I'm chagrined to confess that I only recently became aware of the prominent African-American author, Charles W. Chestnutt. He produced the majority of his work in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century and is perhaps best known for his Conjure Tales, which are set in the American south among the poor black post-slavery population.
