Who says a vamp can't have it all?

Darcy Newhart thought it was a stroke of genius--the first-ever reality TV show where mortals vie with vampires for the title of The Sexiest Man on Earth. As the show's director, Darcy's career would be on track again. And she can finally have a life apart from the vampire harem. Okay, so she's still technically dead, but two out of thre

Did I read the same book? Alot of reviews label this book as a winner...the winner of what, a junior high writing contest? The winner in the "cheesy" catagory maybe.

Not my cuppa. Fans of light, slapstick vampire humor may enjoy tho.

I really enjoy reading it, but I can't say that I adored it. I mean, the story is really nice and the book is a very interesting, funny, quick read.

Nevertheless, I can't enjoy this books as much as I do others more serious. Comedy is nice, but makes me not take the book as serious as I take other prn romances. Even Lynsay Sand's books were a bit more mature and with a more developed plot than this ones. Maybe the problem is that the word that describes these books is "cheesy"...more

This second entry in the Love at Stake series is a fast, fun read. I enjoyed the reality tv show setting-- though, I could nitpicked over a few things that don't seem realistic, but I won't. I loved that some characters carried over from the first book (not enough Roman for my tastes, though), but don't drown out Austin and Darcy, the main love interests.

I'm not about to dismiss this one for being easy and breezy, as some other reviewers have. As a matter-of-fact, I love the wacky pers...more

People did not seem to like this book as much as the other Love at stake series.

Well I did!
In this day and age a lot of people love to watch reality shows.
I’m not one of them but I acknowledge that they can have spark.
This particular vampire show made me shed laughter tears all over the place.
I love the humor in these books!

Kind of a weak follow-up to "How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire". Not terrible, but pretty dull and pointless. The humor from the 1st book just wasn't there. I suppose the 1st book laid down most of the foundation and history of Kerrelyn Sparks' vampire world so book #2 is more about character development for these secondary characters. There is some talk about the war that is threatening to erupt between the 2 vampire factions, but not much.

I was actually pretty bore...more

I had this book checked out from the library for a long time before I actually read it. It just sounded so fluffy and girly that I just didn't think I'd like it. The back of the book did absolutely nothing to make me want to read it, but I knew I had to get through it in order to read the rest of the series which I've heard is quite good. I finally read it when I had no other PNR books checked out. It took me five days to get through it and that included a weekend. I normally get through a book ...more

This is the second book in the Love at Stake series. I read the first one on an all night work shift...it was good, this one was way better. I love the depth Sparks brings to her characters, how you can actually see them caught between disaster and happiness and longing and pain. Its amazing. I love Darcy and Austin, they are adorable together, now I am ready to see Connor get his girl. I am a bit annoyed that Darcy couldn't see past her anger to not blame Connor so much, he just wanted to try a...more

Love at Stake is that kind of series you read when you just want to relax. There's no mysterious plot, no complex villains. Vamps and the City is the second book in the series and again I felt basically the same things: entertaining story, so so couple and weird ending.

Darcy is a reporter who was murdered four years ago and turned into a vampire. For her own protection, she was included into Roman's harem (a harem is without a master). She's trying to restart her career at DVN, Digi...more

This one made me wish I'd read the series in order. Already being familiar with all the characters, I knew the outcome of the book from the very beginning. But all along, I had no idea how she was going to get us there. There were twists at every turn and so many shocking surprises, that it made me really wish I didn't already know the final outcome. Like the rest of the series, it was so well written. The author has very deep characters, even the slimy side characters have a lot of surpris...more

This second book in the series is not a stand alone novel. This book builds on the ending of the first and is a wonderful introduction of Women's Lib. to vampires. A reporter accidentally turned into a vampire finds the culture very stifling. As a woman she is supposed to lounge around in the harem, get pampered by her Master, and gossip with the other women. Well when the Master of one harem falls in love, he decides to disband them and let them find another Master. Well the spunky reporte...more

This was another entertaining book by Kerrelyn Sparks. I enjoyed this one as much as the first. Some of the lines are quite chessy but that is what I wanted. It is your typical vampire romance novel. The two main characters are sweet and charming and a HEA so all is well.

I think it is so funny how these"Vamps" live amongst humans like it is such a casual thing but feel that the are superior to everyone. The "Harem" is the funniest part of the whole book. They rea...more

Again...finished it only in one day coz this book is really easy to read. It's better than the first Book, i love the heroine of this book, Darcy Newhart, a 4-year-old vampire who was saved by Connor after she was attacked by bad vampire. But she still missed the sun, the beach, and her family. That's whay she's really attracted to Austin Ericksson (human) the moment she saw him. She's really smart and indepenence...that's why i love her so much.

There's so much emotion in this book, ...more

I didn´t like this one. The humor from book 1 was totally missing, the story was oh-so-predictible and I didn´t feel the lovestory at all. It was really boring in fact.

