On a balmy spring evening, four high school seniors - three boys and one girl - enter a park in the small city of Conroy, Pennsylvania. The next morning, two of the boys are found shot to death, and the girl and the third boy are gone. After three weeks with no leads and no sign of either of the missing teenagers, the chief of police begins to wonder if they too were victims. But with no other suspects, the authorities conclude that one of these kids was the shooter.

The missing boy's grandmothe...more

I thought the mystery in this one was just ok, what more interested me was the characters and the relationships they were developing. I liked Mallory, thought she got a raw deal with the police. I respected that her Chief let her go, even though he didn’t want to, knowing it would be better/safer for her. I liked that even though she wasn’t working for him, he gave her a glowing recommendation, one which seems to be bringing about a shift in her life. I loved seeing how the case slowly got it’s...more

This was a good murder/suspense/thriller story. It's the first installment in what will be a series and it is well written, not only to set up the series to come, but as its own stand-alone good story.

Mallory Russo was a cop on the fast track to lead detective in Conroy Pennsylvania until she refused to lie for her partner when he did something stupid enough to get him busted down to patrol. Mallory found the "blue wall" closed against her and left the force. Now she's been asked by local priest...more

Good, solid mystery. Enjoyable.

STORY BRIEF:
Four teens were in a park at night. Two were shot and two disappeared. The police believe the two who disappeared killed the other two. The police have stopped working on the case. Father Burch (the parish priest who runs the school) believes the teens are innocent and hires private investigator Mallory to search for the teens and find out what happened. The local police hate Mallory because she wouldn’t lie for a fellow cop who got demoted. She was lea...more

I’m trying to figure out what exactly I liked about this book, and honestly there wasn’t all that much there. It started out promisingly enough but the more the story progressed the more I was waiting for something exciting or surprising to happen and that never did.
Although they were likeable, most of the characters lacked depth. The character of Robert Magellan, philanthropist and the multi-billionaire, was definitely not realistically portrayed. After having spent a year looking for his missi...more

I bought the three books of this series because I had to choose several books from a small selection of books for a book club and I didn't see any authors/books I recognized hearing good things about, except this author, Mariah Stewart.

However, I am just starting it and NEED to know something before I continue. Do we ever find out what happened to Robert's missing wife and son in any of the three books? I am hoping for a happy ending of course, which is why I need the spoiler. If it is a unhappy...more

This isn't a mover/shaker book where you walk away from this with a different world view. What it is, is a very interesting, well thought out, well put together mystery-romance that is easy to read and keeps you wanting more.

Mallory Russo is a very intriguing character and through the book, you don't learn to much about her past but you do learn more about her immediate past and why she is no longer a cop. It gives you a decent picture of the here-and-now with room to explore the backstory.

Book 1 in the Mercy Street Foundation series

This romantic suspense novel is a refreshing interlude, a relief for those who have been reading more adrenaline based mysteries, Mariah Stewart style is lower keyed . This mystery is basic and not complicated to follow, it focuses mainly on homicides and missing person investigations and provides interesting moments that will grab you immediately, unfortunately it is somewhat predictable.

The novel juggles three threads at the same time and intertwin...more

I really enjoyed this book. It was the first of Mariah Stewart's and will not be my last.
Mercy Street is a great lead in book to the Mercy Street Foundation Series. While the mystery is pretty well wrapped up, there is just enough left dangling that you will want to run out and snatch up the next book in the series!
Mallory, the female lead, is a strong character. I immediately liked her. Charlie, the male lead, is completely lovable. There is chemistry between the two of them, but the focus of t...more

Mercy Street, by Mariah Stewart, Narrated by Joyce Bean, produced by Brilliance Audio and downloaded from audible.com.

The publisher’s note, unusually thorough and accurate, will be put here to explain the book. It seems to begin a new series for Mariah Stewart, the author of the four “Truth” books: “Cold Truth, Hard Truth,” etc. We’re introduced to a female ex-cop and the man replacing her on the force who team up to solve a crime.

