Slow start, but picks up when he finally gets to the big mountain. But then bogs down again with so many superfluous details about Hall's personal life that has nothing to do with mt. climbing. I also agree that the dozens of names of people (who don't really have a main role) was tedious. I have read numerous books on Everest and mt. adventures, and this is one of my least favorites, simply because I didn't like the author's personality. (think of an uncle who shows up at Christmas and talks ...more

I went to King's English in May to listen to Lincoln Hall speak and was enthralled by his story. He was pronounced dead on Mt. Everest and left alone. However, the next morning some climbers found him alive sitting cross legged on the trail. His story of cerebral edema, surviving a night alone on Everest, making it down the mountain alive, reuniting with his family is truly amazing. I got to speak to him for awhile about my own experience with cerebral edema and it was very intense to be able...more

I am fascinated by Everest and the stories of people who attempt to climb the mountain. Not that I want to do it myself - living in a tent in the snow for a couple of months, forget it. This is the story of a climber who was left near the summit by his team because they thought he was dying, only to be discovered by another team the next morning very much alive. I've just started reading, the climbers are just getting set up at Base Camp. The author, who is also the climber left for dead, do...more

I found the book "Into Thin Air" so enchanting that I read instead of watching the Real World Marathon. I wanted the same from "Dead Lucky"
I think anyone who climbs Mt. Everest is crazy, sexy, cool. However, this guy needs more editing and less ego. Glad you made it back from the dead, Lincoln Hall, and I might like you in person...but on paper, you annoyed me.

Another autobiographical Aussie adventure book. This time on Everest. L. Hall becomes disoreiented, and stay overnight above 21,000 feet. He is found, alive, without the top of his gear on. A crazy little story about the dangers of climbing to the world's ceiling.

An amazing story of a climber's trek up and back down (barely) Mt. Everest. Great detail, good adventure, but heavy on character names which are hard to keep straight. Overall a great read if you like moutaineering-type books.

Autobiographical by a climber/writer - so far so good.