The whole book Austin was disgusted by the idea that Darcy might be a vampire and from out of nowhere he loves her and is willing to sacrifice himself for her? No.Friggin.Way!!!

Sorry but I couldn´t take this book seriously enough to like it. The candidates in the vampire reality show (seriously?) were supp...more

I was a little scared to read this because I saw that it wasn't a continuation of the first book. I gave it a try though, and I'm glad I did! This book had me laughing out loud numerous times. Some of the humor was cheesy, but that's ok, it fit with the characters. I enjoyed every character in the book and I was interested the entire way through. I don't know what it was that kept me so engrossed, the whole story took place over only a few days, but I really loved it. I have a hard time believin...more

i would say this was better than the first book, How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire, if for nothing else than they weren't saying "God's blood" every 5 seconds... definitely funny and sweet... i love the different view on vampires... i mean vampire soap opera's... who would've thought? but i also liked that even though the characters from the first book were still in this one there were different main characters so you got to know the other vamps more in depth... as well as finding out...more

I thought the first book in this series was bad, but this was even worse. Only my obsessive perseverance enabled me to finish it at all. I found it stylistically awful, complete with glaring grammatical errors, shoddy writing, and overuse of annoying phrases such as 'holy moley' which induced near-ceaseless groans of revulsion. The premise, while somewhat intriguing, was wildly unrealistic and this showed through repeatedly in the plot. Both hero and heroine were stereotyped past the point of r...more

An outrageously funny parallel to Sex and the City but with Vampires!

Originality gets a star. Humor gets a star (OMG - the parade of bizarre applicants for the reality show had me laughing so hard my tummy hurt). Character background and development gets another and just the right amount of spice (IMO) gives it a total of 4 stars.

The only thing missing for the 5th star was, while I enjoyed the story very much, it didn't keep me glued to the pages. I found its predictabili...more

The second in the Love at Stake series, this book is just as good as the first.

Combining comedy, romance, and some interesting situations this book has become one of my favorites.

Meet Austin, a man who believes he is helping save innocent lives by joining the CIA Stake-Out team and helping rid the world of the creatures known as vampires, who is on his next mission: join onto DVN's newest show and gather information on the vampires.

This is the story about Darcy who is hired by the DVN (Digital Vampire Network) to produce a reality show. The show is about the Sexiest Man on Earth. Darcy gets involved with Adam who is undercover with the CIA. He auditions for the reality show and becomes a contestant. The story takes off from there. I loved the Harem women and some of their personalities made me laugh out loud. You can imagine seeing some of these women and how ignorant they are of the modern times. A good part of this ...more

This was a cute book with a bit of humor mixed in. I enjoyed this book, but had to put it down every now and then because the story moved too slow. In this book Darcy, a vamp director, is directing a show called The Sexiest Man On Earth. The winner is supposed to be a vamp, but Darcy puts her own twist in the show when she adds mortals to compete with the vamps for Sexiest Man On Earth. She ends up falling in love with one of the sexy mortals competing for the prize, but what she doesn't know is...more

Since I have already read the majority of the books in this series, I could not help but read the others. And as with the other books, I found this one an enjoyable read. This book tells the story of Darcy and Austin. Overall, I found the story intersting and enjoyable; and loved seeing how the characters mentioned in the 5th book came to be together. I liked the author's use of humor, and how the characters from other stories were included. As with the other books, I appreciated the fact tha...more

Took me a while to get into the plot, but once the characters got more involved and past characters made an appearance, I grew to like this story as well. I'm just more a fan of a vampire male and a human female. Seems like the story balances better.

Darcy Newhart has never fit into the vampire world in the four years since her turning. Once a news anchor, Darcy submits an idea for a vampire show on DVN and gets the job as director.

The reality show involves finding the Sexies...more

There were parts of this book I loved and parts of this book I hated. I really, really love the series and the ideas behind these books. The best way I can describe them is that they're like humorous books in the Sookie Stackhouse series. They both have synthetic blood, and the vamps have the same vibe. The books actually remind me a LOT of things I'd role-played before ever reading these books. The books go from character to character and find them a soulmate, and then move on to the next ...more

This is the second book in the Love at Stake series, and although I enjoyed aspects of it, in comparison to the first book, it was missing a little something.

If I'm honest, I was already slightly put off by the premise of the reality game show concept. But having thought similar things about the broken fang in the first book, I gave it the benefit of the doubt. Unlike book one however, where the fang thing was just the "hook" to get your attention followed by a decent plot, t...more

Two words: Austin Erickson.

Enter Austin Erickson. He's a hunky spy with some serious psychic mojo. Boyfriend can enter anyone's mind (both vamp and human) and read/manipulate thoughts. He's also got some ...more
