to learning more about Rani and her world.

Rani is a strong girl even in an oppressed society. This author did a great job of describing internally how Rani felt, and externally how others saw her. Even though things are far from American mainstream in this story, strong vs. weak is a prominent theme. I enjoyed this story very much as well as Black Dolphin, book #2!

I wear many hats. Author, mother, cook, housekeeper, laundry do-er, sister, daughter. I enjoy writing, it allows me to escape the realities of life: bills, day job, baths, supper, dieting, cleaning the litter box.
My writing is usually romantic in nature with a bit of humor and a bit of surprise. My books range from Vampires who fall in and out of love so many times I had to make it a series to chr