Publisher’s note:
On a balmy spring evening, four high-school seni...more

Every day people go missing - sometimes voluntarily, sometimes not. If you’re lucky, they’re found and you don’t have to spend the rest of your life wondering if they’re still out there somewhere, if they need your help and what you can do to get them back.

Robert Magellan wasn’t lucky. 15 months ago his wife and son disappeared on their way home from a baby-shower. Nobody has seen or heard from them since. To anybody this would be a tragedy, but for Robert it’s enough to drive him half insane. H...more

Ex-cop Mallory Russo starts searching for two missing teens with new cop, Charlie Wanamaker. As they get close to finding the teens, the action heats up. An insane killer, a sniper, a homeless guy, an absentee father, a few crooked cops and even a priest are all somehow involved in the mystery surrounding the teens disappearance.

The plot of Robert Magellan and his missing wife and infant son set up the background mystery to tie the series books together. I'm intrigued enough as to what happened...more

I find it incredibly likely that what happened to Mallory happens in the real world police force (rumor mongering, sexist comments and harassment). Not because I have a low opinion of the police, but because some people never grow out of the high school mentality and a lot of them are drawn to positions of authority and power. It's very much still a "man's job", which makes it difficult for women to break through that glass ceiling.

To me this is a decent summer beach read - interesting enough to be enjoyable, but eventually pretty forgettable. It actually reminded me of those weekly crime TV shows that have likable main characters and a compelling situation that sounds intriguing but ultimately unwinds with too little complexity or complications. Like I feel when I watch those shows, I was interested to an extent but also realized that it was pretty bland.

This was my first book by Maria Stewart. I thought it had a fairly slow start and nothing to really "hook" me onto the book until I was a good 50 or so pages in. The plot felt a bit generic and, aside from the primary plot, incredibly obvious and predictable. The only thing that had me hooked at all was how the primary plot was going to wrap up. I did give it 3 stars, because it was a nice read and I may pick up the next book to see where it goes.

If it wasn't for the fact that I was going to be stuck in a car for 4 days traveling, I never would have finished this book. It was kinda slow, a little too much discriptions of everything. The author made her 2 main adult characters talk like they were un-intelligent teenagers. They swore at weird times and went over the same info too many times.

This book by Mariah Stewart was a puzzler for me. I liked it but found myself having to put it down and do something else for awhile. It did not totally grab me. The characters were good and well defined and I liked them. The plot seemed to be good but a bit jerky in spots. All in all I did like it.

Quick read ~ 1st in a series. So far there are two other books in this series. I finished this book in a day,
I am starting the next book in the series> Cry Mercy. The books are very light and easy to read. They
are pretty predictable but good if you don't have time to delve into a deeper book. Kind of like
a Danielle Steel book.

Ok story was predictable. I was a little concerned at how easily the PI connects the dots when the police couldn't. I know, the police were suppose to be inept but this was just too blatant. I could see the sniper's identity twenty miles away. Even the love angle was just too easy.

This is a quick, easy, fun mystery book to read. I enjoy a good book like this where I feel like I'm reading for strictly enjoyment. Problem is when the sequels come out I've forgotten the characters! But I always enjoy Mariah Stewart.

This was a little different than the usual mysteries and they give you a portion of the sequel to it which really has me roped into looking for the next book. My first time reading Mariah Stewart but looking forward to more.

Good - would have liked the trilogy if they would have carried over more about the characters from one book to the other. There were some good secondary characters that were hardly mentioned in subsequent books.

This is the first book I have read by Mariah Stewart and is in the series Mercy Street. It kept my interest and I liked the characters. I just started the second one and I am anxious to read it to see how this series unfolds.

I really enjoyed Mariah Stewart's Truth series so I was excited to start this new series. It was a bit of a let down. I didn't connect with any of the characters and found myself struggling to finish it.

This book has a story within a story. I really enjoyed reading it. The characters are great, the romance is believable and the bad guys are really bad. When I can find some time I wil defiently read the rest in this series.

The first in a series that's quite similar in "tone" to the Truth series of hers that I've just finished listening to -- I will definitely be back. Stewart has likable characters in great settings.

This series is so good! I accidently read the third book first (friend borrowed it to me) but was able to follow with no problem and went back to read the other two when I was done.
