If it was still beating. Angus MacKay has been undead for almost five hundred years and it's not often something, or someone, surprises him. Until Emma Wallace. The sight of this luscious agent from the CIA's elite Stake-Out team was enough to stop Angus in his tracks. So far this is my favorite books in this series, and I enjoyed it from the start until the end :)

Be Still My Vampire Heart is the story about Angus MacKay (weird name, Angus?) and Emma Wallace (not, not Braveheart, LOL)..

Angus MacKay is a vampire, turned by Roman Draganesti (hero from book one), and the become his close friend and ally. Someday, he found a disturbed news. Someone has slaying many vampire outside. Its a good news of course, because the vampire that got sla...more

I really like Emma. She's spunky and perfect for Angus. Good humor, tension, and action. The story flowed very smoothly, even with the additional bit with Shanna and the baby. This was an all around great read!

This was a pretty funny book! Of course, I didn't realize at the time that this was book 3.. and I haven't read 1 or 2 but I still understood everything that was going on.

This was a story about a vampire who runs a security company (he's a good vampire named Angus) and a mortal woman who is on a mission to kill all the vampires for revenge (Emma Wallace).

Angus sets out to convince Emma that there are two types of vampires in the world, the good and the bad. A client that ...more

Quirky and Fun, This One's Got Bite

Sparks makes great strides in this third installment of her Love at Stake series. Witty dialogue and an absolutely endearing Angus McKay (I mean, come ON, he checks under his kilt every time he teleports just to make sure! How cute is that?!) paired with an emotionally damaged but plucky Emma Watson make this book shine. How does a woman who's psychic abilities allowed her to witness the brutal slayings of her parents at the hands and f...more

I've read three books and one short story in the Love at Stake series. Be Still My Vampire Heart has the weakest title in the series so far but it's the best story. Angus MacKay, Highlander leader of the British cover and responsible for security in the vampire world, is called to New York to solve the vampire hunter problem. The malcontents believe one of the good vamps is attacking their members and turning them into dust, little they know that the hunter is Emma Wallace, CIA agent member of t...more

The series definitely seems to be getting better. At first, the books were mostly fluff read, comparable to your basic Harlequin romance. As of this book, the plots are getting a little juicier. Hopefully, it will stay that way, because I do like the characters and the little Vampire world that Sparks has created, with the Vamps vs the Malcontents and Romatech's Fusion Cuisine. It's just a really different take on the vampire lifestyle. The books aren't at all thrillers, but they have enough...more

I absolutely loved this book! I enjoyed the first two, but this one seemed perfect to me. I love Angus; I love all the Scottish vampires. Emma was strong and confident and exactly what I want in a heroine. You know what else I loved? Getting to see the characters from the previous books actually interact with the new characters! I hate how in some books (like the Carpathian series) the previous characters never make it back on screen. It's a little eerily scary how similar Angus and some ...more

Be Still My Vampire Heart, is the third installment in the Love at Stake series by Kerrelyn Sparks. I'm ashamed to say this is only my first Sparks book I've read. I've seen this series everywhere, but just never
picked it up. Until I came across this book and decided to give it a go. And am I ever glad I did.
I usually read a series from the start, but since these books are pretty much stand alone, it's not necessary. If you are looking to start from the beginning, book one is call...more

I enjoyed this 3rd book much, much more than the 2nd book. It's pretty much just the exact reverse of book #2, but way better. The humor that was missing from #2 is back, especially w/ Gregori. And I love that Shanna and Roman have bigger cameos too. I must admit, I wasn't really that into Angus, but hearing his story was great. Emma seemed different somehow, even the way she spoke felt different. Angus on the other hand is awfully agressive! Pushing up on someone 2 nights after meeting th...more

I am seriously loving these kilted vampires...and an accent always does me in. Whew. I really enjoyed reading the banter between the Emma and Angus...both characters are smart as well as kick a**. This is the third book in the Love at Stake series and I have to say they keep getting better with each addition. There was a lot of action (both butt-kicking and steamy) in this book and I was glad for it, and hope that stupid hard-headed Sean is finally maybe coming around. Anyway, I am glad that the...more

Be Still My Vampire Heart is book 3 in Kerrelyn Sparks' Love At Stakes series

Angus MacKay has been undead for about 500 years. He was found dying on a battlefield and was given the choice to continue the good fight. He chose to continue on despite the cost. Now, years later he is the head and owner of Angus Security an Investigation. He provides protection for a number of important people including Roman Draganesti, his good friend and a coven master located in NYC. Roman has a pr...more

Ok, so far the best in the series. I loved Angus and Emma was a great heroine. In this book the romance between them had a much better development than in the last two, it seemed more real. I really like this series, not a fave but a really quick, fun read.

