When Lady Charity Lancing comes into possession of a book censored by Regency society as indecent, it seems little more than a trivial guilty pleasure. Yet her shameful secret is discovered by an unscrupulous would-be suitor. Under the guise of compassion, Doctor Robert Paterson threatens public exposure if she doesn't marry him. But he will never win her love.

First off, I did not see this book as erotic or a normal read for Blushing Books! But haven't said that, it was a good story. The scandalous part was that the unmarried ladies, Liberty Barrows and Lady Charity Lansing were reading erotica based books that would have been censored by Regency standards. Dr. Robert Paterson having seen what Charity was reading, was willing to expose her unless she was willing to accept his hand in marriage. Her father, upon his death bed, made her promise to marry ...more

This is a very well-written book whose characters have plenty of depth. It’s best to be aware before you read it though that there isn’t much by the way of spanking or BDSM in the story itself, although we do get to read snippets of the racy novel that the ladies of the story are reading. I had a really hard time getting into this book. It sounded wonderful in the blurb. But, I persevered and I believe that this is a good novel. Charity is an heiress waiting to discover love. Michael is less affluent and is the son of Charity’s head gardener. They both feel the instant attraction to each other. The interesting parts of the book are in the dialogue from the books that Charity is reading. Of course, if anyone knew what she was reading, they would be scandalized. Ladies did not read ...more

Overall I liked the story and really loved the dramatic ending. The characters are well rounded and its fun to have a villain to hate. I did feel that the first part of the story dragged a bit and for that reason it took me a while to get into the story. Historic story that really emphasizes how woman were really at the mercy of the men in their lives. I really loved the hero and his own story the best.
