I read it as a teenager and I remember that I loved it.
One of the highlights---this poem by a female student who wished to remain anonymous:

'Things you didn't do'

Remember the day I borrowed your brand new car,

And I dented it?

I thought you'd kill me,

But you didn't.

And remember the time I dragged you to the beach,

And you said it would rain, and it did?

I thought you'd say, "I told you so,"

But your didn't.

Do you remember the time I flirted with all the guys to make you jealous?

And you were?

I though...more

I generally hate self-help/inspirational type books, however this book holds a soft spot in my heart. Prior to leaving for university my mom gave me this book and encouraged me to take risks, to be open to new people and new experiences and to accept every experience whether it be good or bad as moments where I learned something new about myself. I often refer to this book and have recommended this to many people...

This book is my favorite book of all time. I just love Leo Buscaglia and miss him - I wish I had met him before he passed on. This is the first book of his I read in freshman year at Warren Wilson College - read it in a week.

I buy his books as gifts - they are the best - his Christmas stories collection is my favorite and my favorite short story is No Room in the Inn - awe.

Love (his first book) is a great book to help you forgive as well as Loving Each Other: The Challenge of Human Relationship....more

In the very early 80's. A wise woman suggested I read Leo's books and watch for him to appear on the PBS station. I followed her advice and his work. I have carried his suggestions and ideas inside my heart for all these years and I am still hoping and waiting for people to take his advice to heart. Now that I am in my 50's, I look around today and I think that people are finally doing this. Hopefully it is not just a trick of light....

To be honest I wasn't expecting to like this book very much. It was one of those books always touted as something you "had" to read if you were going into education back when I was in college. So, of course I avoided it like the plague.

When my book group selected it, I ordered it from the library and gave it a shot. It was much better than I thought it would be. In some ways it was what I expected: Everyone needs love; everyone needs to show love to everyone else; everyone needs to be their best...more

I haven't had time to review any books, but this one is so easy, I decided to write this out...
I read this book in the mid-1980's. It is one of the most important books I've ever read in my life. Don't let the title fool you. It's about all love relationships, not just those between a man and a woman. This book changed my life and it allowed me to except my children, whether they used green to color their tree's, or whether they chose orange, red, yellow and brown. Read the book and see what tha...more

What is the experience of being a human being? In order to make sense of all the chaos that is life, Leo Buscaglia deliciously teaches us to embrace all that changes. Like the title of his book, being a human being is all about living, loving and learning. So if we find we have a lot of love in our hearts, we can love our way through all the chaotic changes and also become fully aware of ALL that is human which is to ultimately realize the "Yes" of life and the "No" of death are a union of love,...more

The first time that I read this book was around 10 years ago, I have read it twice more since. I bought this book when I was in college and had watched some of Leo Buscaglia's lectures in a class. I was enchanted by his teachings and his words and wanted more. I was saddened to learn that he had passed away prior to being introduced to his thoughts. I would have loved to meet him/hear him speak in person. There needs to be more Leo Buscaglia's in our world! :)

What a fantastic book, so many things to take with you that it really makes you think about so many different things relating to life & love. He talks about his family & describes what it was like to grow up in such an environment. He describes their influences on him & what seemed to be the way a family should be like. The book has its good & bad meaning you'll laugh at one thing on the page & in the next paragraph you'll be deeply touched by something else. It was a real ey...more

■42% done~Honestly... What am I doing reading this book?! -laugh- I tend to be bored and just pick up whatever is on the bookshelf that I haven't read, but seriously, this guy is really good. I can easily get into the "lectures". It's so flowy and what this guy says actually makes sense to me. I may not have a love, but I can know what it feels like just by reading. I've given quite a lot of love advice because of this guy~

I had a hard time getting into this book. I think Leo has some important stuff to say and I'd like to get at it, but this book was constantly shoved to the bottom of my "read" pile because I just wasn't in the mood for it. I finally returned it after only reading a few chapters. I might come back to it at a different time.

Is there anything else a man can ask for? Leo Buscaglia has the tremendous ability to bring out our finest self with this book! This book contains advice and points of view we should all be familiar with if you also belong to those people that think that this world needs a change :)

After reading this book, I saw that even through life’s troubles, it is necessary to practice being a loving person to oneself and others. The book explains how to “build bridges instead of barriers” with others.
Although other literature takes us in necessary directions, few works are as refreshing to the emotional well-being as Living, Loving, and Learning.

Buscaglia is awesome. I try to imagine what it must have been like to have been one of his college students. I love how he embraces life and encourages us to embrace others, if not physically then by doing small acts of kindness.

I read Buscaglia back to back with Peck's The Road Less Traveled and it was like night and day. Their approaches to life are opposites. I prefer Buscaglia. He's a big Italian teddy bear who wants everyone to get along and to find out what makes them happy, and to enjoy life. Peck is more Calvinistic - nose to the grindstone, delay gratification, if it feels good it's probably bad for you... Now of course, I read these books about 20 years ago so my memory might be embellishing - I do recall howe...more

This book was originally required reading for me. It became the best $0.01 I ever spent on Amazon. The lessons taught in Dr. Buscaglia's book cover a myriad of topics from communication to trust to feelings to hugs. Along the way he provides wonderful insight and advice to those who wish to understand themselves and everyone else who considers themself human. Surpisingly, this work was entertaining, informantive and useful to me and I am nowhere near being a member of the Bleeding Heart Brigade....more

Leo Buscaglia was a tremendous author and teacher. All of his books and lectures are terrific. You need to experience them to understand them. Thanks to my mom for introducing me to him when I was younger....

Una lettura semplice e piacevole, per il senso di ottimismo e serenità che comunica, per i tanti esempi di vita vissuta raccontati con ironia, per la capacità di suscitare stimoli.

Do a random act of kindness....When you receive a book from the library which you particularly resonated with... leave little notes of love in the book for the next person to find.
I opened up this book to begin to read and the page 111 (how very ascension) was circled in pencil the Index, for the chapter of 'Bridging the Barriers.' I immediately turned to page 111, since it was circled...and out fell a little note which said "i love you"
I was so filled with joy and warmth that I just laid down a...more

I read this in college and started it again to get ready for a new school year. I love being reminded about how important teaching is, especially in my own home.

ghh that was the most horrible book I've ever read (it took me one month to finish it).

I didnt enjoyed it because it hadn't any plot and it was mostly like a lecture!

Maybe this is not my genre :-(

One of my all time favorite books. I read it when I was 16 and it changed my life and made me realize what an intricate part books are in my life.

I used to love these books when I was a teenager. I haven't read them in ages. Leo Buscaglia is such a positive and uplifting person.

Very inspiring. The book became repetitive toward the end but I still give it five stars because the message of embracing life, others and self is beautiful.

One of the best & definitely my favorite Leo Buscaglia book i've read. " To love is to risk not being loved in return". :)

The author has a warm, genuine way of describing; love, family, friendship, and acceptamce. His books and CDs are enjoyable.

A book about LOVE. Leo B. was such a man of his word. I needed to hear these words in the late 80's. Strongly rec.

Read and reread as a teenager. Helped me to be accepting and loving, I really liked his philosophy on life.

“I exist, I am, I am here, I am becoming, I make my own life and no one else makes it for me. I must face my own shortcomings, mistakes, transgressions. No one can suffer my non-being as I do, but tomorrow is another day, and I must decide to leave my bed and live again. And if I fail, I don't have the comfort of blaming you or life or God. ” 118 people liked it
