3 Emotional Drifter Stars

Alyssa Joannou, Noah and Chloe's childhood best friend from Before He Was Famous , has been dating drummer Sebastian Moreno (from Noah's band) for about a year, when he decides he needs some space so he can focus on the music. Not sure if she's devastated from the breakup or embarrassed that her breakup is playing out in the public eye, she makes a rash decision to apply to be a contested on the reality

This is a PERFECT summer read!

Becky Wicks is a hidden gem in this world full of authors. This is my second book by her and I’m very impressed with her ability to create a story that really pulls the reader in from the start. Before He Was Gone is written from dual POVs which is something that I’m in love with these days. I feel like it gives the reader a more in-depth look into what is actually going on with the characters. I talk a lot about flat writers in my reviews, writers

It was my love of rock stars that introduced me to Becky Wicks, when I couldn't resist reading Before He Was Famous. Now that I've had a taste, it's her talent that brings me back for more in the Starstruck Series. She had my attention from the first page to the last, I barely put my kindle down, and not by choice. Before He Was Gone Is like Survivor + Blue Lagoon. Throw in some colorful characters, sand fleas, coconuts, chickens, a goat, some cameras, some strategy,

Wow! This was a super, spectacular read. It was comprehensive in such a cool way. I loved that it was funny, cute, sweet, and conflicted right up until the end. I believe I have sniffled for two kidding. What Alyssa and Joshua had was special. I cheered for them and that says a lot.

I don't think I have ever read a book quite like this one, but I am so glad that I took a chance on this. Excellent!

I absolutely loved Before He Was Gone, even more than Before He Was Famous which I thoroughly enjoyed. Think C4's Shipwrecked meets 50 Shades, this is a sexy, fun, behind the scenes look at the world of a reality TV show, with a dramatic love story between 2 great characters.

Set on a deserted island during the 8 weeks of a TV game show, Becky Wicks again gives us brilliantly real characters and attention to detail that really brings the whole book to life. I was drawn in from the first page and

Becky Wicks wowed me with the first book in this series, and I was thrilled to get my hands on an early copy of this follow-up! One part Survivor and another part tender budding romance, Alyssa and Joshua’s island escapades made my pulse race and my heart happy as they wormed their way into each other’s souls!

I wasn’t sure what to make of these two when we first meet them. They are in very different places in their lives but at the same time both at that crossroads where something huge could rea

Before he was gone is my first Becky Wicks, a self published author. It’s the second volume in a New Adult series titled Starstruck. I don’t plan to read the first volume, Before he was famous. The two books turn around a famous band.

Alyssa, our heroine, is involved with one of the guy in the band at the beginning of the book. She is dumped by the latter and she must face the blogs and journalist because ev

Going into this book I wasn't sure how much I was really going to like it since it has a Survivor feel to it and personally I can't stand that show. I should totally know better, this was a wonderful story, and fun too. :)

I really enjoyed the first book in this series so I was definitely going to give this one a chance, even with my preconceived notions and all, as wrong as they might have been.

You don't need to read book one to read this one, but if you do you will meet Alyssa already and know

I loved Becky’s Before he was Famous so was really pleased to see this. Noah and Chloe make brief appearances, but its Chloe’s friend Alyssa who’s the main lead. She’s just been dumped by band member Sebastian, and looking at her life and dreams, trying to keep out of the media firestorm that's descended, she applies for and is accepted on the TV programmer Deserted. That reminds me so much of a book I read when I first got my kindle Wicked Games Jill Myles which I just loved. Though they’re ...more

My review of: “Before He Was Gone” by Becky Wicks

I didn’t read the first book in the series, so I was a little concerned that I wouldn’t be able to understand parts of this book. That wasn’t the case. This is a standalone. It has references to the first book, but nothing that would confuse or irritate a reader.

I enjoy Ms. Wicks’s writing style. It was clear and concise. The pace throughout the book was excellent. There wasn’t a point when I was bored. I didn’t find myself doing housework while I

I was lucky enough to get my paws on a pre-release copy of Before He Was Gone and it accompanied me on what should have been a long train journey. The journey flew by, in a wave of sand, sea and sunshine thanks to this great summer story.

Perfectly paced to keep me turning pages (or clicking Kindle buttons, ahem), Before He Was Gone developed the character of Alyssa from Before He Was Famous with the style and vivacity I have come to expect from the author.

SO I'm so glad I read this! I loved Before He was Famous, and I especially loves Alyssa in that book so her story definitely didn't disappoint!

I'm going to give the briefest synopsis because I think if I say to much I'll spoil something, it was that jam packed!

So Alyssa signed up for a reality surveyor show with nine other people, this is where she meets the super mysterious Joshua aka Tarzan. Literally dude is spearing fish and climbing palm trees. (The only thing I wish was that

I was lucky enough to be a beta reader for this one and I enjoyed it from start to finish. If you’re a Survivor fan you’ll recognise the basic format in that a cast of sometimes hilarious characters have to face all kinds of challenges and fight for their survival on an island as they try to win a million dollars. But Before He Was Gone is a love story at heart, and a very funny, moving one that lets us see into both main character’s minds as they go through the eight week show and slowly, in ...more

Becky does it again, delivering a searingly hot, emotionally intense and brilliantly written book. I loved it. Like Before He Was Famous which took us behind the scenes of the music industry, this book gives us a fascinating behind the scenes insight into reality TV. It's a hugely entertaining love story with heart.

