Reading this book was like talking over the fence about relationships with the neighbor who just loaned you their hedge clippers. It was oddly refreshing to read a relationship book from a male point of view - especially from a guy that seems to have no special training or research in the area. It's clear the author has read and thought a lot about the subject, but the book wasn't filled with the latest research. It was just a guy talking over the fence (or maybe over dinner - it's too long for ...more

I think it was the beginning of December when I saw an email come through from Revell Books about a blog book tour for Romancing Your Better Half by Rick Johnson. I saw the title and jumped on the bandwagon to review it, because, well, six months into a new baby, I thought it would be an excellent refresher. So, I grabbed my coffee and started working my way through it each time I sank into the rocking chair to nurse Areli.

Rick dedicates a chapter to marriage, communication, love, romance and i

I am an absolute creature of habit. I like things to stay the same old, same old. In fact for me to even change my living room around takes a miracle. But the other day I lost my mind and did it. Guess what . . . I love the new look. Same old furniture and area rug, but with a little switch up it all looks new and inviting.

In his new book Romancing Your Better Half Rick Johnson explores some of those same types of things. If you've been in a marriage relationship for awhile you know it is easy t

Pros: I found this book to be quite practical in it’s content. All throughout the book there are boxes of actual ideas on how to implement what Johnson is discussing in a particular chapter. Information in the books is also backed up by studies and surveys.

Each section of the book ends with some “Intimacy-Building Tips.” The tips are practical and easy things to do. Sometimes it might suggest a simple extra effort to do something for your spouse and others involve some internal reflection.

Romancing Your Better Half by Rick Johnson is a book about marriage, romance, respect, and commitment.

Even if you do not agree with everything in the book, you will probably find valuable nuggets of information. The book focuses on overcoming obstacles in marriage to build a happier union, which is a common goal for most couples. Throughout the book, Johnson lists tips and ideas for strengthening marriage, such as, “Be intentional about using words that uplift your spouse every day.” The author

Im always on the lookout for great marriage resources and this is absolutely one of the best I’ve come across. What intrigued me first is that this book is written by a man. I typically reach for resources written by women for women, so I was really excited for something different.
There is such a wealth of wisdom between these pages! This is definitely one of those books that I’m recommending to all of my married friends.
I love how Rick balances humor (Cleanliness Is Next To Sexiness…LOL!!!) wit

"Romancing Your Better Half, Keeping Intimacy Alive in Your Marriage" by Rick Johnson is a book about keeping your marriage solid through out your or your spouses life. I was interested in this book as I have a solid marriage but I am always interested in reading about ways to keep in solid. It is from a man's point of view but still very good for women to read also. Also it is from a Christian stand point so if that turns you off then don't read it. This was an excellent book it did not give ...more

Romantic love is often thought to wane after the first few years of marriage. The author takes the read through what intimacy is and how to keep it going in your marriage. Written for both the husband and the wife, this book is full of facts, statistics, Biblical advice, and practical tips. The book reads like a well researched paper with all of the facts about marriage. But the author throws in personal stories that are either from his own experiences or that fit well with the subject matter. ...more

I think many of us that have been married for more than a few years often forget about the romance aspect of our marriage. It's not that our marriages are bad, it's just that they lack that spark that was there when we first got married. We have children, jobs, houses to run and we aren't just focusing on us like we were when we first got married. I think women are often reading books more then men about how to make their marriages better or how to "fix" them. It's not that they are broken, it's ...more

Romance means different things to different people, but Rick Johnson is able to show the reader how to make changes that will help build romance with your other. Whether a new or a well-established marriage, the author helps to keep things fresh while exploring new avenues.

My husband and I read this book together so we could discuss the ideas with each other, which is always great for connecting with conversation. The chapters include topics such as communication, love, romance and intimacy, sex

When I first chose to review this book, I honestly thought that it was going to be one filled with fun dates and things like that. Reading the book description now, I have no idea why I thought that! My guess is that it was late at night and I didn't thoroughly read what I was choosing. Silly me! That's okay because this book turned out to be a good choice anyway. Filled with sections on communication, love, romance, sex and even woundedness, this is a great book to remind all of us how to be ...more

One thing that I am SO adamant about is romancing my husband. I love making him feel like he is super special in my life. He is the love of my life and nothing pleases me more than showering him with love and affection.

In Romancing Your Better Half by Rick Johnson, he offers tips to help you continue the romance.

Seriously — let’s face it. We have all been there when the romance department has been depleted and your relationship is just running on fumes. Been there — done that — have the t-shirt.

Is the woman always considered the “better half”? Is that fair? Is it true? Those questions aside, I find the title intriguing, and the contents worthwhile. Many thought-provoking sections include communicating with the other sex, love (as in falling into it), romance and intimacy, sexuality, and woundedness. The author finishes with a chapter “for Him”, and a chapter “for Her”. One exceptional aspect of the book (one of many) is that the author writes about young marrieds AND older couples. ...more

I did not finish reading this book because the more I read the more irritated I became. I've read several books about marriage and how it stays alive, but mostly I look to my parents and grandparents who keep their marriages alive and are very happy without the rubbish I was reading in this book. I received an ARC through Revell publishing in exchange for an honest review. This in no way influenced my opinion. This is my opinion and may not reflect your own, and that's ok!

The first chapter was fantastic. The rest of the book was just okay. Sometimes I found the way the author said things annoying. Overall, it did have some good tips for a happy marriage.