I loved the first book in the series, was refreshingly surprised by the second, but the third just gives more of the same. Vampire hunter tells herself she could never love a vampire, but ends up falling madly in love with one anyway after a week of knowing one. It's the second novel reversed. Instead of a vampire saying they could never love a human, it's a human saying they could never love a vamp. Instead of a vampire deciding to turn back into a mortal, it's a mortal choosing to turn into a ...more

Sorry for the Sparks fans. I know there are many more of you than there are of me.

I read the first three books in the series because, well, I bought them. In my defense, I bought them based on reader reviews at B&N, and I hadn't ever touched a physical book by Ms. Sparks. While the premise is entertaining enough, the writing is a little simple, for lack of a better term. I don't mean that I require convoluted plots or complex sentence structure; quite the opposite. What I mean i...more

Since I enjoyed All I Want for Chistmas is a Vampire, I was interested in reading the other books in Sparks's Love at Stake series. And was not disspointed with this one. As with her other book, I enjoyed this story and all its characters. Since this is book 3, and I already read book 5, I kind of knew how it would end. Depsite this though, I found myself drawn into the story and its characters. I like getting to know the stories/histories of the other characters that I met in book 5. I esp...more

This is my second time actually reading this book; the first time was about a year ago, and was my entrance into Kerrelyn Sparks. It's the 3rd novel in the Love At Stake series and admittedly, probably my favorite so far. I adore Angus' habit of checking under his kilt to make sure all his 'bits' are still there and in order after transporting, and the way both Angus and Emma know each other for what they are right off is appealing. I've noticed Sparks has a habit of kind of leading the charas i...more

Very much in line with the first book in the series, but the author's writing, or the editing, or both, have improved. A decent if not spectacular paranormal/vampire romance. The leading man is adorable, the plot is weak but acceptable. The author's strength is in writing vivid characters that are quite likable, including the supporting characters. Presumably many of those supporting characters will get novels of their own at a future date, and she's done them well enough that I'm curious to see...more

Kerrelyn Sparks' books remind me of Lynsay Sands (Argeneau series). They are very light vampire romance. I must say that in this book the sex scenes were a little steamier than the first two.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the two main characters, Angus and Emma. Angus was your typical tall, dark and handsome Highlander and Emma was your no-nonsense CIA operative. Their cute banter and teasing made the book an enjoyable read.
The best part of the book was when they were being hel...more

Anyone who reads and enjoys fiction and romance can understand that it's pretty difficult to get your hands on a good romance novel. that if you're looking for a decent one you're best bet is to stay away from the "romance" isle and stick to the "fiction" section where you'll find Nicholas Sparks, and Danielle Steele. But I was willing to do a litle more of a search, something peaked my curiosity about the "romance" section even though most of what consists in it ar...more

Angus MacKay a tough hard bitten Scottish vamp and the trail of a mortal vampire slayer, Emma. Their love story is hard fought from beginning to end. First he just wants to stop her and possibly get her to change sides in the vampire/vampire/mortal war; then all he wants is the best for Emma. Their battle leads to the death of Emma and her being brought to the vampire side. But will she change back or will she remain and be Angus's love forever? Great book, great love story. and the continu...more

Can a hero get any more masculine, alpha, gorgeous, loving than our kilt wearing Scot Angus MacKay? I think NOT!..He is every woman's dream. A warrior, a friend, has a sense of humour, loyalty and you can rely on him to do the right thing. I think Kerrelyn Sparks wrote the epitome of PNR hero, and as if that isn't enough she matched him with a strong, self reliant, heroine in Emma.It is about time a PNR author wrote strong characters who are true to themselves. She let our hero acknowledge ...more

Better than Vamps and the City, but still not the high I felt with How to Marry a Millionaire. I think its just the classic case of nothing beats the first book in the series.

However, I did feel more of a connection with this book because Angus was apart of the first book more than Austin and Darcy were.

This time Angus meets his match in Emma Wallace, STAKE-OUT team member and vampire slayer. Although she's been taking out the evil vampires, the new masters of Ivan's old co...more

This was my favourite book so far. I loved Angus. He was so charming and whitty. The first few lines had me laughing away...

'After four hundred and ninety-three years of teleporting from one place to another, Angus MacKay still felt an urge to peek under his kilt to ensure everything had arrived in fine working condition. There were some ares where a man, vampire or not, would hate to find himself shortchanged. He resisted though, since he wasn't alone.'

This is book 4 in the Love at Stake Series by Kerrelyn Sparks and I think they get better each time. This story was really hard to put down.

Angus MacKay has been a vampire for over 4 hundred years and he has not met anyone who can make him feel like Emma Wallace does. He has been called by his friend Roman to find out who is killing vampires in Central Park and when he finds Emma he tries to convince her to stop what she is doing as she is in danger. She is very attracted to Angus but ...more

Book 3 in the Love at Stake series. This book focuses on Angus MacKay, approximately a 500 year old vampire, and the owner of MacKay Security and Investigation. His job: to find Casimir (the leader of the evil Malcontent vampires) and to keep the mortal vampire slayer Emma Wallace safe before she gets her fool self killed!