My main problem with Becky Wicks first novel (Before He Was Famous) was that I got so into it I was late for work. Twice. No such problems with this, her latest in the Starstruck series as I read it in one go, straight off. Becky has absolutely mastered the art of page turning, racy, pacy love stories.

Set against the backdrop of a 'Survivor' style reality programme we follow the fate of the contestants through their time on an island. There are some great characters, funny incidents and of cours

As soon as I started reading Before He Was Gone, I was immediately reminded of what a fun, fresh concept Becky Wicks created with this series... seemingly ordinary young adults catapulted into the spotlight of Hollywood fame. In Before He Was Famous, we met Noah Lockton and the girl next door, Chloe, who tried to manage their blooming relationship in the public eye after Noah wins a reality tv music competition that kick starts his music career. Step inside a different world and get an inside look of what it’s really like to take part of a reality show. Think of Survivor—heading to a remote island to complete for 1 million dollars by taking part in some crazy challenges. You’d escape the life you live—have a chance to run from things you’d like to leave behind.

That’s what Alyssa does. After the breakup with her famous boyfriend, she applies for the hit TV show, ‘Deserted,’ and to her shock is chosen as one of the contestants. She leaves

There is something about a brooding hero that I love. Be it that quiet way of communicating, the emotions hidden within or the fact that they all tend to carry themselves with an air of arrogance--I don't know. All I know is that Joshua had it all.

Joshua is a loner. A drifter who spends his time from adventure to adventure, taking risks for Joshua is part of the norm. But behind all that bravado is a scared man who's looking for an answer to his problems. He needs money--a lot of it. So when th

What? Is this book trying to say reality shows are manipulated for ratings and it’s not all real?! No!

Ok, ok, it might be obvious that reality shows are somewhat staged! If you’ve watched reality shows—in this particular case, think Survivor—you’ll probably get a kick out of the setting for this book. Ten lucky competitors are deser

You know when you fall in love with a book and then find out it's going to be a part of a series, but you know that another book can't possibly compare or exceed the love you felt for the first one, but then you read the next book and half way through you realize that it's possible you might just like it better than the first? Then you start to feel guilty because you feel like you should be more loyal to your love for the first book? Yeah, me too. I really thought that I couldn't love a story ...more

I absolutely adored book one and I wanted to read Alyssa, Chloe’s best friend’s, story.

Before He Was Gone had a plot that I haven’t seen in a book thus far. It centered around a reality TV show, Deserted, where a group has to survive on a deserted island and people get voted off until the last person standing wins the one million dollar prize. I had seen commercials for tv shows like this but it was so interesting to actually read the story of the players. It definitely did

You may recall a review for Before He Was Famous, the first book in this series, which featured a kitty named The Great Catsby. How can you not remember a cat named Catsby? Sadly (SPOILER), Catsby doesn't show up in this book.

Before He Was Gone is the second in the series and also deals with elements of fame.

Sometimes, you have to get lost to find yourself...

Well, how about putting yourself on a remote island with strangers competing for a grand prize? Is that lost enough? For Alyssa, it was the perfect escape. Recently dumped by her superstar boyfriend, she was tired of being known as ‘that girl’, she was tired of her dead-end job. She just wanted to get away. When she finds out that Deserted, a hit reality show, is looking for contestants for their next season, she jumps at the chance to audition.

I'm a huge fan of New Adult, but many New Adult books have started to blend together, and I find myself feeling like I'm reading the same books over and over. The best part of reading is the experience and I've been in desperate need for an author to give me something new to experience. Becky Wicks does just that with her Starstruck series. You know why I like Becky’s books?

Because they are so damn original!!! Only she can manage to take us on a reality show setting and give us a beautiful love story.

This is her second book in her Starstruck series and once again she takes us on a journey of self-discovery, where we meet a bunch of amazing characters and the funny thing for me was, t even though I really loved the two main characters, I ended up being super invested in the other contestants of the show, an

I think I wanted to like this book more than I did. That's not to say this is a bad read, as I did enjoy this book, but I think my expectations were higher so I came away feeling a little dissatisfied. In general though, I'm glad I requested this book and gave it a chance.

I enjoyed the overall theme of being stranded on an island for reality TV. I've seen it done in real life so I was curious to see how the author translated it i

I'm feeling a bit torn about Before He Was Gone... On the one hand, I really loved the engaging writing, the characters, the plot. But on the other, I really don't like that TV show Survivor - which basically is the background and setting for the book. I think what really kept me from hating this book, like that show, is that Wicks doesn't present you with the melodramatic, out of context drama, but the actual events of the happenings a
