My daughter loves books. She's two-and-a-bit and, beyond an affection for Miyazaki films, her only truly manic love is for books. She will read them by herself but absolutely prefers to have them read to her. She's gone through several favourites, her canon constantly in flux, but right now she seems to be on a bit of a Frog and Toad kick. I tried out Johnny Boo on her and the result was appreciation though not adulation. Mainly, she likes Squiggle well enough and enjoys the voice I More...

Johnny Boo is a happy, little ghost that loves to play with his pet ghost, Squiggle. Squiggle has Squiggle power because he can do loop-de-loops, and Johnny Boo has Boo power because he can yell "BOO!" really loudly. The friends play, get mad at each other for "cheating", and make up in time to go get ice cream. Johnny wants Squiggle to whisper when talking about the ice cream because of the ice cream monster, but the monster finds them anyway. After they realize the monst

Johnny Boo is the best little ghost in the world, and his pet ghost Squiggle is pretty great, too! One day while playing a game of chase, Squiggle decides that Johnny Boo cheated and gets really, really, really, mad. The only way Johnny Boo can make it up to him is with ice cream. But on the way to get it, they run into a scary Ice Cream Monster! They’re really scared; until they find out he’s a nice Ice Cream Monster and decide to share their ice cream with him. But the Ice Cream Monster g

I don't know why but my kids (boys 5 and 8) are in love with this book. They read it at least 3 times a day. Even my 2-yr. old pretends to read it. It is a sweet book about two little ghosts. The language is funny and there is an ice cream monster and some burping at the end. My kids laugh from start to finish. Oh, and another plus is that it is a graphic novel easy ready written with lower-case letters! Yay!

What is not to like about James Kochalka our American Elf? I realize I haven't been pushing his comics via Goodreads and now the time has come. This story is silly and drawn in a simplified cartoonish-comic book style that I love James for. He is super. My students loves his books something awful as well. Pinky & Stinky is a perpetual favorite with 10-year-olds.

I gave this book three stars, but only because our girls really enjoyed it. I thought it was fairly irritating. It reads like a story written by a first grader and that might've been the allure for our girls. Since they liked it, I will encourage them to read more of these books on their own, but I don't know if I could read any more.

Adorable. Funny. Starring Johnny Boo, Squiggle and The Ice Cream Monster. Ice Cream monster greedily gobbles up all of the ice cream and accidentally swallows Squiggle. Squiggle swishes his way out of the Ice Cream monster with a burp and Johnny Boo utilizes the power of Boo to get the Ice Cream Monster to stop burping.

This book was mentioned in a GeekDad article on the best halloween books for kids. See Goodreads list here.

This story was weird. Ghosts are racing each other and decide to get ice cream that is in a secret place. An ice cream monster appears and chases them and ends up eating all of the ice cream as well as one of the ghosts.
There were plenty of speech bubbles and limited colors.

After reading this to me last night, Addie said, "That book was stupid." When I asked her to elaborate, she said that she thinks it's for preschoolers. And boys. She thought the burp scene was gross. :)

One Sentence Review: You don't find many graphic novel easy readers out there and I think that this one might be pretty okay, except there's something about it that makes my 30-year-old eyes blur.

More goofiness from James Kochalka. Z loves him . . . possibly because the author is perfectly in sync with the mind of a five-year-old. Kind of like a graphic novel version of Jon Scieska

There's a burping Ice Cream monster, a ghost with a pompadour named Johnny Boo, and his best buddy, Squiggle a tiny ghostie.
Kinda cute, but short and vacant.

Cute graphic book for younger kids. A fun way to show younger kids different types of books (besides standard picture books and chapter books)

cute. And, a message I have personally been trying to spread is in the forefront of this book, NEVER trust Ice Cream Monsters...

So silly! Lola's been really into graphic novels lately - I'll be curious what she thinks of this one.

If you or you don't have kids, you have to read this book and have a laugh.

There is an ice cream monster in this book. What more do I need to say?

Okay, the kids love this book. However, I find graphic novels annoying to read and the ice cream monster reminds me of Yo Gabba Gabba, which I loathe. If I didn't have to read it out loud, I would probably like it a lot more.

Cute, bubbly ghost and baby ghost encounter a giant ice cream monster. It's like an EZ graphic novel. Not too many of those around. Perfect for a kindergartener.

its a really fast book, with a really quirky story, nice clean images (clean like sharp, because it does have some puke scenes in it).
